>>
>>283419889
Rise of AI-related shitposting, schizoposting, and general inactivity from the mods.
>>283419913
Less of "dying" and more of dead. 4chan has been culturally irrelevant for most of this decade and the site has shrunken down to less than a thousand posters on most boards (excluding /v/ and /pol/ but they are small now too).
You can safely assume if you are in a thread for a specific topic, it's the same 20 or so people posting about it now. I think getting rid of IP counts only worsened this, then again the mods of this site are middle aged and only host this for entertainment now.
The captcha breaking has been awful too.

>>
We must be so close to the breaking point where they can't maintain "normal" operation.
>>
>>283420104
>The captcha breaking has been awful too.

They've also had the new captcha style too, the one where you only type the letters with circles above them. Don't know how recent that is but maybe that's only for phoneposters.

>>283420108
Given how terrible every alternative was when the site properly went down in April, nowhere.
>>
>>283420108
Well, let's see:
>half the site left for 8 chan
>said half split between k*wifarms and sharty
>rest on here who stayed are middle aged or bordering middle aged, stopped using the site
>altchans are all shit or run by pedos (bantculture for example)
I think the idea of anonymous imageboards is pretty dead. If it isn't, then someone sure hasn't made a good evolution on it.
>>
>>283420160
The problem is and will always be simply lack of a moderation that gives a shit. And that it's not schizophrenic, too. Moderation that actually wants to make the place, you know, good.
There's a reason so many people left and never returned from the alternatives they went to during the site's hack: They finally tasted what it was like to browse and post on an imageboard with actual fucking moderation where shitposters and bad actors are dealt with instead of being a privileged class.
>>
I'm sure this thread will be deleted/banned because talking about the website itself always leads to that.
>>283420142
Wrong! Whereas 4chan founded modern internet culture, it didn't evolve with it and thus has died out, along with all discussion. You can't get anything new from talking about the same things over and over for years.
>>283420147
I don't think 4chan will survive this decade, and if so, will be the last decade the site is up. It will die a very shallow death, just like its father SA.
>>283420152
No, that's PC too. It's random.

Mods on other sites are just as bad, if not worse. The difference is they enforce their policies harsher and actively use the site they police.
Mods are always fags no matter what platform you go to, game, website, etc. A big difference too is people's political allignment now.

>The difference is they enforce their policies harsher and actively use the site they police.
So they actually moderate their site. Oh, the horror. Now every thread won't be /dbs/ lite.
Sure, mods will always be faggots, but there's a reason people left in droves. If every other site was just as bad if not worse than here than even the super fast boards like /v/ wouldn't have threads that last for fucking days now. Even now here on /a/ we can easily have weeks-old threads.

It is astonishing that the culture of tripfaggotry has completely been forgotten.
>>
>>283420210
It's not just about care, it's also whether they're passionate about the same interests as the users and involved with the day-to-day. You can't expect people who are out of touch with the culture and tangential relations of a board to effectively moderate it because they'll cull things that would otherwise be accepted and appreciated by the community. It's a wonder we still have certain events (/ss/, draws, sings, r/a/dio, 25 Days, even if the last one had threads deleted in the past), though many others have been killed. You have to contend with overzealous enforcement, double standards and shitposters all at the same time.

>>
>>283420333
That's definitively part of the issue. And it's ultimately tied up to the moderation caring about the site. It's all about wanting to cultivate your garden. If the people in charge don't want to see the place to bloom, it will never do so.
>>283420339
Oh, please.
All of /v/'s splits were all dead as fuck boards and all of them were created years before the hack happened.
The only one that thrived was /vg/ and that's another one that slowed down considerably from how many people fucked off.
Just look at fucking /vt/.
The Hololive Global used to last 2 hours max. When slow. And now it can last for fucking days.

tl; dr: a cabal of pedos with infinite proxies (that mods helped to create by being incompetent narcissists) has been spamming CP on /v/, /g/, /vg/ and other boards, and recently have been launching DoS attacks (probably as a side effect of the shitty code of the bots that post CP) against the sys.4chan subdomain that handles post/report submissions.

