steins gate's second half is so... interesting to me. the first half is a time travel thriller building up the suspense of the main threat. then the second half is a reverse omnibus harem where the main character goes around breaking women's hearts. 'reverse', because getting the girl and having a happy ending is the bad ending. okabe going back in time is no different than reloading a save in a dating sim because you made a bad decision. and when you look at the big picture, SERN isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. they're only a vehicle to get to the 2nd half of the story where you're playing a dating sim. i keep asking myself if this was the plan from the start, or just a result of circumstance. it's a weird mix of concepts, but the time travel is the only way to make it work.

But for years, some redditfag kept spreading a completely wrong theory, making people think the story had major inconsistencies. One of the devs even mentioned in an interview that when Okabe returns in the time machine at the end, the Reading Steiner activates at some point during entry into the S;G worldline. That’s canon. But this fag insisted for over a decade that it didn’t happen, and because of that nonsense, people started calling the ending “flawed” when it actually wasn’t. He basically polluted the entire fanbase’s understanding of the story.
