Why do weebs seem to hold much lower standards for manga/anime than they do for anything else? Give them a mildly interesting premise and they will cope their way through bad art, design, dialogue and plot up until the predictably underwhelming ending sets the community on fire for a week or so

Because a huge chunk of us don't actually have any taste or standards, and just define themselves by being weebs
>>
>>283449787
>weebs
this is normalfags in general
>>
They don't; other modern media is just worse.
>>
>>283449787
Chainsaw Man is kino though?
>>
>>283449787
There are simply lower expectations for youth entertainment and there's nothing wrong with that, if you don't like it then you can always enjoy artistic media for adults
>>
>>283449787
all media is shit doughbeit
>>
It's as with a large part of normies who only enjoy marvel slop, etc.: they don't read much, they don't watch particularly many or interesting movies, they don't listen to a breadth of music, save for dog shit vidya or anime OSTs, they don't seek out other art forms, be it in the institutional or experimental context, etc. Simply put, and despite the phrase's redundancy atp, they don't touch grass. There is no desire to go out and experience more art or just life in general. How do you expect someone with the wants and needs of an underdeveloped teenager (gooning and wallowing in self pity) to be any different or hold any semblance of an artistic standard?
>>
>>283449787
Same reason "gamers" play shit coomer games

This describes pop culture in general. That's literally what makes it pop culture in the first place.
>>
>>283449787
Are you talking about popular ones? Most people have low standards because not everyone have time to invest finding a good show. This happens with every type of media thought
>>
>>283449871
The term weeb was coined in 4chan, retard

Because they're trying to escape reality. Perfect Blue is probably the only somewhat decent Anime thriller, but compared to western thrillers like Memento, Se7en, or even The Sixth Sense it's pretty much a B-movie at best.

Chenso man is the Emilia Perez of animanga.

Perfect Blue is better than all of these.

I drop it; only the craziest "sunk cost" shonenfag fans follow a series to the end if it gets to that point rather than checking the last chapter later. Conversely, those that do become the "community" as per the anthropic principle.

Weebs are also extremely delusional, evidence in thread.

buddy, I know you are frustrated that don't like your shitty blockbusters, but can't you try naming a film made for grown ups?

funny you mention that, since isekaislop is basically the same type of garbage, just signicantly worse.

otaku will watch/read anything if it is cute girl slop

Idiotic thread.

I love when /tv/ users try to pull superiority and then reveal that they have the same basic taste they cry against.

i like anime so i dont care how it compares to other media
i think if you are constanly thinking critically about something like that you arent really enjoying watching it

this is how bronies are born

Cynically: because they don't get the deeper nuances or advanced plots and multifaceted characters of more complex mediums, so they don't get as much satisfaction as they'd do from something that's the equivalent of pre-chewed baby food.

Realistically: If being a weeb is a part of your identity then watching and enjoying anime becomes important for your own self image and an activity that is less based around the actual enjoyment of the content and more about identity creation as well as a necessary activity for later interaction with other members of the community.

Optimistically: As they've consumed more of the medium than a regular their understanding of it has also increased, allowing them to see past the "fake" shallowness and realize the true genius of shows like chainsaw man, kill la kill, and code geass.
>>
>>283451917
>Memento, or even The Sixth
embarassing.
Chinatown, Burning, M, Usual Suspects, Heat were right there.
>>
Don't drag /tv/ into this. I kind of respect them for not worshipping the Chinks even though they have the best Chinkshit, that makes the situation hilarious
>>
I tend to like most media I watch or read. Maybe that means I have no taste, but I still am able to discriminate between things I like more or less, and every once in a while I'll come across something I do actually dislike. And I do think this post >>283450386 is partially right. I do think there's a decent chunk of people who watch anime or read manga exclusively and don't watch live action movies or read books and such. I don't read books too often but I've been getting back into watching movies, typically one a week, along with watching anime and reading manga. People only have a certain amount of free time though so if you don't have much free time, it's difficult to do other things on top of watching anime/reading manga.

That being said, pretending that most people into books, movies, or music don't stick with lower level stuff is complete delusion. There seems to be a misunderstanding on /a/ that something being a live action movie or a book makes it automatically high art. That may just be a symptom of the same kind of thing of people who watch anime and read manga not having much experience in other mediums.

Why do Hollywood shills come here to cope about their industry failing? The Reze movie is better than any trash to come out of Shartistan in ages. American media is in a permanent state of cultural decline.
>>
>>283449787
I'd humor this more but you say this like other media customers have high standards, when they don't
>>
>>283456216
That's film noir, not western.
