Still no season 3? When the fuck Is Morimi gonna finish the series?
I love uchouten kazoku
>>283243477Hey some of us are still waiting on a season 2
>>283243053Angel Beat's story is more cohesive. From the first episode we are introduced to the mystery of the afterlife, and the MC has to figure out the mystery behind why they're there. They go through a bunch of twists and turns, but that part never changes. And in the end we get a nice feel-good story about a purgatory where children obtain absolution.Charlotte is more about the personal journey of MC. Most of the events that happen are retroactively erased. It was interesting to see MC turn from a selfish narcissist into an altruistic, yet edgy, Messiah, but also I wasn't really convinced that the powers were a bad thing, because they also showed a healer girl using her powers for good. It just gave me a lot of contradictory feelings.
If you don't like mundane slice of life and drama, you aren't a PA Works fan
>>283233040Charlotte was better than Angel Beats.
I haven't watched a lot of P.A. Works shows, but they did a good job with the Mikadono adaptation so they're alright in my bookshame the show flopped

>>283244439Yeah, I can't say I finished it but I remember being very put off by how the art looked. And I don't mean the cgi.
>>283244154No you don't.
>>283244547The fugly artstyle was actually the last of its problems. The show got more and more retarded with each episode. By the end, the show's finale was revolving around a new character introduced out of nowhere. Not even Glasslip dared to do something like that
>>283233040The three best P.A. Works anime are Nagi no Asukara, Hanasaku Iroha, and Shirobako. If you disagree, you're wrong.
I remember when Angel Beats was all the rage. PA was on par with Kyoani back then
>>283244907Key still should've stuck with Kyoani. They were made for each other.
>>283243629I wouldn't exactly call meandering from one idea to another speedrunning through tragic backstories until we've reached the episode number where it's time for the finale to be very cohesive (though it is very much like an RPG when you've unlocked the airship and now have to grind hard to be able to touch the final boss). Turkey had this problem too (which I had it in my mind was a PA original but it was actually from those guys who did that not-Lady Snowblood that I didn't hate): the middle sagged with a round-robin "this episode it's time to learn this thing about this character" until they reach a natural stopping point that telegraphs the change in status quo that brings in the finaleCharlotte just has better pacing and did a better job of progressing from each story beat to the next, with the plot being taken in a completely different direction from episode to episode, with each turn contributing to the themes and the development of the main character. Also the problem isn't so much the powers themselves but the effect they have on the users' lives, between all the nefarious forces who seek to exploit them, and just what their immature adolescent minds would choose to do with such power, all conspiring to hinder their ability to enjoy their youth to the fullest, which if you've seen anime before you know is the most important thing in Japanese society next to family honor and staying at work until you miss the last bus and have to stay the night with senpai
>>283245362>meandering from one idea to another speedrunning through tragic backstories Are you really going to bring up this up? Every Key story does this. It's part of the formula. And it works. This is such an old argument and shows you're not a fan of Key.
>>283233040Buddy Daddies was alright despite having the gayest title in all of anime.
>>283245399if you're talking about attempted linear adaptations of KEY video games that have multiple routes and multiple paths for each route and even hybrid routes where multiple characters interact together in unique ways that you wouldn't see if you were following a walkthrough, then yeah, VN adaptations only succeed in spite of their fundamental structural flaws and originals can be far superior when paced correctly
>>283238033Sakuna because her game is great.
>>283238033>Play on AMW stage>Get backstabbed out of nowhere by mob woopy loopy.
>>283244833>best P.A. Works anime>Hanasaku Iroha
>>283246149No, I'm talking about the Key formula.>funny light-hearted comedy with fantasy elements>heavy themes on family and friendship>hit fast and hard with cruel reality and tragedy>Suddenly, foreshadowed KEY magic saves the dayCharlotte is not an exception to this either.
>>283246452Then that's not what I'm talking about, obviously. Angel Beats had its big midpoint twist at episode 3 and has its third-act backstory reveal at its midpoint, it's just poorly balanced in a fundamental way
>>283246450Second best actually. If you disagree, you're wrong. Simple as.
>>283245362>speedrunning through tragic backstories until we've reached the episode number where it's time for the finale to be very cohesiveNTA but I think that format works quite well for a 12 episode show. Maebashi Witches did this well too, and I found it worked because there was a big emotional payoff behind it. It worked especially well because the cast was developed enough to make that payoff feel earned. The ideal format for me would be something more dynamic and flexible, like what you see in MyGO, Odd Taxi, or Tari Tari. But that kind of storytelling usually comes at the cost of only focusing on two or three characters instead of expanding on everyone.
One of the few shows I still haven't watched from them is Glasslip. Does it deserve the reputation it has? I liked True Tears a lot and that has the same director + studio combo.
They were great in that same late 2000's-early 2010's period that SHAFT and Kyoani was dominating. Those 3 studios are very symbolic of that time period
>>283246694Charlotte completed MC's entire journey collecting powers in a singular episode. It was one of the most rushed endings I can recall off the top of my head.Angel Beats MC had the consistent drive to help others throughout the entire show. The ending where he finds out he was able to make a difference before he died was just icing on the cake. It was much, much better.

