Finally finished this a few seconds ago.I thought it was a decent enough ending despite it's flaws. Why did people hate the end again? Is it because we don't see Deku and Ochaco end up together?
>>283330715I think that's mostly just the meme answer It's because it's unsatisfying and feels like Deku didn't have a proper resolution, isn't it?
Because to the very end Deku remained a passive bitch who waits for people to hand him his dreams on a silver platter instead of actively fighting for them, or at the very least making SOME effort to further them.

>>283330715Chapter 1: story about how I became the number one heroFinal chapter: that actually didn't happen but we still had the battle shonen story devices for it to happen.

Love WON The ending itself was fine, people were just expecting the "the story of how I became the greatest hero" quote to be everything AFTER he defeats the incarnation of evil and not the fact he kept Quirk Satan from conquering the world by offering up his dream of heroism. I blame self-inserters
>>283331672it would have been fine if the final fight was his entire "the greatest hero" moment, but the fact that the world doesn't care at all about him after that shows he isn't the greatest.
>>283331843Even Stain could tell you that real heroism isn't about who sees you do good, it's about the good you did. Midoriya knows he did a great job, even if his academics, college pathway, profession, social life, relationships, financial standing, and mental state all point in a completely opposite direction!
>>283330715Dunno about the others. But for me the deal breaker is how deku never worked hard in the end to be an hero again. All he got was the super suit gifted to him “because he was a good boy and nu-society is about helping each others”…which may be a good message on paper but the execution was laughable.Deku lost all his agency he could get from losing his powers. He could’ve worked hard an be a C tier hero but an happy one always ready to help by using his super resilient body and flew support gears… if hori wanted so much iron deku, heck have him working at the suit with Mei and Melissa since the beginning instead and showing he is still following his dream regardless of his situation and so the determination and growth of his character.Even him being a teacher is very very underwhelming, since the guy not once wanted to do that nor developed in realizing he wanted to be a teacher because that was the meaning to be a true hero (just like firefighters, medica, police etc…).There isn’t a single teaching scene with him too, all he get is being kind and happy with sad kids and nothing else..like at this point onescreen he should be better suited to be a psychologist instead…It was so bad Hori had to damage control it with the epilogue, with deku starring at the camera and saying a very on the nose “OHDY SURE I LOVE BEING A TEACHER,I WILL ALWAYS STAY A TEACHER FIRST EVEN NOW THAT I GOT THE SUIT”.It was just very very lame, and I’m purposely glossing over all the problems and bullshits i have with the 7 quirks and the whole final arc…
>>283330715Its because it was a shit ending>Deku loses his power>Cries and mopes around>Oh hey someones going to hand me super powers for free while I cried and did nothing to get them myselfWhats the moral of the story?Quit on your dreams if they get hard?Dont try in case someone hands you free shit?Literally just had to have him come to terms with losing his shit and deciding to be a hero without powers as a teacher instead of being a mopey faggot.Or say through hard work hes making it as a hero without powers, or just literally he got the suit himself through his own hard work and research.
>>283331672>>283330768>remember guys, any time someone is angry and express criticism toward a badly written story…>ALWAYS SAY THAT THESE ARE DREAM FULFILLING INCELS!>it will deflect any poignant criticism because of LE HECKING INCELS ARE ALWAYS LE WRONG
>>283330715Gee I dunno maybe because this guy went from the strongest hero loved by all to a disgruntled school teacher who gets ghosted by his friends and crush for 8 fucking years, and most people don't even recognize him as the hero that saved the world. He gave up all his power just to make a statement to an almost dead psychopath and thereby killing his own genetic lottery ticket he didn't earn. His school crush ignored the shit out of him until his rival bought him a pity Ironman suit undermining the hero message altogether. Need I go on?

>>283332530It doesn't help that the teachers in the manga are mostly dogshit and absent when it really counts. Which is needed for the plot to go how it did, but that may mean the plot was simply dogshit. One of the most ridiculous ongoing facets of the story really is how everything falls on these highschool freshmen and no one else ever. The most you ever see of UA's teaching style is just throwing them in to scenarios, and if they can't handle it there's the threat of demotion to the other classes. UA really feels like a school that just sucks the soul of success out of shining stars to claim the deed for itself like that. We're already set up for being a teacher to be the worst possible outcome for a former hero. And we've seen MULITPLE TIMES how injured heroes who can't perform don't even get any kind of retirement plan. You just get shit on, forgotten, and probably won't even get a prosthetic to help you despite those existing. THE ENTIRE TONE OF THE STORY IS THAT HAVING A QUIRK IS REQUIRED TO HAVE 'INDIVIDUALITY'. SINCE THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT THOSE ARE. If you don't have one, you aren't an individual. Losing his quirk is like saying he's no longer human. No longer a person at all. And from how he was quickly forgotten till he got the suit, that's exactly what happened.

Let's compare it to Naruto ending>Naruto loses kurama and all his chakra powers after fighting sasuke>everyone else moves on, becaming jounin and eventually hokage>they're too busy to even meet up with Naruto from time to time>8 years later, Naruto is teaching in the ninja preschool>nobody married anyone, no children from the main cast>people don't remember who Naruto is or what he did>suddenly, Sasuke comes back and hands him ninja tools (like the ones in early Boruto) so he can play ninja with others again

It's pretty telling when the majority of complaints hinge on people making shit up. Like him never working for his powers despite that literally not being the case, All Might forced him into intense training to even get one for all in the first place, and then after that had to have multiple training arcs through the rest of the story.Or people claiming no one remembered or cared about his achievements when he had statues commemorating him saving the world, and students recognized him as Deku the hero, and a bunch of people remembered and cared about him enough to chip in for the super suit. Or people saying he gave up on hero work after losing his powers despite teaching at the hero school teaching the hero course that only heroes teach. No one was trying to say All Might or Eraser Head gave up on being heroes because they were primarily teaching at UA.People are too proud to admit that their kneejerk reaction against this middle of the road, perfectly serviceable if not bland ending was based on faulty information and bias so instead are just doubling down.

>>283330715The original ending released was the chapter with Deku talking with that one kid from the cover so Deku did looks like a pathetic cuck who had been forgotten by his high school "friends" he still continuously stalked, except for Bakugo who felt sorry for him and bought him a suit, and that he only settled to become a teacher because he lost his powers and with that his ability to fulfill his actual dream. The epilogue chapter with Ochunko thirsting for Deku and Deku showing he actually liked being a teacher came months later

First MHA Issue>Midoriya: "This is the the story about how I achieved my dream and became the greatest hero of all time."Last MHA Issue>Midoriya: "Actually, I lost all my powers, became a regular teacher, and eight years later pretty much everyone has moved on. I became a foot note in history quickly forgotten. Everyone else became cool heroes and someone else has been #1 for a while. I live alone and don't see any of the old gang at all, they are living my dream."WHY ARE PEOPLE ACTING LIKE THERE WAS SOME SORT OF BAIT AND SWITCH!?
>>283330808>still doing the fast food worker jokedo yall not like midorya being a teacher, its not cool or something?
>>283334696>>283335074Objectively Deku saved the world from a 200+ year old quirk vampire brocon with Chuunibyou tendencies from completing his world domination plan that consisted of body swapping with a league of legends player and without losing any of his friends, his mentors, or his loved ones and only at the cost of powers that weren't his. Just because he had to sacrifice something of his own (like he ALWAYS does) to do so doesn't mean he failed that. He still is out there making a difference and hell, now he has a hero suit to be a hero again and a girlfriend.
>>283330715Deku literally got cucked out of everything. The writer clearly hates Deku with how he was treated in the epilogue as well as in the side stories.
>>283335192>Work as an educator for one of the most prestigious private schools in your entire country that fuels one of the most lucrative and publicly loved industries in the country/world>This is somehow a dead end jobUraraka definitely rode more dicks than Shoji could make arms, but his job is the opposite of dead end
>>283335134That still doesn't make him 1% of the hero All Might is, who did 99% of the job to defeat AfO and Deku just needed to push him out by handing out the power that he was giving in a silver platter. And of course the fact he was actually the symbol of heroism that made villains shiver at his sight while Deku is a nobody.
>>283335235Deku wants to be a hero. He got cucked out of that for 8 years.
>>283335134Saving the world makes him objectively a hero sure but it doesn’t objectively fulfill the story establishing goal at the beginning of the show. You understand the difference right? Also no the story doesn’t end with him becoming a hero again. That’s how his part time hobby since he established his main goal is to teach. The ultimate hero doesn’t even want to be the hero anymore. He thinks teaching kids (something anyone can do) is more important than saving lives (something few people can do)
>>283330715Deku is just a self insert for Gen Z readers that's why everyone feels repulsed by himHe's the kind of guy who would go "My girlfriend cheated on me... But hey! At least the other guy and my girl are happy!"
>>283335134The issue is that he was shown being mistreated, lonely and sad as a teacher so he was clearly not really content with this outcome, and most of his friends, except for Bakugo (who is also not really seeing him, just feeling guilty for him and seemingly avoiding him), and society as a whole had seemingly forgotten him despite his supposed sacrifice and legendary deed. There is a way in which it could have been played as a happy ending but it wasnt done that way.And then, heroes in this world are actually not that powerful most of the time, powerless vigilantes exist in the canon, most of Deku's friends would be super wealthy, he saved the lives of most of the top heroes, he is friends with at least two superhero gear designers eho have gifted him shit for free, and the world wasnt destroyed because of him so people accross Japan and the world would happily send him donations for a supersuit if he asked. But he never did. He just settled being pathetic for years until a supersuit and a gf fell on him. The story would have been just fine if he was a support hero in Ochunko's hero agency using Support Gear to scrap by, barely staying in the Top 100 due to past deeds, and being a teacher on the side but feeling like the greatest hero. But he just quit instead.Plus, AfO and the whole final arc was honestly lame. Shiggy was a better villain and the constant ENTER moments defused all tension every other chapter.

