SnK was a multi-layered years in the making story that took itself relatively seriously and was loved by its fans for its humanistic characters and very thorough / well-planned plot mechanics. It is a masterclass in pacing and it ties up all its themes and plot points nicely in the end, even referencing the very first chapter in the finale. Denji has a clear character arc, the characters all have clear motivations (even a lot of the side characters), the wider lore is enough to generate a great deal of intrigue without giving too much away, only what is necessary. People should give part 1 credit where its due.
