Reading Rozen Maiden for the first time. Finished the 1st volume of the collector's edition and love it so far. What are your thoughts on it?

>>283339976Rare case where both are good for their own reasons. The anime does its own thing but still decent enough to watch. Manga if you want more and see how it ends. I'd say start with the anime first just to see if you like it since its short. Then move to the manga.

>>283339683I've been reading it after finally watching Zuruckspulen.The first chapters are a bit weird, as you see they were still testing stuff, and some of it go somewhat retconned.Stuff really starts to pick up after the second volume, I'm sure you'll like it.It's complicated to compare it to Nomad's anime: It did cut a ton of stuff that Zuruckspulen had to then reintroduce via flashbacks and the sort, but I also feel that, similar to Emma, it expanded a ton of stuff, like Jun's feelings of guilt towards his sister as well as the character of Suigintou.One of the negative changes was pigeon-holing Suigintou in that dumb trope of "I can defeat you right now, but I wont because... just because, OK?" (Fate/stay night had that a lot), while in the manga she only leaves when she feels she's at a disadvantage somewhat.

Its not about who made it, its about the process and brand. Enju maidens were made using different techniques than the Rozen maidens and were generally inferior due to not holding real fragments of souls. Its unknown what Enju used to bring Bara to life but her body could not handle a human soul and collapsed in on itself. Combat potential does not equal "better" because the dolls were meant to be alice first and foremost and Laplace's demonic deal with Rozen is probably where the doll joint gladiator bs of the alice game came from. Bara also couldn't handle Kirakishou briefly possessing her while Souseiseki was completely conscious and able to come back to their senses.
