You know, I used to be the first person to say "it's nothing like SSR, other than the pu in the title" but after this volume I feel like I was wrong. There is the lady taking a plane on a journey she isn't likely to return from, but there's also the pattern of the two girls getting to visit a place or experience something for the last time in the history of the world, like it's not just their "last tour" but also the world's. We've seen this in Umihotaru, which fucking explodes, we've seen this more recently in Kusatsu, those places aren't there anymore, if you wanted to retrace Yoko and Airi's steps, those two stamps are just something you're not getting. They were there to witness Arnie's final hours, they held the last race on Motegi, they probably had the last air tour of Honshu. It really is the last tour of Japan.
Also, I loved the contrast between Claire feeling sorry for the young girls for having to live in this damned world and Yoko just enjoying it the way it is. Reminded me a bit of Sora no Woto.
I liked how the author introduced a character from before the fall without simultaneously revealing the actualy time frame the story is set in. Yoko was born in a shelter some time after the fall, Claire and her crew have been in stasis for god knows how long, so the year could really be anything from 2040 to 2525. The mystery was preserved and so was Claire's youth. Also, I hope that the pathogen wasn't just a plot device to kill her off and it actually had something to do with the downfall. I also hope there is no plot reason why Yoko is healthy and it's just her resisting the disease with the sheer power of baka.
>You really are a Motorcycle Girlâ„¢Onsa's philosophy lives on.
Yoko got a fucking gun.
The latter half of the volume made me sad, partially because I know how it goes by now and I knew we probably wouldn't be seeing Claire for much longer, but also because between all the lore dumps and revisitng all the places the girls have been to it really feels like the story is coming to a close.
And I've always liked these pages, because there were a few. When you're on the road, no matter what happens to you, morning comes, you get on your baiku and you leave it all behind. You really have to keep moving so you don't fall down, don't you.Now somebody please reply to my blog posts so I don't look like a total idiot.
>>283403869Any summary for volume 7?
>>283404378It was mostly the episodic tourist stuff. After they attract someone's attention with their little fireworks show in Nagaoka, they head north towards Misawa checking off all the tourist spots along the way. A bunch of flashbacks, that's kind of the point where it becomes clear in the manga it's not just Yoko's daydreams, they have a Tanabata festival in Sendai and Airi adopts a duck.