Spammers only care about the highest traffic boards because despite whatever they might claim they seek attention above all else. That's why it's all over /v/ and almost nowhere else.
>>
>>283420838
It legitimately was their fault for not dealing with the cancer when it was still small. The cabal started as a general on /g/ dedicated to hoarding and sharing porn, but one day they found ways to hide all sorts of files on normal posts. Instead of doing something about it, mods ignored them for weeks, letting them spread to /v/ and continue hiding porn everywhere. It was only when they began to share CP through these tools that mods banned their general, but at this point they were coordinated enough to migrate to another site where with the help of another cancerous faggot with proxies they continued to exchange CP on /v/ and /g/, resulting in many of the anti-features that 4chan has today (more rangebans, timers, 3 different captchas, advanced shadowbans, using cloudflare to reencode files and strip their metadata making it harder to search them in archives).

They made the same mistake by letting /qa/ be overtaken by wojakfags until it became an independent community that eventually hacked 4chan and doxed part of the staff, or by letting /dbs/ generals fester on /a/ until flooding the board for attention became part of their "culture" and every many other generals in /a/ and other boards adopted their cancerous behavior (mods only began to crack down on /dbs/chizos when one of their resident spammers started to spam CP, btw).

They need a reason to justify their own existence. Only when there are persistent ban evaders, they will desperately try to fight them, because they directly challenge their authority. If it's hidden or non-obvious, they don't have to care, because there's no problem,, right? Even better if they're CP spammers (instead of just "symbols" like frogs or jaks), because it directly gives them the feeling of fighting the good fight, instead of bullshit versus bullshit.
>>
>>283420991
>mods only began to crack down

>Nothing on /b/? Damn.
/b/ has its own issues, like specially retarded pedos making session/kik threads there to share CP. Mods only banned these threads when a lawmaker was arrested for sharing CP (see https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.scd.305804/gov.uscourts.scd.305804.11.0_1.pdf) and a kik thread on /b/ appeared among the proof. But as usual, they only applied half-measures, banning kik an session threads on /b/ but letting kik threads exist on /soc/ and not even warning the rest of the site about it. And to make it worse, they lifted the bans on both boards a couple of days ago by deleting the threads telling anons not to post that stuff.

How long was the site running with clear vulnerabilities before a hack forced them to update it (I'll give you a hint: it's two digits)?

post IDs literally made people like you spam threads because you thought everyone was samefagging.
People could not post more than once per thread without you having a meltdown looking for excuses to dismiss whatever argument you got your dumbass into.

The downtime this year was really hilarious.
>site gets attacked using a decades old bug
>it's down for like 3 weeks
>turns out the dev only needed like a day to put the site back up
>instead of carefully auditing all code, just disables pdf uploads and sets up a new server image or something
>but during the downtime, other people found new bugs in the leaked code
>one bug was moving threads by bypassing an access check
>when the site went up, suddenly random threads got moved from board to board
>it was the unfixed bug that was found during the downtime
I don't think the 4chan dev is incompetent, he just didn't give a wet shit. He probably ignored their requests for help until they offered him money, and then he did a minimum job.
>>
>>283420551
The vast majority of that is mostly people using the embed thing to hide links to catbox'd CP that is picked up by their extensions/scripts to allow other fags to access it from images posted on 4chan, it's linked to one of the ban evasion sites along with some session and telegram circlejerks.
>>
>>283421204
The whole point of an anonymous imageboard and the whole reason this site is active is the ability to say something retarded, like your post.
>>
>>283421204
I agree with the first part but
>In an ideal world no thread should last long enough for you to meaningfully change
In an ideal world anons are flexible enough to learn and grow from interacting with each other
>>
>>283421196
There's a bunch of pedo/zoo niggers with proxies spamming CP (sometimes hidden in images) on various boards and overloading the part of 4chan that handles posts/reports/captchas, making it harder for everyone to post.

