Just read the new chapter. I think one thing that can be definitely said for sure after the debacle of arcs 7, 8, and everything in 9 post chapter 14 is that Re:Zero does not work without Subaru. He is the superglue that holds the narrative together, the primary subject of the themes the series is built on, the barrier that keeps the setting from falling into a pit of mediocre shonen and plot contrivance. Tappei has repeatedly proven himself unable to write convincing stakes without Subaru's presence. Re:Zero was unique in it's previous arcs because nearly everything that could be a threat was a threat and was given respect as such, with even stuff like some random mabeast or a group of mook cultists or something along those lines managing to shockingly and unceremoniously kill off characters. Things felt real, threats felt real, and you got the sense only Subaru's power is keeping the cast alive. But without him? Characters wade through armies, opponents, traps, and forces that would have slain them a hundred times over were Subaru present, either accruing no injuries at all or just walking off wounds that should have torn them apart multiple times over, with the worst case scenario being some random fakeout death because Tappei wants us to believe there are stakes but cannot possibly bring himself to let go of his toys. They magically gain new powerups and abilities with no suffering or failure to show for it (looking at you Petra), and overall are just very jarring compared to previous arcs.Subaru has always served as a superglue that helps introduce other characters to each other and gold groups and alliances together, from most of the Emilia camp being there for him to him creating the Crusch-Emilia-Ana alliance in Arc 3. Without him interactions and dynamics often seem to fall flat, characters are sometimes forced into unnatural feeling archetypes to progress the plot (again, Petra), and new characters are introduced as if we should know and care for them.

Arc 1 has Subaru's love for Emilia, Arcs 2-3 had Subaru's love for Emilia and Rem, Rem's love for Subaru, Pete's for Satella, 4 had Subaru-Emilia/Rem, Satella-Subaru, etc etc. This web of obsession is entirely absent in later arcs except for some literal who that gets resurrected at one point that Yoruna loves or something. I guess the secondary theme of memories that has been repeating in most arcs showed up a bit with Subaru losing some memory as a child and Alcanica, so well done there I guess Tappei?There didn't even seem to be many tangible, arc-specific secondary themes with any real meaning to them. Arc 3 really hammered in understanding one's own limitations and dependening on others, what did Arc 7 have to say? Arc 6 strongly explored trust, asked exactly who Subaru was and what he had become since entering the new world, asked how important memories were in creating the Self, and what one became when they were stripped away - what did Arc 8 want to tell us? That Garfiel punching a dragon would be kinda cool?I don't know, and this is all pretty disjointed, but I think the point stands decently well. Whenever Subaru is absent - because he's a child, offscreen, or in Al's butthole - nothing seems to function anymore, and I really hope Tappei learns from this in later arcs.