>>283334891You acting like he knew what OFA was from the jump and was waiting to be handed it before he even knew All Might was a fucking cripple?
>People complaining about Deku not being labled 1. >>283333065Bro should stop posting retarded instagram memes and leave this site
>>283335261All Might's way was actively shown to have negative contexts. People being complacent and unwilling to act because "Oh, a hero or All Might can take care of it", constantly having to be on the clock to your own detriment because you have chronic hero syndrome and the world would literally fucking fall apart if you aren't running around stopping crime fucking every five minutes. Villains literally making even more moves once you're out of the picture because the big meatwall is fucking retired. The status of number one hero being so fucking vital to society after All Might that literally no one can measure up because All Might was a FUCKING LUNATIC who gave up his entire life to be a load-bearing support beam.
Did he actually claim that he wanted to the greatest hero?Because the scan I just checked he just said that he became a 'great hero'.
>>283330715It's the story of how he became the #1 hero, but he didn't. One of the biggest subplots was his mutual love interest in Ochako, but they ghost each other for six years before shaking hands like business partners. He gets handed his powers - again.
>>283337740Shoto is literally like the number two hero by the time of that panel, should we consider him a washed-up nobody because he was listed after his retired father and the guy who fell to like number 15 because he can't deal with paparazzi without screaming like he always does
>>283337790AFO's suppressed vestige within the original AFO quirk resurfaced at Shiggy's weakest point.Kurogiri was actively tweaking the entire time throughout the endgame after waking up that it was like flipping a lightswitch over and over between "Protect Shigaraki" and "Protect my friends" that by the time of the final battle his original personality and his Kurogiri personality basically merged while he was on the verge of total collapse. Enough to bring everyone to the final stage while also making one more bet to get Shigaraki back from AFO. Bakugo seemingly merc'd him so that Deku could reach AFO but at that point, Kurogiri was probably seconds away from death anyway.>>283338059Deku says it's the story about how he became a great/the greatest hero, which he later amends to being the story about how "we all became the greatest heroes". People, of course, stick to the initial statement and how some translations at the time make it sound like he was gunning for the spot of Number One Hero.

Honestly, MHA was a fun romp and at the end of the day, Hori succeeded with his coming-of-age superhero story (Even if it ripped-off that one movie from 2005 with Kurt Russell, especially the climax) with a message about true heroism is helping others and being a good person. The series had it's strengths (Character interactions, worldbuilding, fight scenes with All Might Vs. One For All, Deku Vs. Overhaul, and Deku Vs Shiggy For All were highlights) and it's flaws (You could tell there were times Hori didn't properly think things out IE 7 Quirks despite All Might mentioning that OFA is made up of multiple ones after the Stain fight, the traitor being revealed to be a nothing character right before the final battle, 430's vagueness, proper resolution between Deku and Ochaco's relationship) but still enjoyable for what it was. Also I know about the whole "No Stakes Academia" thing but honestly, Hori did the right things given he actually cared about his characters and giving them at least one moment to shine (Love how Deku's classmates who didn't do anything for most of the time, Sero and the sugar guy were the first to save him before the *almost* EVERYONE IS HERE thing), instead of being something bleak and shock-value oriented like Jujutsu Kaisen (Or stuff by Garth Ennism, Warren Ellis, Mark Millar, or most recent DC animated films).4.5/5

Retards continue defending the ending despite deku getting the suit that way being the lamest way possible. Why he couldn’t just being the gadget hero/teacher with simpler gadgets instead of a super suit? Why he couldn’t take part in the creation of the suit to begin with, showing he still has agency over his dream to be an hero in spite of being quirkless? Why the whole “being a teacher” couldn’t be explored better and have an actual onscreen arc about it during the story rather than a last minute twist from the last chapter and a very on the nose speech ?Explain this for me MHAslurpers, since it is the main reason i dislike the ending rather than the memes
>>283341548Deku wanted to become a teacher. He felt that his dream was fulfilled. He even says a speech very similar to this when Inko didn't want him to enroll back in U.A. He mentions that it was the thought of being able to help Koda that made him feel that he was able to achieve his dream. Not the limelight, not the accolades, it was the feeling that he helped a little boy.He says a similar speech when he meets Eri again after a while during the christmas party/before Endeavor Agency. Her letter thanking him, and knowing that she was doing better was what made him happy. He then teachers her how to work on her quirk. Those are the things that Deku cared about when he was a hero. The idea that he waned to be number 1 was never in his line of sight. And the idea of being given the suit instead of working for it was the point, because Hori wanted to emphasize that giving back to others was important, so he made Bakugo make the suit because he wanted him and his classmates to give back to Deku after everything Deku did for them. I'm not gonna say the ending or the series wasn't without faults, but all of the ideas were there, that's why I didn't have many misgivings when the epilogue came out, compared to how this board reacted.

We can't compare the former pro hero to a damn naturally quirkless middle schooler who got constantly bullied and demeaned up to the end of middle school with his own mother failing to reassure him.
>>283342357>tdldr hori was a bad writer who didnt understand character dynamics outside of their function as strongest and most relevant to their proportionate role in the story. >>283333411The issue is that the hero should have some level of agency and proactiveness. He didn't have to be Arnold but he did have to be something. There needs to be a reason to WANT to root for him despite pity. We root for the little guy who tries to make the team. We root for the poor kid trying to make something of himself. Life being unfair can't be his only character trait. Everything about Deku is frustratingly passive. He doesn't strive to achieve his dream even if it's hopeless. He doesn't have any unique qualities that make him special. He's too meek. too secondary.
>>283337873You missed the point. He didn't beg any one for power but he didn't do anything till someone offered it all the same. The very notion that he needed someone to tell him he could be a hero is a disgusting concept. It's pitiable self insert justification to avoid responsibility. "It's not my fault. Nobody supported me. Life is unfair. Someone tell me I'm good." He didn't want to help people. He didn't want to help the world. He thought he was above small deeds. If he couldn't be number 1 he didn't want to be anything. If he ever wanted to be a hero he could have done so a long time ago.

