How much value do you put into visual direction?
>>
I've still to watch the movie. Better than the show?
>>
>>283336725
A lot, but I hate kyoani's moe blob samefaces.

Define "visual direction"
Are you talking about camerawork? Color design? Storyboarding?
>>
>>283336725
I think visuals are important in visual media.
>>
>>283336725
If you mean cinematic angles like in that image, then I personally feel like it's way more dramatic than it needs to be. I feel like it makes it appear more distant and artificial, like it's trying to be a grand masterpiece, while with simple visuals it's made obvious that the author did it for fun. It takes away from that comfy feeling of a show that knows what it really is.

/a/ doesn't know the first thing about visual direction.
>>
>>283336806
He means how pretty the legs and feet are which what the KyoAni director does
>>
>>283337330
visual direction = colorful (which is why ryu nakayama's bad)
>>
>>283336725
My preferred visual direction is not doing that stupid digital post-processing.
>>
>>283336725
I prefer my animation to be "moving".
>>
>>283338048
that's making a comeback in blue lock and one punch man
>>
>>283336725
>bloom
>depth of field
>bokeh
why do retards get so easily impressed by those?
>>
>>283336725
I didn't remember the entire show had this instagram filter look, very badly aged now that I look at it
>>
>>283337881
Get on with the time old man, digital post is no longer the future, it's the present now.

Because this thread is made by a narutard.

>ign guy cooming seeing nakayama spend all the budget on useless SoL scenes instead of action scenes
>>
>>283336725
Good direction can make a boring show somewhat watchable, like Summer where Hikaru Died.
>>
>>283336725
It's important and KyoAni does it very well when they're not covering the screen in vaseline, but it won't make up for bland writing and won't make the vast majority of their anime any less boring.

SoL is soul.

Visual direction doesnt matter if the product is shit. I can make a well directed movie about making a cake but the product by itself doesnt have substance
>>
>>283338564
>I can make a well directed movie
It's good to be confident but fucking lmao
>>
>>283338564
Why?
>>
>>283338564
Harmageddon is a dogshit movie yet its visuals were influential for decades to come
>>
>>283338094
Because they only watch cartoons, duh.
>>
>>283338586
Because its only a cake tutorial. Some people think visual direction makes something genius even if the product is not. Substance>>>Style
>>
>>283336725
'ate me realistic backgrounds that look traced from a photo
luv me classic saturated watercolor backgrounds
simple as

>>283336725
It can greatly enhance the experience when the story calls for it, but when it doesn't, like how KyoAni prettifies their teen dramas like this, it just comes off as tedious and obnoxious. I'm sure the fluffy eupho player's revelation that she wanted to become a better person after witnessing her girlfriend defend her soloist position from a coasting senior was as important to her as the writer's was when he realized his daughter's memory would be better honored if he finished her story after witnessing Violet literally walk on water, but one kind of cheapens the other when you present both the exact same way
>>
>>283336725
I'm not discerning enough to tell if what I'm watching has good direction or not
>>
>>283339354
If it
>makes you feel something really strongly without shoving it down your throat
>calls to mind a really specific concept, feeling, or experience you'd never be able to properly express in words
>draws your attention exactly where it's supposed to be without breaking your focus
it's good direction.

Fuck off normalfag
