Is this worth it if I was born in 1993? (so Im familiar with late 90s and early 00s anime)
>>

Grotesquely overrated.

it's ok but i never finished it. it's mostly just the internet being new at that time and made around the paranoia surrounding it. just like every other revolutionary technology advancement in human history. you can draw comparisons to the industrial revolution or ai panic we are currently experiencing. honestly, the show felt like an old man yelling at clouds, "get off that dang internet, and go outside. pcs are the devils construct." etc.

then why should i finish reading your post? stopped reading there

you don't need to finish every anime. it's just another form of media made to be consumed and thrown away.

literally everyone here is your age or younger so it's not like they're going to be able to give any better insight

>Tfw I'm only 5 years younger than you
Damn, I'm getting old.

And yes, it's worth it. It's basically a CS case study on how to build a mainframe. So imagine implementing that in Github or Linux and you get Lain.

I also recommend the .hack//SIGN anime if you want something similar. Also shares VAs in the dub.

It's a cute little tribute to Neuromancer, Godard movies and the CS culture of the time, and I'd recommend watching it with these lenses.
>>283396221
They're similar but different. I'd say the Shigurui anime is closer to Texhnolyze than lain is.

Were you in coma or something?

Lain wasn't my cup of tea but it certainly was an anime I didn't regret watching. Few things you should know:
>dub is hit or miss, you either love it for its deadpan deliveries or hate it
>DO NOT watch the BD, watch the DVD as the BD has new CGs, re-edited scenes, coloring issues, etc
>PSX Lain is completely separate from the anime and was developed simultaneously, would recommend if you like VNs (it was better imo)
Hope you enjoy!

I distinctly remember there scenes being missing, including in the finale.

It's worth watching if only for the cool aesthetics and animation.