>>283343251>posts midget with momo and not momo aloneYeah your gay
>>283343773Because he did it after he was promised the power. He did it. Him being young isn't an excuse. That's beyond retarded. He's a fictional character so regardless of age he needs some ideal, some trait that we as the reader can empathize with and being a lazy sad sack isn't one. A lot of heroes get their start very young. It's not a question of he would have succeeded it's the trying that matters.
>>283343879You do realize the ONLY reason he was promised the power was because of him trying to save Bakugo from the sludge asshole right?
>>283344050You do realize that has nothing to do with his entire life prior and his own responsibility of self betterment. One reckless action that made the situation worse because the adults could stand around slack jaw doesn't change his entire character.
>>283330715Ending is just unsatisfying. People focus on Deku, but really nobody really competed their goals except Mirio reaching #1, Shoto escaping his father’s shadow, Kirishima being voted the manliest hero, All Might not being dead. >Bakugo never bothered fixing his rotten attitude so will never be seen as the #1 hero>Uruaka ignored Toga’s real wish of getting with the boy they both loved (until they had to make a bonus chapter to add that part) and just became one of those after school speakers telling kids not to do drugs/villain stuff>Momo, Tsuyu and Ida just fucking abandon everything to be Uruaka’s sidekick. >Ida specifically was so forgotten about that they clearly took his art from the final group shot and awkwardly put it in the panel with the girls to shoehorn him in>Mineta can’t even reach the top 100 because he literally gets fucking cancelled for sliding into DMs>the class mutants just become exploited mouthpieces for the worlds version of a BLM movement >Hawks swears that he’ll change hero society so heroes can get more time off. 1A barely get time to even stop and say hi to each other every now and again, and only get to compare schedules for one meal because Hawks in his infinite wisdom of giving heroes some time off sends 21 heroes to move one boulder off a road>Deku becomes a hero again not because he wants to, but because Bakugo has to beg him to do it and buy all his equipment for himThe character with the best ending is of all people La Brava. He saw with his own eyes that a guy with no combat quirk can still run a hero agency just fine on being a strategist and gadget user alone. Also Bakugo should have been the one retired into teaching to be like Eraser. His heart is literally held together by string, why is he still doing intense work?
>>283344321Deku did no training to do that tho, he's a middle aged adult who never put one day of effort into trying to be anything on his own. Without the best quirk in the world carrying him he is worthless as a man
The story checks all the boxes for a 'good end'.. via technicality. The tone and messaging of the story is weird, though. How things get resolved is weird. The details are weird. The places where the most important parts need detail are missing. Like the author himself doesn't really believe it but knows they can't just say being reduced to quirkless civilian is a shit lot. I could go on a very long rant proving it point by point, but basically not having a quirk makes you not a person in MHA. Any chances to show otherwise are kind of glossed over with Just Trust Me Bro in storytelling form. Not to mention, the way Deku gave up the quirk seems weird and forced. Again, checking the box of>Technically the right thingbut ignoring the context, tone, and details. Then technically letting Deku have a happy end while ignoring all that weird awful middle shit between giving up everything and finally being a human being in the eyes of the story again. Okay yeah technically he gets a super suit. Uh, eventually. 8 years is a long time too, you know. A very long time. Which we just zoom past like none of that part of Deku even matters. And by habit, the story does show those kind of things don't really matter to it. Woops! Tone can be set by repetition and habit in a story to, turns out. And odd shit in the middle. Like how early in the story we had a brewing plotline about hero society literally being wrong for just being Hollywood for capes and needing reform and causing it's own villains. Then it just sort of ignores all that set up and hamfists badly written villains in to place to make the grievances look illegitimate. And part of the original ending before the tacked on chapter that took months to appear. sounds coerced was hero society going back to status quo but doubling down on it. Which is really weird to do with how most of the story even went. But, no, let's all just be glad we have our checklist all checked off. Technically!
Deku's gonna be shit at using the super suit because he never trained to be a hero without the best quirk in the world. Now you expect him to learn to mimic the shitty quirks of all his weak classmates? Fuck no. All Might could because he was a hero before getting a quirk. His classmates trained their whole lives to make their weak quirks useful. Deku can't even change a tire without OFA doing it for him.
>>283330715MHA would have been 100% if instead of deku we followed mirkoalso>goes around the world>is somehow still fucking numero 6bitch atleast she should have gotten number 2 or fucking 1 because she dismantled AFO fuckbuddies networkthank fuck MHA got banned in my cuntry lmao
>>283344160I'm sorry Deku isn't like nearly every other meatheaded shonen protag who had unrealistic amounts of idealism and stubbornness before chapter 1.
>>283344321Nighteye still had a Quirk though. He was still BORN with a Quirk.
>>283344805you're right. Instead all Deku has is greed and vanity and entitledness, and a refusal to do anything to be a hero unless it makes him the Numbah Wan Celebrity in the Celebrity chart.Like fuark at least when Denji from CSM is a selfish piece of shit the story says he is instead of painting this spoiled cunt deku like the beacon of hope to humanity.
>>283344831Melissa Shield wasn't. Knuckleduster lost his god-tier quirk he was born with and never let that get him down. Nighteye's apprentice Bubble Girl had a 100% useless quirk which didn't stop her. Mirio was born with a quirk that all his family tree said was actually harmful to them and he worked since birth to turn into something mid-tier but still not Shiggy or OFA tier. Mineta has sticky grapes on his head, at that point just use a gun. Nagant literally just has a gun.
>>283344849HE DIDN'T WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE.B A K U G O WANTED TO BE NUMBER ONE. B A K U G O WAS THE GREEDY ENTITLED BITCH.
>>283344905Then why didn't he do any heroism or community work before he was handed the best quirk in all the world? All Might did at his age. Deku just wanted celebrity, and as soon as they took away his celebrity-quirk he gave up like the worthless spoiled soiboy he is.
>>283344905THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT BAKUGO IS HOT AS FUCK AND WOULD HAVE BEEN HOTTER AS A WOMAN!
>>283344905>don't do anything before handed inheritance to Number 1>don't do anything after inheritance taken awayHe only wanted to be Number 1.
reminder the sole reason that All Might could go 100% from the start is because he fucking worked out and had muscles. Deku didn't do a day of exercise before All Might forced him to do some light cardio for a few months.
>>283344905
>>283344677I wish to add to this common grievance of Deku not earning anything but more.. coherently. The issue really isn't that Deku was given a quirk. This is a fine trope, and people feeling like they have to make everything in their lives from scratch or it's NOT LEGITIMATE is a bad mentality to allow. However, the story starts sabotaging itself from the moment Deku actually gets the quirk. He keeps having trouble with it for most of the story, and the teacher will only really bitch at him to figure his shit out. Not actually do anything to.. help him figure out how to use it right. He gets complained at. Then every adult is mysteriously missing all the time so he has to Do The Thing Again. He gets bitched out. Then nothing is done to help him actually figure it out. Then everyone is missing again. Then he has to do the thing again. Then he gets bitched out and threatened with further action if he doesn't stop...Deku at the start really isn't much different than the end. He hasn't improved his fighting style much past the one time it came up as like a plot point. Maybe the author got cold feet over 'shoot style'. Using his powers in clever ways, so he doesn't have to destroy himself like Almight, didn't work. All the cool tech he could have been using came too late and then didn't really work anyway. So we're back to Deku blowing his arms up again. Except literally. Which didn't even solve the situation. Except literally a magic girl to wish them back on. This pattern keeps going. Meaningless sacrifices pissing on the moment of meaning you COULD have cause the author decided it just Wasn't Enough for some reason.Deku never really changed or strived to be that Hero promised in a real sense. The story SAID it but never did it. Which the story has a bad habit of for everything. And then we just get.. lmao here's a suit??? Now you can't be mad at me! It's just bad storytelling.
Mirio seriously should've gotten OFA. He deserved it way more and would have been better.>but muh multiple quirks lifespan!First of all, Mirio would gladly sacrifice that. Second of all, the author conveniently retconned that to give Deku O MY 7 QUIRKS.
>>283345048"the story SAID it but never did it"You said it.Also Deku "fixed" all of society and their discrimination against evil quirks like Shiggy's by...uhh...uuuuhhhhhhhhhhh...
>>283345146by punching the Bad Guy with the Bad Quirk to Death with the Best Quirk ever, just like All Might did, which totally stops people relying on All Might like before and stops people thinking of evil quirks as villainous and fixes the corruption of the Hero System that Nagant was complaining about. Didn't you see her say "Sasuga Deku Sama" after he cried and yelled at her to throw another concert and be positive?
>>283344552>I could go on a very long rant proving it point by point, but basically not having a quirk makes you not a person in MHA.It kind of didn't though. Is the problem. Deku had a bit of a bully problem but it's not like he was a social pariah. He was very clearly allowed standard education and outside of going to a specialty school what was he denied for his condition? Nobody was putting up signs that read NO FLATSCANS. Frankly the world itself was very and strangely under explored.
He’s so handsome
>>283345146>>283345195The story reads like statist apologist propaganda, on this note. For all the setup of hero society just being Hollywood For Capes and manufacturing their own villains to fight, and Stain existing as a character at all, it's weird the ending is just doubling down on that SAME HERO SOCIETY everyone was willing to turn against for being a cure worse than the disease. And doing it by ham fisting the worst written villains ever in to place to make the position's grievances look illegitimate. And the last instance of saying it and not doing it. You're not supposed to be a hero for fame, but the ONLY thing the story cares about by it's OWN ACTIONS is the fame.
Deku tries to lecture the kid who grows plates on his head how to use it to be a Number 1 heroThe kid should then reply "How the fuck would YOU know, nepobaby?"then he should ask Mineta who actually can say he selfmade a "throwable hair" quirk into something worthwhile
>>283337500He did, it's what he says at the very end of the first chapter. Wanna know something funny? Newer prints have changed it so it goes in line with the shit ending
>>283344902>and never let that get him downHe did, though. Dude just about gave up.
>>283344805He's not like anything though. That's the problem. He's a black hole of a character. The only thing his character has going for it is being a sad pity party.>>283344849>>283344938Would it have been so hard to do anything that expressed a noble quality to him? You remember Yuuki Yuuna? How the girls had their little Hero Club before the start of the show where they went around doing small volunteer work.
>>283345357i'd support it if they actually went all in on it. Actually had that be the point of the message. "The unenlightened masses cannot make the judgement call".Instead they take the coward's route by trying to say Deku is this progressive who totally changed the status quo by...following the status quo and doing nothing different. Have your cake and eat it too.
>>283345357>>283345410Remember Guys, "Plus Ultra!" means to actually give up on being a hero and just get a teaching job and be out of contact with all your supposed closest friends for 8 years. The true Ultimate Hero settles for the most mundane things in life and gives up on his dream if he loses his free step stool to that goal! Now get out there and get your own Plus Ultra desk jobs to keep the Japanese economy stimulated! Yay copororations!
That kid with the evil quirk at the end is gonna get bullied the FUCK out of his sanity in school, and it's all Deku's fault for televising how evil people with bad quirks are and how they need to be culled by nepobabies handed easy and nice quirks
>>283345048A lot of this makes it very clear why there's a reason most super heroes get their powers unwillingly, either through an accident or some nature of their birth making them outcast in some fashion. There's also the issue of motivation, typically they're driven by some tragedy that fundamentally changes who they are. I can't help but wonder if things might have been better received or worked more if Deku got his powers by accident. Say his attempt to save Bakugo had a grander effect on All Might's losing his abilities and in the process granting deku his. Now we have the story of a quirkless kid thrust to power and his dream but with a level of tragedy as he learns what it really means and how it wasn't what he thought it was. A character who gets what they want isn't really a story. It's an inciting incident.
>>283345291Anon, the story needed literally only one certified quirkless hero for the point not to be valid as a criticism. Deku getting in to UA, or any hero academy, wasn't a question till he got a quirk. This happening to Deku isn't the problem. It happening to everyone is. We even get a former pro who lost his quirk in Vigilantes who is stronger than most quirked heroes.. who is just a vigilante. So it's clearly not a strength issue. Particularly who's powers are genuinely worse than just having a gun in every conceivable way get to be pros. Turns Purple Lad could be a pro and get a pass cause he's marketable, at least. And they'll soft ball him a purse snatcher and film it for some buzz and revenue. Which the story kind of frames as the tier of trouble most pros even deal with. Which the cops should honestly handle stupid stuff like that. Why aren't they? Well for the obvious reason. That's how the glam of hero society is framed to work. It's for the glamour. The fame. Not genuine heroics. And it's even more offensive that Deku gets sucked in to this vortex, despite hints he'd be the one that changed this, and gets crippled for it. Then forgotten in an instant cause he no longer has a marketable quirk. Hell, he only gets his girl in the ending that took MONTHS to tack on, and that's after he gets the super suit. The writer seems genuinely unaware that what they've written doesn't match what they say is happening.
>>283345625why do you need to be certified? That only gives you a spot on the celebrity island, not better morals. Be a vigilante like Knuckleduster or All Might
>>283345608I'm surprised everyone knew Deku has One for All but noone ever tried to hurt him personally. You're telling me you have Shiggy and Toga and all these Joker-types who hate everything about the heroes and none of them ever tried to skin his Mom alive as a personal "fuck you"?
I can't wait to see what happens the first time that super suit gets fucked up. Big man in a suit of armor, take that off what is he?
>>283345771Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropi...oh wait no he isn't lol
>>283345699Oh, so now All Might's a vigilante.
>>283345802All Might was a vigilante at Deku's age, yes. It's how Nana met him.
>>283345784Yeah the thing with tech heroes is that generally speaking they need to be tech savvy. I don't think Deku got an engineering degree in whatever teaching course he went through.
>>283345608>>283345746I get the story didn't make being the next All Might a tragedy, but I would've liked that.
>>283345812No, he was a student who was going to try fighting thugs with a stick. He never did any notable vigilantism
>>283333292>only 50Those are rookie numbers for a whore like her.
>>283345862he was doing this to all the roving bands of criminals that were around. Nana didn't find him attempting his first time, it was his ongoing effort to make a difference

