What's the consensus on the watch order?

Chronological is how you should watch it and how they aired it for season 2. Broadcast order was for giving the show some artistic flair because they didn't know if they'd animate more of it. It doesn't make sense to watch it in broadcast order now that we have S2 and Disappearance.
The patrician watch order is the first season in broadcast order then stop there.
Watch the 2006 version in broadcast order, then the 2009 version (all 28 episodes) in chronological order, and finally the movie.

If broadcast order is the correct one why are the episode ordered chronologically? The broadcast order is fine as something to experience once but it's not the definitive way to watch it.

I watched it in broadcast order and it was hard for me to follow and understand. I'll watch it in chronological order during my rewatch (including all of Endless Eight again) and hopefully it will be able to have a better effect on me when I do.
