Hori could barely write the main villains well so I guess you can't be surprised, but it really sticks out like a sore thumb.

Deku isn’t bad for the most part. His psychological need to infantilize Shigaraki and attempt to give him redemption is pretty comical. He was pretty crafty in the first few seasons, and passable for the rest. The cuck meme doesn’t apply to him (other than losing his powers maybe before Hori changed him to getting a power suit).
