Wace's version was then reiterated by numerous other French authors over the years which eventually was compiled and edited by Malory in Le Morte D'Arthur which took many of those elements and "refined" them for example by making the traitoress Morgan instead of Guinevere. This is also why in that version, Morgan - previously "just" Arthur's sister - was also his lover at one point. Anyway he also made a lot of other changes, and Arthur being double-killed with Mordred was also an invention of Mallory, hence the name of his compilation ("The Death of Arthur").
