I'm sorry but I think you misunderstood that Hagakure quote about lying. It wasn't a mere explanation of the fact that good people tell lies too. If the goal was just trying to fill seats and sell pay-per-view tickets the collab is not useful, the existing fanbase was going to make the last installment a commercial success anyway. Stage 2 reception was very good, major plot lines will reach a conclusion and some fan favorite characters will return in Stage 3. The first show needed the promotion, not the last one.Maybe there's a strategical aim behind this push, but at the same time Dancing Star's storyline is supposed to end and with it the theatrical show they invested in.So the crossover episode is either a heartfelt send-off or a sign that boy Cure shows will continue.I really believe they will announce something at the end of Dancing Star Precure. "Higher up" is such a stupidly vague idea. The Shin-chan collab last year (as random as it was) came from an ABC producer IIRC, who is also on the production staff and doesn't exactly outrank the staff from Toei's side. It wouldn't be a surprise if they figured a collab made sense with the idol motif they have this year, and then made its way in somehow, rather than a "higher up" forcing their hand.In the end, we won't know until we get interviews about this later.

I just watched the last four episodes of Smile. Maybe I'm just in a good mood but this was probably my favorite finale so far, and Precure finales are always pretty great. I was surprised at first by the tone shift in episode 45 but I guess I shouldn't have been; Smile's otherwise eternally lighthearted nature is incompatible with a finale so it's obvious the tone would change. I really like that the motivations and true nature of the three generals was foreshadowed all throughout the season by their occasional bitter statements about friendship, love, optimism, etc. I never thought much about it and assumed it was just random villain stuff with no real context, but it was actually really clever writing hinting at things months in advance. Giant goddess Miyuki isn't something I expected.46 was also really good with the Bad End Precure (Bad End Miyuki is pretty hot) and their being twisted variants of the main Cures, again surprisingly dark and psychological for what's otherwise a pure fun season. I didn't enjoy 47-48 as much but I liked the girls' in their upgraded forms (Miyuki was especially pretty) and CG Miyuki dancing in the corner of the screen during the ending song was cute.What to expect from Doki? All I know is that it's supposed to be the most plot-oriented season with every episode supposedly advancing the story. Kind of hard to imagine what that'll be like since so far has ever season has been mostly slow and character-oriented with only sporadic plot.

I especially liked how everyone got a climactic focus episode in the series of ending episodes where they got to be in the spotlight. I also liked how everyone had a distinct personality. I remember listening to the henshin theme before I got to Smile, the vid showing a pic of the Smiles and I could already tell they're meant to have different personalities. I concur that Doki has lots of plot suff going on. Just in case you'd rather go in blind, but I'd describe the MC as someone you would aspire to be rather than someone you could relate to. Who was best Smile and what were your favorite moments?
