I just realized that Denji being paired up with Beam (Cherubim) for the Reze arc is a funny coincidence given that modern depictions of cherubim often conflate them with Cupid
Saw the movie again, was just as good the second time. The climax obviously took the most creative liberties with the length and scale of the battle, but I would argue that it was improved for an animated medium. I think the scene where Denji eats the flower isn't as funny as in the manga, but that's more because of the nature of the mediums. The manga works a bit better for slapstick because reactions can be immediate, and you only get the best frame of them. That single panel of the woman's bewildered reaction just hits harder than what anime could reasonably do.But that's what I like. Both mediums have their strengths that they can play to, and it felt like if anything was worse in the movie, it wasn't necessarily the fault with any director but rather something uncontrollable.

Of course it has dark elements from the beginning, but Denji's immaturity manages to brighten what would normally be depressing. The seriousness of these situations doesn't really manage to phase you until Himeno and all the Public Safety Devil Hunters get shot, but like Denji says, even then he doesn't feel that sad, and it's because he didn't know Himeno for that long or that well. It's Aki who takes it hardest. But the cracks are there. The anime decides to hyperfocus on these cracks and ignore the wall, but it takes away the impact for when the wall breaks because all you saw were the cracks.As you, the reader, become more accustomed to these characters and understand them more, you begin to care about them like how Denji cares about them. The anime's tone is unearned and only serves to suck the life out of it. As a big fan of the series, I've never felt like recommending the anime to anyone as a first experience, only as supplemental material. I finally saw the film last night with some friends, and we were all very happy with it. I think this time they captured the feeling I got from reading the manga this time (season one dropped the ball at some pretty significant moments, and the comedy didn't seem to work either). The animation was great, obviously. Reze's voice surprised me at first but I thought her VA was a perfect fit in the end. The part where she sang in Russian wasn't cringe, which is probably the most surprising thing about the whole film. The music was exceptionally good. There was something I noticed with the piano theme that played at some point during one of their dates; when Reze revealed her powers and the music builds up, the same piano is playing but with a load of heavy distortion over the top of it. I really liked that. There were lots of moments of great sound design. I had it in my head that the scene where Beam rescues Denji and runs away would have a techno track playing and thats more or less what I got. I've seen some people in other threads complaining about a lack of creativity and glazing the DRAGON for season one's approach, but the panelling and fight choreography in the Reze fight is probably some of the best Fuji has ever done so I'm glad the stuck close to the source material. The only specific panel I was dissapointed not to see was pic rel. A couple other things I loved were the freeze frames during the Typhoon kill that had the same colour scheme as the volume covers, and the slowmo stand rush beatdown Reze did to Beam for no reason whatsoever, that was funny. The slapstick quality of the manga and the comedy in general was done well. My only real complaint is that the fight against Typhoon was a bit incomprehensible, but that was always going to be case I think. I also didn't care for the intro song. But yeah, it was KINO

His history with Makima and Nayuta's contrasting innocence of her crimes just makes it more a compelling case to care for her truly.The problem is that I'm pretty sure his sense of emotional/relational closure is fucked because people die left and right around him every single fucking day.