>>283246895GIWTWM
>>283239157>Angel Beats>solid endingYou're calling that rush job of an ending solid?
>>283238033double Saten
If you think either Angel Beats or Charlotte was good, you are mentally disabled and your opinions should be disregarded.
Now, now, instead of arguing about rushed endings, let’s talk about how great Tari Tari was. The ending wasn’t rushed, and the side characters like the teacher who had a crush on the MC’s mom got some nice character growth. The older lady yuri aspect of the show is just the icing on top.
Top 5 is Maid Wars, Shirobako, Tari Tari, Uma and Hanairo
PA Works needs to crack the whip on Morimi to make him finish the 3rd Uchouten Kazoku novel so we can finally get the 3rd season.
>>283246064Buddy Daddies is the best PA hands down.
>>283246881it wasn't a journey collecting powers, it was the culmination of his character arc throughout the series, the gauntlet through which he can experience ego death and redeem himself. It didn't need to be longer than it was, and this is where Angel Beats slipped up by addressing each character like routes in a VN when there was entirely not enough runtime for that.
>>283247251>Angel Beats slipped up by addressing each character like routes in a VN when there was entirely not enough runtime for thatIt's called tying up loose ends. Which is another thing Charlotte failed at. Yusa/Misa and the other side characters barely have a role. Nao rejects MC's confession. We can't even begin to guess what will happen next.If you just want a story with an OP MC and stakes on a global scale, then Rewrite was much better.
>>283238033In a fight? Isn't the answer Sakuna by a wide margin? She's a literal goddess, and not just any goddess but the daughter of their version of Susanoo, the mightiest of all the gods in the Japanese pantheon. If it's choosing a character, Ohana is the best character PA Works ever made.
>>283233105You were in the threads? They were awesome.
>>283247377The side characters are at the side where they belong after they've served their purpose in the story, still there to provide insight or levity but not actively drag away from the momentum of the plot in later acts. Yusa and Misa had their arc early in the story instead of three quarters of the way in, and the side plot where Nao films Yusa's next music video is more than enough to remind us that she still exists.

>>283233105Appare was fun, but it lacked something to make it great. I, for one, admire the courage of this kind of originals. I guess they dedicated too much time to other aspects, but I member the MC needed more fleshing in its story. I mean, I wanted to root for this guy, but if I remember correctly, whe was almost an autistic guy with laser focus on the cars, but other than that, I dont recall any values or motivations.
>>283239512>CharlotteI kinda remember that one, because the ending was shit tier, MC obtains the capability of steal, or erase (i dont member well) other's skills. In the end, he go on a world tour erasing / stealing other people's skills so no one can abuse them anymore, all in the last episode.I mean this is tank thicc plot armor. Imagine liviong in a world with some type of skills that provides some people with positions of influence / power, and suddenly people start losing those skills left and right, and nobody bats an eye. MMMHMM right.
>>283253084I think they did a pretty strong job of it with the single cour they had. There's not a whole lot of complexity but they lean in to the parts that work really well and give just enough attention for everyone to really shine. Even the stuck up suit has his big FUCK IT IM GETTING FIRED ANYWAYS moment. It's endearing. >I dont recall any values or motivations.I'd give it another go maybe. Because they were there. The conflict with the big villain very much was about him trying to use fear to stamp out everyone else's advancement because human ingenuity was a threat to his power. That's the big core. At least I think anyways. It's hardly complicated but it's done well.
>>283232917>nearly every scene shown in the video is about the characters eatingIt makes so much sense they did HibiMeshi. It is the culmination of their 25 years as a studio.