Funnily enough, every single instance of "cancer festering" (/dbs/, /qa/ -> sharty, etc.) is actually the few instances of rapid "cultural genesis" on this site, for lack of a better word. /dbs/ posting in particular has spread rather far through the internet and is like the only notable thing that /a/ has produced recently.
>>
>>283421247
The idea was that every new IP that accessed 4chan without a cookie would have to sit in a 15 minute time out before being able to post. Of course people have found a way around it, but the idea wasn't bad.
>>
>>283421247
It slows them down which deters weaker spammers, which is an improvement. Stronger schizo spammers couldn't be deterred anyway but they would be slowed down at least.

No matter how many times you say this, it will never be true. It saved the dragon ball threads, for example. GuP too.
>>
>>283421330
You could just reset your ID. But then, people would call you out for being a new ID.
>>
>>283421194
They'd have to reset their ips even more now if they don't want people to easily filter them out (hence making their spam futile) and even if they did the constant 1pitd accompanying their shitpost still easily flags them as a miserable faggot constantly resetting ips to try to get their spam noticed. Not to mention resetting ips is a hassle, no matter how fast takes to reset it still builds up in extra time wasted just to shitpost. It causes shitposters to hesitate for even a brief second and makes them think twice before they try to derail a thread.
>>283421200
No one gives a shit about how often someone posts in a thread as long as it's not done maliciously to derail. A single person could make up 200 posts in a thread themselves and at worst he'd only be thought of as an autist by others as long as he's not actually shitposting. I'm not ashamed if I post a lot in a thread, shitposters are because everyone can easily see all the derailing attempts made by them and can filter it.

/a/ is mostly fine. You need to fix the whole site first.

>delete every board that isn't one or two degrees removed from anime
>temporarily freeze the "problem" media boards like /v/ and /tv/ until the tourists wander off and find new homes
>completely disable phoneposting permanently
>ban anything associated to "generals" sitewide, discourage subcommunity circlejerking

We need to get rid of tourists who openly hate anime and return the site to its core userbase. Of course this means shrinking the post volume dramatically so the current ownership won't go for it.

The biggest lesson 4chan never learned is that containment boards like /mlp/, /vp/, and /pol/ don't perform their function. In fact, they do the opposite. They just give a home for cancerous subcommunities to grow and start drawing tourists, who then start to migrate to other boards, worsening the post quality. We need to excise it all with a sharp scalpel and then maybe the body can heal.

What hugbox did you come from where you get upset about being called schizo while you're vocally telling everyone you're uncomfortable not knowing who is who on an anonymous site?
The trick is to just be sensible and logical. If you find yourself in a dumb nerd argument and you start thinking "oh fuck all these posts must be the same person!" ask yourself if that even matters. Did you say something a lot of people might disagree with? Is your opinion unpopular? Does it matter if it is or not? Should you care if one person is spending the time posting multiple times to you?

You're still anonymous with post ids. You don't have to make an account nor provide personal info to post and ids reset for each thread already so no autist can really track you, the only one's autistic enough would still try to track you even if there weren't ids. It only links posts you've made in a single thread, and if you have nothing to be ashamed of it doesn't even matter because no one will even bother checking your post count if you aren't shitting up the thread to give them a reason to want to filter you. It literally is the second fastest board on the site (only behind /vg/, a board that is practically a mini-4chan inside 4chan with hundreds of independent communities) and even politicians try to do stupid shit like pic related to appeal to the kind of faggots obsessed with politics that browse this place. Real answer: The hack and the subsequent removal of /qa/ broke 4stats' spaghetti code, specially the part that makes graphs work, and the owner decided to remove the graphs from 4stats and rewrite the code. Currently a partially functional version of 4stats with graphs for most boards is available on https://dev.4stats.io/.

