Definitely a messy debut, but can't say I'm not hooked. It does feel like the author didn't know if he was going to be serialized in Jump or Jump+ with the absolute tonal whiplash; and a series about mercantilism where our main hero have effectively infinite funds, AND we are meant to support the race that are pretty much children that never want to kickstart a real military or even look at a "fellow" elf in his EARS (the fact they are just clip-ons is infuriating, couldn't even just magic them into shape...); it is all just...too much to dwell on. But the intended action and stakes are pretty intriguing and I like the tech level humanity shot up to (even if it makes no sense when their main rivals can't even handle the idea of animal husbandry and horse grooming). It's not the worst new manga introduced in the past few weeks, but definitely not a strong one so far. Not one to make up killing off Sirens Won't Sing For You...

It's okay for one entire race to be good and another to be evil, this is a strength of fantasy that no other genre can pull off without becoming cringe or political. Frieren shows that there's a huge demand for archetypical, unrealistic, larger than life characters.

This has great potential. That author needs to turn it into a tragic story of greed perverting the friendly and peaceful elves and making them worse than the humans they fought against because greed corrupts and destroys all. But this message might be too painful for certain people who keep increasing their influence in Japan.
