I'm coping but I still want Black Beard to be the final villain of one piece even if all the narrative importance is on Imu now. I can't really reason very well how he could be the final villain since it's clear that Imu will be defeated after Luffy finds the one piece and becomes pirate king. If Luffy becomes pirate king then Black beard has lost already so it seems hopeless. I do think that people often times discredit Black Beard because Imu is the big tyrant who's been ruling for 800 years and has caused indirectly a lot of the worlds problems so his defeat is much more monumental. I think however that while the revolution is important, what's often forgotten about is the just as important battle afterwards that decides what the post revolution will look like. Blackbeard here would represent a alternative post Imu society based on his views that will battle with Luffy's and revs dreams of a post Imu world. The battle would be to decide the future of the one piece world and I think that has great narrative weight. I'm not using power scaling arguments because oda can easily justify any character being stronger if he so desires.