Seeing how you fags are sperging out, here's my retarded way on how to fix the site and get rid of all the normalfags.
1. Make lolis accepted site-wide and encourage people to post them on all boards.
2. Make /pol/ unusable by doing the following:
2.1. Put a hard limit of posts per day totaling 80% of the current daily posts on the board, meaning: if the board currently has 88k posts per day, users would now be only allowed to post 70k messages per day, and once that limit is reached, new posts won't be allowed to be made.
2.2. Make a bot that actively creates new threads and fills them with images of lolis
2.3. Put a disclaimer stating that if you post on /pol/ you are a retard for EVERY post made.
>>

You're right, Hiro should send a cease and desist to Desuarchive and all the other archive sites because people will use them to track filenames and link posters to posts they made in the past.

Half of the daily shit is for mainstream shounen series. Again, that's one chapter a day for 300-500 ch long series that everyone already knows about. Storytimes have been shit for quite a while.

That's good, we should have more things like that and less things like IDs which erode anonymity. Filename stripping might not be enough if IDs become a thing though, if the same groups of images are made by a single ID in any thread, you could infer that it's the same person.

Okay, so putting aside that it makes all of that more difficult, what about every newfaggot or casual poster who is completely clueless? They have to find out the hard way that they need to scrub everything just so we can satisfy your urge to ID people and not even stop the spam? That is retarded.

>>
>>283423214
>it makes all of that more difficult
For you, maybe. It's extremely easy for anyone who truly wants to remain anonymous. I already walk on eggshells and make sure I don't post in a way that will out me across threads or boards. Thread IDs wouldn't affect me.
>what about every newfaggot or casual poster who is completely clueless
Not my problem, if you're that retarded then get fucked.
>not even stop the spam
Greatly reduce and hinder it nonetheless.
>>283423201
Think of it as a form of gatekeeping. Those that can keep up can post comfortably and carefree, those who can't are subject to be publicly ridiculed.
>>
>>283422814

Worse. Never mind what idiotic policies he might adopt around here, the sole fact that it would attract an enormous amount of Musk fanboys would make the whole site decline in quality.

It doesn't even do that on the boards here that have them. Also you can already just change IDs if you know the basics when posting on the boards here that have them.
>>

i've suspected this about some anons, that they're too thin-skinned to handle some downvotes

>>
>>283423291
Yet I don't see you putting a unique name into your Name field either. If you actually did care about being anonymous you'd put in the slightest effort. You're just a casual anonymous.
>>283423348
Boards like /pol/ have a lot worst problems than samefagging. The main problems /pol/ has and the main problems /a/ has are extremely wildly incomparable. You're not even taking into account how even shittier that shithole would be without IDs.
>just change IDs if you know the basics when posting on the boards here that have them
And it'd be obvious if you immediately start spamming on a 1pbtid which people will then filter, combined with annoying captchas for IP hopping there's more ways for spam to be deterred.
>>283423357
>that there will be problems but you just do not care because they will not hurt you specifically
Correct, problems for the retards. If you want to maintain even a semblance of quality you need gatekeeping.

Mods host this site because they make a lot of money on it. Chief mod rapeape rakes in around 500k a year in ad money and possibly glowie cash while jannies do all the work for free.
There's speculation from ex staffers that the reason for no show jannies and why only blatant porn and racism (against certain groups) gets banned is due the fact that rampant shitposting is still site engagement and thus allowed unofficially to help with falling userbase (a shitposters spamming on several ips still count for more "anons" than a good anon) and keep the income up.
They even fired the 2 decades long chief programmer a while before the hack to cut costs from their paychecks

IDs should only appear after you make a lot of posts in rapid succesion, or if the ratio of your posts overall in the thread is considerably big. Even then, it should not be too obvious: like, moving the cursor over the post number reveals the temporary ID if you're a spamming faggot, or something like that
That way you can safeguard anonymous posting while discouraging retarded shiposters by making them easier to find with much less schizoposting, and it doesn't disincentivize nice slow threads too much either.

I'm an ignorant about computing/IT but I suppose it's because of the website being re-designed to the Halloween theme thing. Notice some threads and even the catalog of the board still remain the original /a/ theme.
