What truly motivated Eren to initiate the Rumbling?

Was it to protect Paradis Island? Did Eren believe that the only way to ensure the survival of his homeland was to eliminate the rest of the world?

Was he trying to recreate the world from Armin's stories? Perhaps Eren wanted to erase the current world and build a new one, free from walls and fear, just like the one Armin once imagined.

Was he overwhelmed by power and emotion? Could it be that Eren, consumed by anger and past trauma, lost control and became a prisoner of the immense power he possessed?

Was it simply part of his nature? Eren had shown a willingness to kill for freedom even as a child, such as when he murdered Mikasa's captors long before gaining the Attack Titan and its future sight. That drive was not taught but instinctive. Yet he met Armin even earlier, and Armin's dream of a liberated world may have influenced Eren's violent tendencies, giving them a grander purpose. Maybe the Rumbling was not just about destruction. It could have been Eren's distorted attempt to bring Armin's dream to life.

only Ymir knows lmao
>>
He literally did everything he did only because he saw himself do it in the future, it's such a stupid explanation it baffles the mind.
"Oh, I tried changing the future, but every time I did the future I saw actually came to be anyway" as if destiny has a mind of its own, it makes no fucking sense. You can't say "I tried not to rumble over that poor guy, but I could not!!!" when all you have to do is not step on the guy. Isayama tried to be deep as if destiny was something immutable but in reality Eren was just a weak idiot that gave up the instant he touched Historia's hand and became a puppet to his own visions.

The farmer is a cuck raising Eren's child. There I said it.
>>
>>283345724
Historia and that Farmer is the least believable romance in manga history. They fell in love because he...used to throw rocks at her? And she was into that? Fucker didn't even get a name. The Queen's fuckbuddy was just some dude that she didn't even seem into.

>Isayama reveals the "final panel" of the manga years before it's finished
>It’s Eren holding a baby
>Everyone guesses immediately
>panel randomly shows up in a dream sequence and ErenXHistoria goes nowhere because... she fell in love with a farmer
Isayama cucked out.
>>
the show ended when they all got wiped out at shiganshina by berutoruto and monke, rest is eren's fever dream from getting kicked off before dying from brain trauma
>>
>>283343558
Initially it seemed like it was because he exhausted all his other options. Peace was off the table and the island was about to be genocided, so he had no choice other than strike back.
The two main issues that come after were:

1. Why the fuck did it turn in to him stomping the entire world? A show of power would have been enough, maybe only stomping Marley. All their enemies would probably have been thankful and willing to negotiate afterwards. I also don't see how a few chapters of the Rumbling suddenly turned in to a world tour, when it just seemed like he only got to a few cities and towns at most.

2. The last few chapters murdered his character. He only did things because he was predestined to. see >>283344479

Eren did not initiate the Rumbling to protect Paradis Island, as he knew its destruction was inevitable regardless of his actions.

He wasn’t trying to recreate Armin’s dream world, because his path led to annihilation, not liberation.

His decision wasn’t driven by overwhelming emotion or trauma, but by cold acceptance of a future he had already seen.

It wasn’t simply his nature or instinct, since even his earliest choices were shaped by the memories and burdens of the Attack Titan.

And it wasn’t a twisted tribute to Armin’s ideals Eren’s actions directly contradicted the peaceful world Armin envisioned

"Before the retcon of the ending It was very clear.
Eren was no 'fool with power' he had been contemplating his options for 4 years and when certain with his choice successfully outplayed Marley, his government and Zeke at the same time.
The main 'overt' reason was to protect the island (including his friends and all he loves). This is obvious and the core conflict of the show.
The inner 'personal' reason was a personal disgust/hatred/disappointment for the humanity outside of the walls. Eren could see everything in Armin's book but the existence of these people made it so he couldn't enjoy any of it. At the medal ceremony the image of his Aunt eaten by dogs interrupted his ocean speech and he couldn't enjoy the scenery of the ocean because of what waits across the other side. Enemies.
This is why only mid rumbling when no one can stop him can he enjoy 'That scenery'.
The tragedy of these two motivations is that 1. his friends reject the rumbling and will have to conflict with him and 2. The mass of innocent life Eren has to kill (like Ramzi) hurts him.
Despite this he still finds achieving this freedom and personally wiping his enemies away worth it.
Yes his nature of kill or be killed and his freedom boner fuelled the rumbling along with wanting to not have Historia used as breeding cattle.
At least that was the conflict until it was made to be sparing 1/5th of the global population to perpetually continue a cycle of Eldian rape and 'it was for muh friends specifically' who he killed two of and ostracised the rest from his island of which he left defenceless and ruled by a government names after the man who genocides 80% the world (good luck with the PR).
Eren in his own internal monologue said 'ill wipe them out, every single one of those animals, off of the face of the earth'
100% was always the motive and it was clear why.
80% then lose, fate slave, Mom killing, contradicting motive, 'I don't know why', 'I'm an idiot' Eren isn't canon"