>>283333327would be funny if that was actually his Dad.

>>283345881after Hori's next manga flops.
so now that Deku threw a concert and onepunched Shiggy, will families stop doing quirk marriages and abusing their kids like Endeavor to get to the top of the hero rank leaderboard? I'm told Deku somehow solved this.
>>283345859It shouldn't be constantly miserable. There's plus sides to being a super hero but just having some pathos would really add a lot of weight to things. And It's one thing to not feel obligated to follow conventions but you really need to actually pay off with something else because it becomes really obvious why they work.
>>283345699> why do you need to be certified?Because that's not the direction the story went either.
>>283346040The story didn't go in any direction
>>283345969Quirk marriage baby is slated to become #1 and there's still a few who call him Endeavor's son. Turns out it take more than being vouched for by a fat girl to come back to school and punching a gamer to fix society.
>>283345625>a former pro who lost his quirk in Vigilantes who is stronger than most quirked heroesKnuckleduster is also on lots of drugs whenever he goes out as KD.
>>283346201Pain killers from the black market to be exact because uh oh turns out this actually hurts him a whole fucking lot.
>>283346201that's even better. Deku could've used performance enhancers to level the playing field, he has even less reason to do nothing without a quirk
>>283344287Dude you're a fag.
>>283346100If (when) there's a sequel I wonder if Teacherku will ever encounter another battered prodigy like Shoto. Someone's gotta breed a quirk better than OFA, since Deku proved to him having the best quirk ever is the only thing that matters.
>>283330715I think Deku is an abominable character, and the end did nothing to improve him since Chapter 1
>>283345608Very valid comparison, anon. Thank you.Yeah, the weight of what Deku has never really settled upon him as a character. Granted, a lot of modern capeshit has lost it's way as such. The classic>WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITYis long gone. It really is more like raw power fantasy now, and the stories reflect it. The original energy of cape comics was, yeah, chosen one stuff. Except this isn't some cool ticket to fame and fortune you get. It's a very heavy stone you must now carry around and not fumble. If you fumble it, people die. If you lose concentration, people die. If you forget yourself for a moment or get selfish, people die. You could say the classic cape hero is a Christlike figure. The same kind of expectations are laid upon them, and the consequences for fucking it up are dire. You aren't here for yourself. You are here as the suffering servant in truth. THAT is the proper form of the savior figure. Deku was kind of going that way at first, but things then changed direction to the Hero Society Is Right angle. Which is just tone deaf for even it's own story and weird besides.
>>283346067See? Now you get it.
>>283346233Pain killers. Knuckleduster was using pain killers.
>>283346201And several quirked heroes lose multiple limbs. What's your point? Turns out doing more than doing purse snatcher catching highlights for the local news is pretty dangerous, and most quirk users are no more resilient or powerful than a normal person. Which is what makes the MHA take on.. literally it's entire story.. all the stranger. Like, most heroes and villains lose to a guy with a 9mm revolver. Or even a .22. And if he were official, he'd probably have proper medical attention and help that pro heroes have access to? So a lot of his problems may have been fixable before they settled in. Deku certainly got hurt worse than KD ever did and didn't go on black market pain pills. The story doesn't feel very self aware.
>>283346309I guess every proper cape story really does need it's MC to have an Uncle Ben moment >>283345608 huh?

