Do you think the hero/protagonist should always end up with the "main" girl?

How do you feel when there's some romantic build up between two characters only for them to not end up together?

SHAMELESS self-bump

try it with an anime that's not a complete shitfest, next time
>>

the real issue is that most authors don't give any of the characters good chemistry together; the characters are all just your standard animanga archetypes intended to pull in the merchandise sales and drive stupid "best waifu" arguments.
Otherwise I don't really care who the MC ends up with, as long as the characters have natural interactions with believable development and progress.

Usually, it's done only to give you a bittersweet ending, which is probably more memorable than a happy ending, but it's a hacky way. Didn't read Bleach more than 10 chapters but was surprised about Rukia

>Do you think the hero/protagonist should always end up with the "main" girl?
it depends
>How do you feel when there's some romantic build up between two characters only for them to not end up together?
it depends

>>283398590
it depends on the genre doesn't it? and these two do end up together, they just happen to die together too.

I prefer a designated winner or even title character who is the undisputed best girl with whom no other character could possibly hope to compete

that's just a waifu anime where one female character more or less dominates the show. Alya's show is actually an exception to that given Yuki and Alya's own sister dominated the first season more than Alya herself.

Bisque doll, Uzaki, Nagatoro, Takagi, Kubo, Komi, Shikimori, Sukimega, The Angel Next Door, etc. are all this type of show, just waifu anime per >>283399802 Roshidere is actually more on the level of Kaguya in terms of the number of good girls in it, easily could have been a harem-type for Masachika or Miyuki.

That is why we got Makine

we all want NTR

And sometimes they do but still fumble the closure, see Bleach

No one does

it's not that the MC and main girl/boy have to end up together, but I want writers to make good on things that they set up. when they dangle a carrot in front of you to keep you interested the whole story and then have little or no payoff that's when we have a problem.

>How do you feel when there's some romantic build up between two characters only for them to not end up together?
fucking BAD. however, that can sometimes be the intention of the author, e.g. 5cm per second, in which case I still respect the story. but once again if there's set up I expect it to go somewhere otherwise the writer is a hack.

Any girl that ends up with the hero is by extension main girl because she fits into the main characters main story.

>Do you think the hero/protagonist should always end up with the "main" girl?
I think it's always for the best for MC to end up with the girl he has the best chemistry with regardless of whether she's the co-protagonist or not
>How do you feel when there's some romantic build up between two characters only for them to not end up together?
Depends of what you mean by romantic build up and how it's presented, romantic "moments" are cute and all but they can be presented as being one sided as is often the case for losing girls, MC thinking he wants to date a girl early on only to go for another one in the end can be used to show character development, in my experience at least is extremely rare for MC to look like he loves one girl only to change his mind at the last minute without any warning

>How do you feel when there's some romantic build up
The issue is when there's no romantic buildup at all yet people still get mad their self-insert didn't get with their favorite.
>>
>>283398590
No, they don't always have to end up together, but subverting expectations when you build them up only for nothing is the worst.

"Main girl" could simply be the most prominent female character, a regular supporting character or a secondary protagonist

It's kind of expected that if she is attractive the "hero" of the story has to end up with her

In case of Darling in the FranXX, thanks to TV series the core plot was just within まものと王子様 story. In this case it is not even worth to discuss who had to end up with the mc.
However in case of (you) being a manga fag certain elaboration is needed since manga ending differs from tv. But then again, in case of this show I personally still do not see strong enough relationship to pair her with mc instead of Zero Two.

*to pair Ichigo with mc instead of Zero Two
>>
>>283399785
That makes the romance less memorable