Yeah everyone says ending haters wanted a le hecking romance with Historia and eren when really we just wanted something to come out of what should of been an obvious red herring and a pay off that makes Historia more important than just 'ill get preggers to not eat Zeke for one month'. Also this idea of Historia breeding for the sake of some plan was literally one of the main reasons Eren rejected the 50 years plan so him then seemingly having sacrificed Historia in this same manner didn't sit right.
There were so many different theories on how Historia having this baby (she would obviously name ymir) could be important to the ending both in plot and theme but nah she just wanted to bang her abuser like every other woman in this shit show.
Ymir, Mikasa, Annie, Historia. All 4 of the most important females in the story love their abusers.
karl fritz gained a 2000 year empire from it
Annies dad got a super warrior who saved the world for him
Eren got to end the titan curse manipulating and mentally abusing Mikasa
and the farmer got to fuck the queen.
Literally all you gotta do is say sorry or be a little nice after abusing a woman in this world and you get em soaking.
If anything its a consistent theme that abusing women lead to devotion and high achievement.
Thanks for the lesson Isayama

I think so. The ending is such an abomination to writing and yet somehow so many people don't see the thousand flaws staring at them. Because of this debate over it will continue forevermore. Also the story was too based to have a good ending so any /pol/tards will seethe about what could of been till the end of time. As will I, The rumbling would of been the most daring and memorable ending in fiction if Eren went through with it but instead we got somehow the safe avengers level 'everyone is here' battle in what was once a dark fantasy where people die instantly to basic titans and on top of that we got a total pull back on Erens motivation along with a total character and worldbuilding assassination that breaks the story from start to finish.
Game of thrones was awful but at least it was awful for 2 full seasons. Aot was at the finish line. flawed but salvageable, It could of been a masterpiece of a tragedy but now the only tragedy is how shit it is.

>What truly motivated Eren to initiate the Rumbling?
The Rumbling was likely the Worm's plan. Eren and Ymir's brains were too melted by Paths to really understand what they were trying to achieve. The Worm might have had some nefarious plans involving humanity's extinction and planted the idea into Eren, but the manga ends too soon before properly elaborating on what the Worm even was.

The ending chapter (which got retconned twice with the added 8 pages and then the anime rewrite) is literally a bunch of reveals of character and worldbuilding all of which annihilate said character and worldbuilding across the story. Almost every line of that chapter can have an essay about how much it fucks with everything. But no, not retcons at all bro just trust me bro authors don't change their minds and make changes ever.

He did it because he wanted the world to look like the book. Actually he did it to save his friends. No, he did it because he was predestined to. He did it because he saw all the futures and the rumbling was the only way to save his friends. This. You have to convince me that Eren 'freedom' Yeager learned that his fate is to live 19 years of hell, kill his dad, brother, two of his close friends, 80% of the world, fail to stop the conflict, use god level time powers only to kill his mum and nothing else then get killed by the woman he loves not acquiring freedom and he folds to this? Eren would do whatever it takes to break fate and the 'the paths are across all time' give him the ability to do so.
They just give him this level of power and only say he used it to keep this fucked up hell timeline in tact which makes no sense.
>>283351839
The anime did try and fix this with this line but its lazy. what did he try and do exactly? It's a throw away to make u stop thinking. I bet Isayama couldn't even think of an arc of Eren changing the past with god powers and it somehow resulting in worse for eren than what he was already in.

Retcon: A piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency.
Explain to me how the ending chapter isn't just a bunch of retcons by definition.
Then do the same for the added 8 pages that Isayama added weeks after
Then do the same for the literal rewritten ending for the anime that adds in stuff like 'I actually did try to change the past bro'
You might actually be retarded.

Eren straight up cries to a boy that he saved, one who he knows will die in the Rumbling, that a definite part of why he'll do it is because of his own innate disappointment that the world outside the walls wasn't what he dreamed of/envisioned from what Armin's book showed. When he learned humanity existed outside the walls, he was disappointed in their mere existence, wishing to wipe it all away as it was ultimately not what he thought the world outside would be.

If he didn't kiss Historia's hand, that disappointment probably would have been the end of it. But now, we gotta deal with the solid concrete fact that Eren fucking SAW THE FUTURE and somehow ended up being destiny's BITCH despite supposedly trying everything he could to change what he saw only to end up staying the course because deep down he fucking wanted to do it anyway.

Eren post-timeskip is a fucking loser.

