What the hell, this is like way better than road to the erdtree
>>283528490Its a fun little series. One of the worst parts of any Fromsoft game is that no characters ever really feel alive or that they do things other than sit around until its time for them to kill themselves or die otherwise. The little stories in this that actually give some characterization or personality to the cast, even if they're overly cutesy and comical, are pleasant.
>>283528847The character in shadow of the erdtree were some of the best they've made imo, mainly Ansbach and Thiollier
>>283531027Ansbach was the best npc in Elden Ring, I think. Actually felt like he had had a life and his own goals.
>>283531027Shadow of the Erdtree basically had a fundamentally different format to the base game. It really only works if you play it linearly and focus on the narrative of why you're going places or doing things. You can't even just kill certain NPCs out of order with the plot. It is the closest to a plot driven game in the Souls series, so far. I think that is why it feels so different to play from stock Elden Ring. Before the DLC, you can basically go anywhere you want after you get through the tutorial, and the game accommodates that or at least the NPC quests that break feel so inconsequential that it doesn't matter if you do. But in the DLC, if you don't clear dungeons in the order that is intended, you get a disjointed feeling instead. It feels like actually sequence breaking in a normal story driven title. But because of that, they actually could make NPCs with more than one personality trait. Ansbach feels like an actual dude. You get a real understanding for who Leda is as a woman. I don't know what the next real Souls game will look like, but I think a few currents in how Fromsoft's game design philosophy is changing will come to a head in it.
>>283528490The most memorable part of Elden Ring for me was finding the cotton item in Mountaintop of Giants. In front of it was a message that said "possibly dark".
>>283532725Just do what sekiro did? Let you have small conversations with the main cast where they talk about themselves for a bit?
>>283534734Sekiro is notably linear and story driven. It can't even be called a Souls game.