>>283347236This is literally just how Japan works. I keep using phrases like statist apologism, but maybe I should be more explicit with people? It's apologism for exactly how Japanese society works.
Overhaul's motives are so retarded and the fact he betrayed his boss as a Yakuza is the biggest sin right next to him not using his quirk to fucking make innumerable funds for his gang he could've been making fucking billions of of desperate disease riddled people if he actually had power and control on the mind. Anyone with a half a brain knows if you can make a person healthy you're infinitely more useful than just taking away someone's powers.
>>283330715It had a lot of potential and a very cool setting. It just squandered all of that
>>283347400None of the villains really make any sense. Which is a flaw a cape story really can't survive. Capes really are defined by the quality of their rogues gallery.
So when did anon stop caring about the plot and was just continuing for closure’s sake? The point you officially didn’t care about the plot anymore and was just hanging around to see the conclusion for the characters’ sakes?

>>283330715Hori chased 2 rabbits and caught neither. Either do the Mature Deku finds fulfillment in his new role as teacher or Deku never gives ups his dreams and finds a way via Iron Man suit. Doing both sucked.
The reveal shigiraki was forever doomed to have a shitty life because afo planned for him to be born and kill his family really sucked. Honestly I wouldn't have put it past afo to have been controlling those people that walked past shigiraki as a kid considering he had everything else planned ahead for his life apparently.
>>283347888Don't forget he stole Shigaraki's natural born quirk, and gave him Overhaul's with only the destory function. So he would murder his entire family
>>283347880The whole story reeks of trying to have your cake and eat it too. Back to front. Every moment. Every page. I would think people only kept reading in hopes it would make good on any one of a number of story threads but never did.
>>283347911Phew good thing it turned out afo is behind everything otherwise actual issues would be addressed now that we slayed quirk Satan everything goes back to normal and now we only deal with minor villains like car jackers.
>>283347734Hori ABSOLUTELY has a “thing” against women. Maybe it’s subconscious, maybe it’s well-hidden, but there’s an OBVIOUS pattern.
Can we all at least agree Hori is an incredible artist and that is more than half the reason to even read the series?
>>283347993He's a great artist I honestly think he'd do better if he was an artist and someone else was the writer
>>283347977To be fair that was already established during Peak All Might days. That is the world All Might helped create by brutally using his fists. All for One was playing the long game (still jobbed).
>>283347987It's not just the women, though. There's a lot of limbs lost for a feigned purpose that never materializes. Though given the fact payoff for an event NEVER materializes for anything, it may just be he's a shitty writer.
>>283348019This.Having seen so many criticisms of the story that all circle the same issue, the fact is he's a hack writer. He needs to be someone else's artist with him getting some input on how scenes would be a bit more epic with this or that.
>>283345357>The story reads like statist apologist propagandaIs that really a surprise? All the way back in Kamino the narrative told you that Bakugo was and would stay on the good guys' side not because he had any altruistic qualities, but simply because his personal admiration of its top enforcer ensured his loyalty to the system. The manga's ethos is statist and collectivist, not the individualistic and anti-establishment values that underlie the American superhero genre. You have to admit that this is exactly how Japan would do superheroes.
>>283348025Yeah it's still a bit disappointing and is a bit underwhelming considering the fact when afo dies there would be a power vacuum in the underworld unless the hero glowies continue to kill potential threats like nagant and hawks did.
>>283347888Yeah that whole reveal was literally BS. Remember AFO from the early manga where he was literally a parallel with All-Might; simply an old man who realized that he’s past his prime and who used the last of his waning strength to protect the next generation and pass the torch on. This was a perfectly fine, solid premise for MHA. That whole scene of All-Might saying goodbye, of Shiggy crying out for sensei saying that he’s not ready yet as AFO sent him to safety — just thrown out like trash.
>>283348094nuh uh Deku FIXED all of society's reasons why people become villains...somehow.
>>283348160It was obvious that shigiraki was a vessel for afo when it was revealed that afo's last name is shigiraki. The writing was unfortunately on the wall in that regard.
>>283348094can't believe nagant introduced that the glowies are all a murderous cartel and they just never addressed that again.Deku on his next mission to shoot reformist politicians
>>283348281I still believe Deku and class 1-A should've confronted or interacted with the meta liberation army before they got absorbed by the league.
>>283346323I think this is why I hate it so much here because I see it so much in modern capeshit too. A lot of 2010s era next gen heroes don't really carry the same gravitas the classics too and it boils down to getting powers and being TEH AWESOMIST. It lacks the distinctly humanistic element.
>>283348281The moral of the story is that the government knows best

Why eight years though? That's a life time in a lot of ways. let's say it was instead 4 and deku is fresh out of college. Makes sense you wouldn't see your high school buddies in that time if they all go to different universities right? Its long enough to give every time to change a bit but not goes their best bed for almost a decade. Maybe he was also in touch with them in SNS too.
>>283348430why did One for All give his quirk to just one kid instead of giving it to All. And then Deku deleted it and gave it to nobody
>>283348443>Japanese>making friends post Highschool>having time for anything other than wage slaving after College
>>283348443why would they be in touch with him?He was only wanted for his quirk. He's worthless without it. Bakugo giving him a supersuit is only because Bakugo is gay for him, he's not even the rich one Momo is
Regarding Haws and Nagant. All of Nagant’s killings were off-screen and the drama the Hori tried to create around her just rang hollow when she couldn’t even bring herself to follow through on taking out Deku.I actually don’t care that Hawks killed Dabi, Both of them were doing their job, and one of them got the upper hand, that’s all. If Dabi’s psychological approach actually managed to turn Hawks it would have been a huge blow to the Heroes and the Commission, but Hawks ended up winning in the end, that’s all. It’s war. What I can’t stand is all the FAKE drama Hori tried to squeeze out of it just for his usual cowardice to take over at the end as usual to nullify any setup for change.
Horikoshi's next manga has to be about villains/anti-heroes. That is his bread and butter. Morally twisted characters
>>283348550He also managed to completely nullify that atmosphere the story had in that arcDabby died, and a shiton of heroes as well because of Shigaraki, more notably Midnightand then in the final arc where everyone is throwing nukes, it was shonen safe, not that I wanted the kids to die, but yeah

