They're probably not as extreme as you're expecting though, I just kept track of plot points and other details per episode, for example how the monologues before the title card always relate to the particular episode's themes. Always ask yourself if you understand something, and if you don't or aren't sure, writing down what it is works wonders for eventually grasping it. It's really something anyone could do, but it uplifts your appreciation for the episodic structure and continuity a lot.
