Eren was always a crybaby, volatile and STUPID protagonist that is his character that's how he behaves until the Marley arc I still think SnK fans are profoundly autistic for actually buying him as Hitler, the ending made so much sense. He just wanted to. Knowing what's beyond the ocean, gaining insight into the future was INFOHAZARD he just wanted to be free of all of it. Says it so clearly too, he wanted things to go back to how they were before they knew about the outside world.

To me it's one of the biggest indicators of a major change in the overall storyline, because introducing a character like Ymir who not only knows the truth but also discovers the identity of the traitors before anyone else does had to have been more significant originally, but instead she just inexplicably bows out of the story without telling anyone, not even her best friend what's going on, and gives her titan back to Marley so it can be assigned to a different character.It's very bizarre. Erwin's obsessive motivation is to discover the truth behind the titans and what's going on outside walls and part of his speculation is that there are other humans living out there. What he's actually asking Eren here is "why would humans, not titans, go against us like this? Why would a human do this?". And later we find out that is indeed humans that are behind their titan threat.The story brings it up again later when Eren asks Ymir in front of Reiner and Bertholdt "who is the real enemy!?" Where Eren is the only one not in the know unlike everyone else around him that came from outside the island.Once we find out the truth and about Marley at the end of season three, the season four opening references this again with the lyric "YOU. There are a lot of things about early Shingeki that doesn't gel with the rest of the series. Like Eren having such an extreme difficulty with his powers when literally everyone else took to it like a fish to water.