>>283330715>Is it because we don't see Deku and Ochaco end up together?are there actually people who think that final scene isn't just literally that?
>>283348880I don't think anyone thinks they don't get together. They just think it's really lame all we got was a handshake. Not even hand holding. A little intimacy would have been appreciated.
>>2833307151-the whole last arc happens because "we mustn't kill the bad guy because inside he's just a sad lonely kid"2-bakugou doesn't die when he clearly deserves to3-most of the vilains are painted to be anti heroes but Hori clearly doesn't know how to build morally grey characters4-turns out afo was just lonely too5-the final chapter is 90% "we live in a society" 10% "what happened to the characters you love" (bonus chapter fixes that but it was too little too late)I think the manga has some incredible highs like fights involving all might lemillion and stars&stripes, but ending with the worst arc and worst chapter really ruined the whole experienceSNK tier/10
>>283349007How was the star and stripe fight a high? She shows up, nerfs afo and dies. To me it just seemed like a lazy way for Hori to write himself out of a corner.
>>283330715>author too cowardly to kill off any important characters, even at the end when there would have been zero downside, like when Bakugo got a literal double-fist sized hole blown through his chest+heart yet still survived.>generic "we all became the greatest heroes" ending>could have at least ended by showing Deku becoming a top hero without any support, showing that anyone can be a hero, but instead can only become a hero again by having a multi-billion dollar suit made for him, indicating no, you need to be privileged to be a hero
>>283344938>Then why didn't he do any heroism or community work before he was handed the best quirk in all the world? It's like you fuckers read the manga with your eyes closed.
>>283347993He's also incredible at designing characters and making them likeable through little details, like how endeavor makes typing errors on his phone like a boomer, or like the class A heroes give themselves nicknames after a few months have passed
>>283349196>Chapter TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY THREE You're a special kind of retarded and I pity you.
>>283349007AFO wasn't lonely he was more or less an obsessive man child who never even finished the comic he got inspiration from.
>>283349052Hey sure she died like a bitch, but if you don't think punching someone using the atmosphere and using ICBMs as hand weapons is cool as shit then it's your loss
>>283349053The funny part is, a cape story where no one dies works perfectly well. It can even be a classic. Trying to chase tragedy for the sake of tragedy was the wrong move in the first place. There in lay the trap.
>>283349324Not to mention the letter even mentions the quirk.
>>283349469Well, yes, NO ONE DIES TONIGHT, is a common super hero thing. And let's be honest capes are full of fake outs too and too much death has been a huge issue in western comics for a long time now.
>>283349608I'm going to put it like this for Knowers who have read older comics. If you can't make the reader cry over the loss of the MC's pet owl, you won't fair better by chopping off the MC's arm or killing their girlfriend or friend or killing them. Piling on more tragedy when you failed the first time won't do anything but make your story look clownish.
yeah yeah you're right. deku should have been a Batman in his universe and thus feed the ego of the weebo with the archetype of "man among gods."
>>283349655>If you can't make the reader cry over the loss of the MC's pet owlAh, Hooty or Flapper. Man if I had a nickle for every beloved super hero owl I'd have two nickles which isn't a lot but weird right? >you won't fair better by chopping off the MC's arm or killing their girlfriend or friend or killing them. Piling on more tragedy when you failed the first time won't do anything but make your story look clownish.God Cry for Justice was just the worst.
>>283349893>ExtremesInstead he's NOTHING and feeds the ego of lazy self absorbed children who want to blame the world for their problems.
>>283331672Pic unrelated
>>283330715For me, I just disliked how long and drawn out the final arc was. Also, I disliked how much of a jobber AFO is
>>283349967Has there ever been a shounen were the big battle wasn't drawn out? I feel like mangas always been decompressed to hell

>>283349996Gash Bells final fight was pretty short.Like 20 chapters, 30 if you want to include the training arc and Kanchomes fight

