I don't get it. Why is this so popular?
Show teases an interesting story only to ignore it for long periods with 'bounty of the week' episodes which are hit or miss. I love the cast, but it feels like we barely scratched the surface.

Seeing people get filtered by episodic storytelling will never fail to make me laugh.
>>
>>283255164
Eh, I get it I guess. It's just way more of a standard for a show to have an overarching story between episodes. Not that they don't do episodic shows anymore, of course they do but I would figure a lot of kids here grew up in the era when TV-shows began to make their shows less episodic in storytelling.
>>
>>283255164
there isn't anything to get filtered over. I grew up on Pokemon, Beyblade and sitcoms etc, I have nothing against episodic storytelling.

Ignoring OP because he's a fag, it's interesting how the rise of streaming and content binging has made linear, serializations so total in viewers' minds. It's not even just disliking self-contained episodes as filler; it's as if their minds cannot even comprehend non-linear narratives.

Compare it to the necessities of TV syndication, where self-contained episode narratives were the norm, since you never knew when a prospective watcher was going to jump in.

Zoomer cannot comprehend the art of episodic storytelling. It's much harder to craft an interesting, memorable, well rounded, satisfying plot in 20 minutes than yet another serialized Netflix slop storyline that drags you along for hours of cliché and filler just to justify its runtime.

>It's just way more of a standard for a show to have an overarching story between episodes
Maybe that's the expectation now.
But that has nothing to do with Cowboy Bebop.
It's the difference between a novel and a collection of short stories.
You want everything to be a novel, where every episode is a chapter of the full story.
When tv used to be short stories.

The "interesting story" is the worst part of the show, it could have been a solid 9/10 but the terrible ending retroactively ruins the great episodes

I wish they showed at least some of their background. Just an episode or even an extended flashback of Vicious and Spike fighting side by side, the one where he gets ambushed and 'dies' the first time or Injured Spike getting healed by Julia.

Apples and Oranges
Of course Lupin and co. mog the Bebop crew big time
But Bebop's appeal for me isn't even the characters
It's what happens around them and the world around them; the concept of a future that is essentially the wild west that somehow co-exists with advanced technology
Bebop's melancholical view of the future is a gritty but ultimately comforting one because it's based on Watanabe's love for 20th Century European/American Cinema and Music(you are wrong about the non-Anglo European part too since some of the episodes are literally based on French New Wave Cinema), so in that sense Bebop is an ultimate sort of tribute to the pop culture of 20th century(particularly the 1920s to the 1960s/70s) and that includes Asian pop culture like Bruce Lee too + the guy on whom Spike's character design was based on was Japanese actor Yusaku Matsuda(who also was featured on a Hollywood movie before he died young) let's not forget that and I think that's what most people find unique and appealing about Bebop

Bebop is not just an anime, it's a tribute to a different time period
In a sense it's the anti-Blade Runner
Whereas Blade Runner warns us how bad the future will be; Bebop instead at comforting us(and I guess Watanabe) by throwing a blanket at us by taking us into a nostalgic vision of the future where the future somehow resembles the past

>Watanabe even admitted that Spike was based off of Lupin.
Bullshit. He said he was based on Yusaku Matsuda.
Vicious was obviously inspired by Goemon but that's a different thing.
And obviously Bebop was inspired by Lupin the 3rd but it's something very different nonetheless.

Lupin at his cuckiest is never such a simp like Spike.
And at his Chaddest he is literally a criminal rapist in the original manga but Miyazaki kiddified it for TV.

It's funny to think that the guns in Bebop are guns that would be almost 100 years old in terms of their designs by 2071
>>
>>283301192
Shit figure
His hair looks like Deku's and her hair looks too saturated
>>
>>283301306
Tbf do you think we will have more advanced guns than the ones in Bebop in 2071?
With how slow tech is evolving I doubt we'll have something like Star Wars-style Blasters in 2071
>>
>>283301192
Stunning.
>>
>>283301507
Anon, if the 1911 is still relevant after 110+ years
Believe me, it'll be 2071 and the 92FS, Glock 17, and the S&W revolvers will still be used and made
>>
>>283301639
Let's be honest here; the difference between a Blaster and a conventional handgun is much bigger than the one between the 1911 and and the Jericho

If Blasters ever happen then the traditional handgun will go the way of the sword

This is 4chan, retard. No one here will even find consensus on literally anything.

I highly doubt we'll see the technology unless we run into an IRL Covenant

Spike and Julia "simped" for each other equally. Back in the day we called it being in love.

>when someone says Cowboy Bebop is their favorite anime it raises a lot of red flags.
Oh, really? Someone saying that a space western anime that was widely beloved and aired on mainstream networks is their favourite is "a red flag." It's only the second anime most people watch after Pokemon (Akira is the third.) What weirdos those people must be.
Pro tip: If someone's asking for your favourite anime, they're an otaku, and telling an Otaku you liked cowboy bebop is like telling a sci-fi nerd you liked star wars. Indicative of having surface-level experience with the medium, maybe, but hardly a red flag in the same way telling someone you're a lolicon would be.
>>
Cowboy Bebop was the first "anime" I actually completely watched. I remember waking up to the episode parodying Heaven's Gate on Adult Swim early in the morning, it still sits in the back of my head.
It's amazing and it's dub is one of the few examples where it's better than the original.
>>
>>283304356
this is why we can't discuss cowboy bebop on /a/ and why faggots like the OP exists
because of retards like yourself who are living stereotypes and cliches
the dub is not better than the original, fucking kill yourself you stupid nigger
>>
>>283301239
I think Spike is really just an amalgamation of guys Watanabe thought was cool and that includes Lupin and Yusaku Matsuda.

Also, now is as good a time as any to mention that the first five episodes of Tantei Monogatari are fansubbed. It's a really good show, no longer Japanese boomers were obsessed with it.
>>
>>283301306
it's retrofuturism.
>>
The main plot is the worst part of Bebop. The episodic stories are vastly superior.
>>
>>283292065
Why do zoomers have the most retarded self-victimized takes? Cowboy bebop has been called overrated for years.
>>
>>283289962
Like other anon said, first episode should be here, if only for their fight/chase scene with NY Rush playing. Shit list.
>>
>>283307345
It's based on the rating each episode got. If you're mad, go rate episode one higher.

Anon, I can think it's bullshit without wanting to go down that rabbit hole. People have shit taste; end of.

I thought it was a pretty fun parody of Alien. Something silly to go before Jupiter Jazz.
>>
>>283289962
Who tf uses imbd to rate anime?
>>
>>283308404
It's not even good for rating normalfag shows anymore.
>>
Its popular thanks to american normies that dont like anime
>>

But nothing about CB is memorable. 20 minutes of boring dialogue and some fight scenes at the end, then the main guy gets some coochie but she dies and he decides to commit suicide, that's it. No idea why is it held in such high regard to this day.

if you want the awesome epicsauce backstory flashback episode of Spike Spiegel (where he's shown to be quite... Fearless haha ;) ) you can watch the incredible live-action remake that delves right into it, fixing the anime's glaring omission! among other things... hehe ;)

The bounty of the week episodes are good, but the Julia episodes are my favorite.

Yeah. He asked for Yamadera to sound like Lupin at certain moments when voicing Spike.

they would be on content alone, but then they all end with the same "lol we're broke again" gag which ruins it all.
