been watching cartoons my whole life, anime too, dont really care if its anime or not, i just like stuff with good story and characters, started watching old ovas lately and holy shit theyre so much better than the new crap, no copy paste half demon loser mc or dumb harem bullshit, feels like most anime fans only care about the same generic trash, go watch angel densetsu or bebop highschool or whatever, they go hard
Good stories usually don't make it to anime because they don't have mass appeal. You are robbing yourself by watching adverts. If the anime you are watching isn't anime first, it's quite literally an ad for the manga

90% of the time I watch an 80s or 90s OVA it's mediocre at best. I like longer form TV series (and manga) more often than not.
Old stuff was not better. All the garbage was forgotten and faded into obscurity, as garbage always does.