Eren loves freedom
For 50 year plan Historia would have to breed children who will be raised to eat her and be sentenced to 13 year lifespans on repeat. Basically royal cannibal cattle.
Eren specifically rejects this because of his character and values while I think most other people wouldn't give a fuck, hell no one else in the story seemed to care. wasn't the main motivation anyway but that's the gist of it.

He wanted to be DEFEATED by a coalition of his countrymen and enemies, so the enemies might engage in diplomatic contact with his countrymen.
Eren never cared about his nation or race, he only cared about his friends and family (except when he killed his own mother with time travel mind control magic, and doomed the offspring of his friends to die in a nuclear holocaust)

For a few years. He could have protected Paradis forever, but decided to spare 1/5th of his enemies for some unexplained reason, ensuring the future genocide of Eldians. His plan made no sense morally, or logically

It was arguably consistent when the paths mechanics was only a tight small scale memory tism with attack holders only. When the fucking line 'The FOUNDER makes it so the past, present and future all exist at once' drops in order to set the rule Eren can manipulate all titans/Eldians across time it causes so many fucking paradoxes and plot holes the story simply can't exist.
Fritz wouldn't allow Eren to be born to commit genocide and every fritz before fritz wouldn't allow fritz to be born to fuck Eldia over.
The Eldian empire should of been a perfect 100% speed run due to this.
There should be a million Erens and Fritz in the paths at the same time
But then also the second Ymir enters the paths is the second she ends it meaning it should simply never exist.
And then also this power only being used to kill Erens mom instead of literally anything else is retarded. And no, 'he made the choice because he had to preserve the worst timeline for him possible' is not a mechanic for the power itself. He has the power to control titans across time, why his 'self fulfilling loop' doesn't account for his actual wants and needs makes no sense because he would change it if so. Eren wanting the timeline he was fated to have would be an assassination. see >>283352056

Which is also very OOC for him.
He was smiling at the children watching the SC in amazement .
He was worried for the children experience what him and his friends experienced in Shigashina and Trost when Rodd titan was attacking.
He was crying for ramzei and his family thinking brutally killing them was horrible and unfair.
He patted the head of the deformed titan before they reached the beach.
He was pretty much dead inside in Marley at the idea of killing innocent people during chapter 100, and even forgave Reiner as he understood what he suffered and the reasons that brought him doing that….

So the whole “eren doesn’t cares about anyone but his friends “ sounds bulshit to me…

its a no ontological origin paradox. eren did it because he already knew he would do it in the future. and eren was incapable of choosing not to because he had no control over his actions after touching historia. "I couldn't tell the difference between seeing the future play out, and it actually happening. I think I must have gone insane" - Eren, to Armin.
everything that happened for 2,000 years after Ymir encountered the wyrm was a stable loop of future events influencing the past to ensure they happened in the future

Was there even freewill to begin with?
Did Eren and the other's have a choice or was this what was always going to happen?

Isayama retconned eren because people were defending him instead of defending Armin aka his favorite character

>, 'he made the choice because he had to preserve the worst timeline for him possible' is not a mechanic for the power itself. He has the power to control titans across time, why his 'self fulfilling loop' doesn't account for his actual wants and needs makes no sense because he would change it if so.
What then he wouldn't be in the spot to make that decision.
You don't understand time flow.

"I won't let fate decide Paradis' future."

AoT started as the author's revenge fantasy against his high school bullies. Making his MC murder everyone on earth with naked giants is pure edgelord fantasy, and essentially a prequel to the original "pilot" chapter for AoT that got the series greenlit.
Then it got giga popular so he made it longer with a convoluted storyline and had to come up with some justification for the naked giant apocalypse that would be palatable to the masses and not get him in trouble, so he added in a bunch of magic and time travel bullshit so Eren *had to* do it and the author can act like he's condemning the act even though he dreamed about drawing all those NPCs getting crushed for over a decade.

Eren said himself that he doesn't know why he did it and closed it with: I guess I am stupid lol, only Ymir knows.
That's Isayama's lazy way of telling you that he wrote himself into a corner when he decided to suddenly change the course of the story and by this point was too tired of the series so he just patched up the absolute surface and prayed that normalfags will spare him.

It reminds me of that 40k guy who could see the future, but did nothing to actually prevent bad things from happening.
When he saw that he was going to be assassinated, despite being able to prevent it, he let himself get assassinated, because otherwise that would have meant that he could have changed fate, and he could have stopped all the bad things that have happened up to that point.
"You can't change fate," only makes sense if the story clearly shows that you cannot. Anime like jojo do that really well, because they show that you really cannot change it, just 'alter' what it really means. If they showed eren either trying to not adhere to fate, but it happens anyways, then fine. But they show basically shows eren never actually trying not to.
