Subs are literally just as bad as dubs because they make anime feel clunky to watch. You're constantly dipping your gaze to the lower third of the screen, and missing most of the voice direction. It takes less time to read what's being spoken so you get impatient. It also puts an unnecessary emphasis on dialogue over action, music and so on. Subs are still ultimately a crutch and it'd be better to not have to rely on them at all.