>>283349933if you say so...
>>283350415Do you honestly believe he was a genuinely realized character with a proper sense of apotheosis
>>283349893Why should he not have been Batman? The manga keeps bleating in our face how Deku’s not like the other girls. He’s supposedly a strategist but his only strategy is punching at more percent. He’s supposedly strong-willed despite never conquering hardship without the quirk. He’s supposedly special despite doing worse with OFA than All Might or Mirio or Nighteye or many other characters would have in his shoes. If Deku’s really so smart and strong willed and specialler than others with quirks, and you really wanna INSIST that he is all these things and not just a regular joe, then make him do it without OFA.
>>283349490The point is that his mom mentions he was always attempting in small ways to be heroic even before he had the quirk you illiterate monkeys! People keep saying he never did anything but mope before being handed a quirk, when even one of the first things we see Deku do as a kid is try to defend another kid. It's ridiculous to think some 14yo is just going to magically know or have the resources to become built like a bodybuilder too, or know that it's even a major prerequisite. Aside from maybe Kirishima, absolutely no one else is seen training prior to getting in either, and that was only because he was inspired by Deku's sludge incident. The idea that Deku didn't earn OFA because he wasn't already training is dumb, when it's clear the reason All Might chose him was because of his proactiveness to be helpful.
>>283350579The point is that it came too little too late. you get ONE chance to make a first impression so you can't retcon the basic character traits your lead should have hundreds of chapters after the fact. This would be like if we waited 200 issues to reveal that Spider-man is kind of rather smart.
Wouldn't Deku not getting the suit from his friends not fit in with the whole "heroes help people" thing?
>>283350579Dressing up as All Might when you’re a toddler and playing pretend is not being a hero or putting in work.If you want to be a real hero, volunteer at the hospital. I did that when I was a kid. Or at the soup kitchen if Japan doesn’t let you do that.By the way, all the heroes trained since youth to use their powers. Todoroki was bench pressing since he was a toddler. Same with Mirio. Deku’s just a spoiled nerd who never helped anyone or did anything, just whined because he wasn’t the number 1 celebrity.
>>283350579Boohoohoo he’s only 14 don’t ask him to do stuff!
>>283350646It's kind of hard to feel bad for this when some characters have fairly mundane if not useless powers
>>283350559>If Deku’s really so smart and strong willed and specialler than others with quirks, and you really wanna INSIST that he is all these things and not just a regular joe, then make him do it without OFA.He's not more special than anyone else, that's the whole fucking point! The manga practically beats you over the head with "being a hero is about having the courage to reach out and help people who need it" and people still somehow don't get it. Deku's biggest trait is inspiring others to act and be their best selves. That's why AFO isn't beaten by just Deku alone. That's why even after he loses the power and moves on to be a teacher, everyone still cares enough to help him keep living his dream. He didn't achieve it by being the strongest most specialist person, he achieved it by being a good guy and supporting those around him.
I think people on both sides of the argument kind of miss the forest for the trees in regards to Deku's character arc. It's not a problem that he wasn't proactive and self-actualized before the start of the story, and it's not a problem that he's not proactive and self-actualized at the end of the story. The problem is that he's proactive and self-actualized at neither end of the story. If he were a sadsack at the start but actively pursued his true desires after the end of the story, that would show growth, it would show that his experiences had made him a stronger person. And if he tried to make things work without powers at the start but settled down after the end of the story that would also show growth, it would make him seem wiser and fulfilled by his experiences. Point is a character arc needs to be different at either end; you can get away with almost anything so long as you don't just draw a straight line and tell people it's a curve.
>>283350842Deku doesn’t have more courage than others and he could never do that without being handed the best quirk in the world. He achieved it by being a nepofuck.Give the quirk to Mirio, who is more inspiring than Deku, a harder worker than him and a much better peeson than him.
>>283350695Endeavor was a trained fully realized hero, where was Deku going to find someone like that at six years old, not to mention that Shoto's training is always seen as a bad thing because Endeavor always pushed him too hard because Shoto lacked the drive.
>>283350842>he achieved it by being a good guy and supporting those around himThen why couldn’t he do that without OFA? Sounds like it’s not needed then.Oh wait, it is needed, because he beat Shiggy by punching him with the quirk he doesn’t deserve.
>>283350873>Deku doesn’t have more courage than othersLIterally the first chapter is that Deku reached out to try and save Bakugo while everybody else, including the heroes held back and didn't even try. The story literally beats you over the head from chapter 1 and you still don't get it.
>>283350842>He's not more special than anyone else, that's the whole fucking point! So he just gets the best power ever after a single good deed. If the hero isn't special why is he our hero?
>>283350915The story saying it when it’s convienient does not make it true when you can observe otherwise. All Might was a hero without any powers at Deku’s age. Deku sat in his room on the computer bitching because noone would hand him celebrity status if he became a vigilante or volunteered at the soup kitchen instead. All the classmates who do that every day with shitty quirks are far braver than Decuck who gets handed the strongest quirk in the world.
>>283350695Why are you pointing to Todoroki being forced to train young by his abusive dad as if that's supposed to be a good thing? Are you an idiot under the impression that five-year-olds should be strength training or something?
>>283350915That doesn't mean Deku is special, that means everyone else was written poorly. If the only reason he does something is because nobody else will do anything but stand around like idiots is lazy. >>283350968The point is that age isn't an excuse for laziness. Especially if you have a dream.
>>283350885Shoto is just the example that the quirked heroes worked FAR harder to use their quirks than Deku worked in his life.Mirio, Kirishima, hell fucking Mineta, all had to train their whole lives to makes their garbage quirks useful. Deku never even bothered.
>>283350856The only thing Deku wanted was for just one person to say that he could do it. At 14 now, and always being told that he wasn't able to, from his peers, his now ex-friends, his teachers, his classmates, even his own mother and his hero All Might told him no. All he wanted was that reassurance.
Noone’s out there building statues to Mineta for throwing his Hair Grapes at Quirk Satan.Deku got handed the Best Punchy Quirk Ever and punched him and now everyone pretends like he is an inspiration to humanity.
>>283351012>The only thing Deku wanted was for just one person to say that he could do it.Yeah, well people in drinking water want hell. It's not other people's responsibility to prop you up. You want something you earn it. To think otherwise is pathetic. Moreover, nobody said he couldn't be anything else. Just this.
>>283350984Again, why are you using Shoto as an example? He didn't have the drive to be a hero like his brother, Touya did. There is very little point in trying to teach someone who didn't want to listen, let alone the abuse Endeavor was doing of putting all his expectations on him because he was grieving from his dead son.
If Ch1 Crawler became a community hero without a license or a quirk that does anything, Deku should have. Even picking up litter is more brave than Deku.
>>283351069Koichi is also a college student. Very different mindset compared to a middle schooler.
>>283351084Do you need to be a college student to pick up trash these days?
>>283350990>Mirio, Kirishima, hell fucking Mineta, all had to train their whole lives to makes their garbage quirks useful. Deku never even bothered.Because Deku didn't have a quirk! What was he supposed to train. There was no way he was going to beat any of the robots when it came time to do the entrance exam, either.
I’m curious if Deku ever inspired anyone just by being himself, and not by using All Might’s handout quirk. Class 1-A wouldn’t even think anything of him if he weren’t the most powerfulest in every scene.Bakugo was already gay for him from childhood.
>>283351084I think this is honestly the most annoying about this character and this generation. It's always some narrative excuse for why he's never at fault. Because the audience doesn't want to be at fault. It's gotten so bad to a point were they even want to justify their fiction as being too dangerous or too much. Realism only matters when it's convenient. >>283351113>Because Deku didn't have a quirk! What was he supposed to train.Literally anything! His body. Lift some damn weights. Jog. Ride a bike. >There was no way he was going to beat any of the robots when it came time to do the entrance exam, either. It's not about beating robots it's about self improvement.
>>283351113Train your damn body or mind, the same way every hero with useless quirks do. Melissa Shield, Bubble Girl, Nagant, Mineta again.
Mei’s only quirk is that she’s farsighted. She became a gadget inventor hero.David Shield was All Might’s sidekick and his only quirk is that he has double-jointed fingers. I can do that irl.
>>283350962>The story saying it when it’s convienient does not make it true when you can observe otherwise. All Might was a hero without any powers at Deku’s age.All Might grew up in a Turbulent era where he basically had to.
>>283351191Studying to be an engineer is too boring. Deku wants to be a celebrity not a good person
>>283330715weird choiceshuge alienating timeskip for such a young character. fake out mixed signal ending where it's not that he's so fullfilled as a teacher he doesn't need to an hero anymore. Why is he a teacher at all instead of a paramedic or something to make this relatable to real life? Just no catharsis to any of it.
Are there any shounen endings people didn't hate?
>>283351232Excuses. He had it good so he doesn't have to work for his dream?
>>283351571there's a difference between series where actual fans hate the ending and series where the people that say the whole thing sucks are just using the ending as another chance to shit on itMHA is mostly the second, JJK and SNK are mostly the first. I'm not saying MHA is overall better than those, just know the difference between the ending being a chance to shit on it and actually being badly received.
>>283351650I don't even see fans talking about the ending positively. Hell I don't think I even see fans at all.
>>283350984>The point is that age isn't an excuse for laziness. Especially if you have a dream.A lack of confidence isn't the same as laziness. Laziness is the idea that Deku knew he would have been able to achieve his dream if he put in the effort but just didn't. The story is framed as he couldn't even if he tried because he didn't have a quirk. Sure enough the early narrative supports that since without OFA he would've never passed the exam, and that's AFTER he trained his ass off for 10 months to get strong.
>>283351671The ending got a lot of praise when the volume extras were first leaked on here. We even had constant bump limit threads for over 2 weeks. There are fans, but most of them don't post here because of rampant shitposting that was going on for the series on this board for about 3-5 years ago. Jeremy being an easy scapegoat and easy to bait also didn't help.
>>283349903Chat was Peter's best girlfriend and no one can change my opinion on that.
Anyone have those reactions from Japanese readers from that one website criticizing western readers and saying things like "what does any of this have to with McDonalds?" and "stop thinking about sex!"?
>>283350842AFO is beaten by Deku punching him with the strongest most specialest quirk ever. The others are just there to distract him while Deku beats him by being handed a better quirk than everyone. They didn't become heroes because of Deku, they were all heroes before they even met him.
>>283351650This is the correct answer.
>>283350743This too.Deku looks kind of bad when people who have much worse quirks don't get their arms torn off every single page too. The author had a fascination with certain tropes that really undermine what he was trying to sell.
I hope in the inevitable sequel they introduce a quirk that's even better than OFA, because that would remove and erase everything that's special about Deku. Without OFA being strongerer and betterer than everyone else's powers he is worthless as a human being.
>>283351700>The story is framed as he couldn't even if he tried because he didn't have a quirk.I really can't explain this any simpler. It doesn't matter than he couldn't passed even if he tried. He didn't try. That's the problem. Trying is what is an endearing quality. Someone who is dealt a bad hand but tries is an endearing character. Steve Rogers TRIED multiple times to enlist in the army before he was allowed in. Trying matters. the story can frame it however he wants but someone who gives up before they try isn't endearing. It's not about whether or not he can pass. It's to showcase his better qualities to the reader. If the show said he tried six times and was discouraged about trying a seventh then it would be endearing. We can even watch him fail the first few times. That would be endearing. The narrative doesn't support it because there is no narrative. And it's made worse when we see his school has mundane crappy powers. This isn't complicated. Please tell me someone understands this.
>>283343251I really love that pic. Momo soft teasing like that to help comfort him is just super cute all around. Also slightly off topic, but do you anons think there are hero colleges/universities? On the one hand I feel like high school is the make or break here considering how prestigious everything is, but Deku probably had to get an educator degree, right? Was it the same for Aizawa, Mic, and the others or did they just have to show up with their experience?
>>283351821Either you have the reading comprehension of a third grader, or you're purposely being an idiot. Deku didn't even have the whole quirk when he did that specialistist punch ever.
This is a schizo thread isn't it
>>283351997Deku has all the fresh embers like All Might when he does the specialist punch ever, and oneshots him. The others are literally JUST a distraction for Deku to OFA him with his handout nepobaby bestest quirk ever.
>>283351895>He didn't try. That's the problem. Trying is what is an endearing quality. Someone who is dealt a bad hand but tries is an endearing character. Steve Rogers TRIED multiple times to enlist in the army before he was allowed in.Please, for the love of God, learn to actually process what you read. I don't know where you are getting this idea that Deku wasn't trying aside from he didn't try in enough of a generic headstrong shounen protagonist way for you. The only time he truly thinks of giving up is when his biggest inspiration tells him he can't.

>>283352292They could. There's you for example, who can't fathom an argument to me just reciting what literally happens as it happened, so first makes up headcanons that are easily disproven, and now just accuses his intellectual superiors of shitposting for having btfoed him by pure evident truth.Run away now, little dekucuck.
>>283351997tell me mr "media literacy" anon, what do you think "dulling my sensitivity" means? They're just there to distract him from Deku about to punch him with OFA, like always. The entire bottom row of your own page is describing how Deku's OFA is DURR EVEN STRONGERER than All Might's 100%. That's how they beat him. The nobodies distracting him so Deku an use his nepobaby power he doesn't deserve to oneshot him.
I have zero desire to watch the anime version of the final arc. The manga did it perfectly and Bones has done nothing but let me down.
Lmao at that guy claiming Deku inspired all the heroes fighting ShiggyFO with his "heroism"Deku's handout was so inspiring it echoed back through time and "inspired" all the boomer oldheroes fighting Shiggy's tentacles like 13. 13 could not have faced Shiggy without Deku inspiring her by being handed a better quirk than her for 0% of the work she did.