Kuromukuro is still their best work. Shame we never got a sequel. Never expected a sol studio to give such a fun mecha and a good sci-fi story.
>>283254477>hibimeshihow the fuck does that make sense? it a way inferior product, compared to ShiroBako and SakuraQuest. At least in those two were likable dorks. In Huibimeshi they are all kinda average, and the autistic gray hair that was supposed to be the interesting addition to the group were mogged so hard by the cinema club girl of MONO that is not even funny.
>>283257740>hibihater can't get a single sentence correct amidst the ESL rage
I am amused that they still went bankrupted. There are some shows that I liked, I won't deny that, but things like Akiba Meido and Paripi Koumei don't see like a financial success, especially when you have things like Fairy Gone and Glasslip in your catalog.
>>283257964Akiba Maid war and Paripi Koumei not being financially successful is a blatant indicator of the shit taste of the average anime viewer.>>283257837You cant defend that bland turd that Hibimeshi was. Shirobako's dorks were way better, like the autistic animator girl that could not talk and needed one of the other animators to translate for her. By comparison, the gray autist of hibimeshi is just there, swallowing energy drinks, barely contributing, she just stands there being weird, Shiro and Sakuraquest had better characters, some of the secondaries were more appealing and interesting than some of the main group in Hibimeshi.>>283256185Kuromukuro production values were excellent, but the story lacked something. >>283265477There was just a complete lack of focus and too many dangling threads because too many of the gammas came with them into the second half to not do anything with.
>>283265613Kuromukuro is not okay scifi. It's high school trash that sometimes featured a giant robot and an alien. They ignore the big plot hooks for like 18 episodes but oh let's make sure we give that sociopath with the camera and cosplay slut attention.
>>283265565They should hire Mari Okada again.
>>283265565>good romance
Nagi no Asukara is my favorite. I still miss it
>>283259758The first half of aquatope was good. It brought the theme of broken dreams. The Aquarium girl wanted to save by any means possible her grandfather aquarium, but despite her best efforts it had to close. Tell me about series that touches realism like that (those exist, but are just a few), any other anime would get "the power of friendship" and "the miracles of working together" in action to make her save the day. S2 was about their life in a big ass aquarium, and was kinda interesting, but they traded the conflict of a dying aquarium for the struggles of my first job. Also the redeeming acr of the MC took too long. I dunno, those were interesting themes, but the execution of S2 lacked the excitement of S1.
>>283266445Aquatope's first half was good, but it was the typical PA Works working girls plot. The premise was taken from HanaIro, just set it in an aquarium instead of a ryokan. They basically split Ohana's role into the two main girls, first with Fuuka running away from home, learning the ropes of the new job, and supporting her new friends, and Kukuru having a personal connection to the place, wanting to save it no matter what, but ultimately failing. They tackle different themes overall, but the coming of age aspect is similar.

A lot of people on 2ch were confused about the target audience and think it would’ve been better if Rise was closer in age to Alice because her whole job hunting prospect didn’t fit the childish whimsy of Wonderland. Personally, from the online manga they published, I think it worked fine as an older, more cautious girl viewing Wonderland through as someone who read the story works well as a juxtaposition to Alice, who is a rambunctiously adorable little shit. Regardless, the manga is extremely cute and look forward to watching the film when it comes out on video.
