Say what you will. I believe Luffy and BB would still work together without actually working together. Luffy wouldn't like it but he probably won't stop Teach helping him out. Teach is written in a really weird way. As an anon mentioned, he adores Luffy. And at his very first meeting, he seems to have garnered both Luffy and Zoro's respect, leaving them speechless which if you've been paying attention is incredibly rare in this manga. Since then he's been portrayed with athe personality of a smallfry villain-of-the-week almost every time he appeared, but he has constantly only gone up. In a manga with already many complex characters, he is undoubtedly one of the most complex. And even Luffy(whom I also consider to be quite complex, as far as shounen MCs are allowed to be, anyway) acknowledges that.