>Ending 1: chapter 430-Deku has been ghosted by his friends for 8 years-Deku is now a teacher but misses being a hero-Crime is practically non-existent so heroes have more free time than ever-The hero rankings have now changed to include civilian contributions-Deku gets handed an iron man suit and is so overjoyed he cries tears of joy>Ending 2: chapter 431-Actually Deku has been meeting up with his friends-Actually Deku loves teaching so much that he only uses the suit part time on weekends-Actually you need 21 heroes to handle a carjacker-Actually hero rankings are the exact same thing as before -Actually Deku is over heroism, his true priority should be prioritizing people he cares about and chasing pussy>Ending 3: fanbook extra-Actually Deku, despite turning down Bakugo's offer to parter with him, now partners with Bakugo on every mission-Actually Deku can just take off of school on a whim and do hero work whenever he feels like it-Actually there are still villains that are so threatening that you need Deku, Dynamight and Shoto all working together to stop them-Actually Deku is now a top hero, and so is Bakugo, despite both having shit rankings a few months ago-Actually Deku is the Greatest Hero™ because he can teach and do hero work. Chasing pussy from is never mentioned again from here on going forward btw>Ending 4: Exhibit photos-Actually Deku and Bakugo are besties who not only fight crime together, but spend almost every waking moment together outside work-Actually despite being "too busy" to see each other for 8 years, Deku now has time to be a hero, a teacher and a photographer who has time to see all his classmates separately on a regular basis -Actually there is no crime again which is why Deku can do thisThis is what I hate. Hori is a fucking coward who couldn't even commit to one ending so he kept contradicting the previous chapter with every new addition he shat out. At least Isayama stuck to his vision.HORI IS A HACK
Looking at this thread and I'm convinced the whole lot of you would have just made chapter 1/pre-chapter 1 deku's self-esteem worse by being fucking assholes about a kid not being like fucking Gohan at age 4.
>>283351946I think it's a bit weird they have high schools for it in general, like it's only that way because it's a shounen, but it'd make a lot more sense if hero stuff began at the college level but in either case, they teach general studies too so an education degree is probably required. (unless you're All Might)
>>283353296>he kept contradicting the previous chapterHe does this from chapter 1 onward. It's the entire problem with his writing in a nutshell. Can't even commit to minor things like 'shoot style' being Deku's way forward to stop him from killing himself.
>>283335074>WHY ARE PEOPLE ACTING LIKE THERE WAS SOME SORT OF BAIT AND SWITCH!?Your definition of a hero isn't how horikoshi saw a hero. Sacrifice for the greater good is true heroism even when you don't personally always benefit. Laying the ground for those who come after you will always outweigh those who selfishly require glory and accolades to do the right thing. The problem here isn't the ending, it's you.
>>283353296I fucking CAN’T STAND how so few fans simply won’t or can’t comprehend that the single most defining feature of Hori as a writer is COWARDICE. He may aim for a narrative, thematic or character goal, but ALWAYS lose his nerve and sabotage it in the end. It’s SUPER frustrating.
>>283352214Yeah bro, and Mineta and that guy with navel beam didn't train to compete against guys with physical quirk like Ida either.
>>283350842Where did you make up all that shit? From chapter 1 Deku's motivation was becoming famous like All Might. Not "courage" or "desire to help" otherwise he would be fine with pursuing mundane work. Loads of heroes work to be rich and famous, chasing the number 1 rank. Everyone against the status quo was rebuffed by the story.
>>283335131cultural difference. Nips do respect teachers. for overseas audience teachers are underpaid and overworked fuckers that are constantly shat on and mocked by students.
>>283355066teachers union hands typed this post. It's the opposite. They're overpaid and underqualified. Teacher median income is higher than US median income and they get 3 months off and job security, only to produce a nation of SSRI-hazed mouth breathers.
I think the ending would have been served better if they did something like Bruce Almighty, where they show Deku just helping out random people without ever using powers. It would be a nice parallel to Koichi who started out like that, for the world's greatest hero to end like that.
>>283351068Not him but Touya didn't want to be a hero. He wanted his dad's attention which came with the training.
>>283355203>Deku just helping out random people without ever using powers

>>283355441>ehi..how can i show deku doing simpler stuff to make the world better?>mm maybe doing something by his own initiative? Like helping childrens crossing the roads, offering himself to help with a kitty on the tree? Working hard on screen? Showing him actually teaching a class and doing far better than Aizawa ? Or even ,when duty calls, have Gadget deku with shitty gadget, his super body and a huge smile joining to help people at the scream of “I’M HERE”?>Nope, just have him react pathetically at a kid stumbling and falling, all while having him falling like an idiot (raught) , still making him 100% passive instead of proactive (just like the suit served to him on a silver plate, because he is just a good boy and deserve it)>also just give a shitty and very weak pep talk to a kid with a shitty kid…yeah we don’t actually need to see him teaching and exploring his quirk togheter..just an handshake and everything its okayYeah, hori is a boring coward with no creativity

>>283337914>Bakugos arcIt didnt though. He didnt change and remained a toptier.Nigga there wasnt an arc.
>>283344677Nigga, dude got randomly granted additional 7 quirks and mastered ALL of them in less than a year. How hard is to control Iron Man suit that comes with manual?
>>283355621But we don't see them officially married and with their kids like other shounen end.
>>283355552bro wants 10 volumes of deku helping a grandma do groceries
>>283355953He got his rank lowered due to his behaviour and nobody wants to work at his agency due to being a spaz.
>>283356007I want a volume of deku's dad teaching him basic handyman skills and reconciling with Inko. Shinzo Abe salutes him from heaven as the volume ends with Inko's pregnancy announcement.
>>283356007Uff, just a single but well done chapter would’ve been enough. It is even more insulting considering Hori got 8FUCKING CHAPTERS + VOLUME CHAPTER for the epilogue.
>>283351946Kys
>>283355552I struggle to think of anything deku did of his own initiative. Basically everything he does over the course of the story is just a reaction to someone else's actions. I guess the time he became a smelly edgelord for 2 chapters was of his own accord? Too bad that didn't really do anything plot-wise.
Official todomomo christmas card
>>283355992plot armor vs efforteasy to use OP quirks are easy to use and OP. Gearshift for example is literally just touching things and deciding what you want them to do, no drawbacks. Black Whip is just unlimited black whips. Float is just flying. No skill requirement like everyone else's quirks. How Deku got handed 7 OP and zero learning requirement quirks when 99% of people's quirks are shit tier is baffling.an Iron Man suit is space grade and 100% skill. Deku's getting fodderised without an easy handout.
>>283354950He didn't want to be FAMOUS like All Might, he wanted to be the kind of hero All Might is. Someone who saves people with a smile and makes them feel safe.Compared to Bakugo who was constantly raving about wanting to be Number One and shit but I guess he doesn't exist
>>283357298>He didn't want to be FAMOUS like All MightGo watch the second season again, please
>>283356431Minetas second gf looks cute
>>283357298Then he’d do a thankless job like policework or EMTHe wanted the attention and worship that All Might gets. He wabted to be a Pro Hero, not an actual hero.
If Deku’s skill was that he knew a lot about quirks and villains, he’d have been a good fit for a police detectiveBut that never even crossed his mind for a second
Y'all just keep replacing deku's dream with Bakugo's goal huh.
>>283357782>y’allInstantly invalidated and suspected of trannyismDeku’s dream is being a pro hero celebrity. He never tried to just be a good person.
>>283357803Deku was always a good person. Hence why he inspired All Might to act on chapter one
>>283357861All Might was a hero decades before Deku was born, he didn’t inspire Al Might. Deku just did a dumb and careless action to get his boyfriend Bakugo. If he were a good person he would’ve done community service
>>283358178So you're saying he should've just walked by while Bakugo was being suffocated which would subsequently mean All Might refusing to act because he's too busy wallowing in how pathetic he is
An attentionwhore and greedy mindset mc could be a great material for self-learning and maturity development over the course of his journey.Except he's written like a goody two shoes beta mc and now we're stuck with this disappointment.

>>283333411But Izuku wasn't disabled; he was in perfect health, nothing impeded him from exercising except his self-esteem.A quirk isn't a requirement to work out. The first thing that they told Kangoroo Tail was not to rely on his tail so much and to learn how to fight. Look at Endeavor and Vlad, their quirks are not about strength, yet they build those impressive, incredible hot bodies, why? Being a hero is a physically demanding job.It is impossible that Izuku didn't know about this, much less that the information was not out there.Hell, one would think that an arrogant guy like Bakugo would refuse to train.>>283342445Kids who have gotten into accidents or been victims of child abuse and were left disabled took up the courage to live on. i assumed part of it is that western audiences don't find becoming a teacher to be something worth aspiring to, while japanese readers don't really mind
>>283355186We all agree they are losers, is his point.
Why didn't Yoichi work out if he wanted to be a hero? There must've been a basic guide to exercising at home in their pile of books.
