Do you think modern readers have a proper appreciation for the classics and history of manga?
>>283612275Even with modern remakes, the vast majority of modern audiences aren't going to care about works from the 60s and 70s. It doesn't matter how influential they were.
>>283612275Modern readers only care for parasocial relationships with 2D characters. They couldn't care less about the history of the medium
>>283612275No, obviously. There's plenty of translations these days, but still a lot of major stuff missing, and appreciation is pathetically low. There's a bunch of incredibly good and interesting manga starting from around mid to late 60s. But modern readers are in this medium for the crap they are already used to, and it's not going to get better in that sense. Best you get is a handful checkmark/cred-seeking retards with zero appreciation. At least online.
>>283612275Sadly, no
>>283612275No
>>283612275Modern readers can't even fucking spell correctly, meaning they probably can't read correctly either, OP. So no, they don't have a proper appreciation of fucking anything.
>>283612275Yeah, far more than fag boomers did. Devilman and Ashita no Joe only recently got official translations due to the demand from the current generation.
>>283614783Devilman has since fallen out of print sadly
>>283612275Only modern female readers do.
>>283612275Dororo was pretty dull. The thing manga of that era did where they did a lot of looney tunes fourth wall breaking comedy undercuts the otherwise self-serious plots
>>283616981That was mostly Tezuka.
A "proper appreciation" isn't being an old good new bad fag and having no independent thought of your own like a lot of people on /a/.
>>283618338When did I say new bad. I think dismissing older stuff is just as annoying
>>283618338If the new manga and anime don't have the ideas from old manga I like then they're bad.
>>283612275no, and thats unironically a good thing given the state of the modern reader
Devilman was so kino and I was distraught to find out it was a total fluke.Every sequel he wrote was dogshit :'(
>>283612275Its insane how good the astro boy manga is until the last few volumes where it goes full schizoid, its just incredible storywise and it obliterates 99% of manga out there in terms of quality
>>283619158A few of the arcs are good but I don't know how you could consider it better than 99% of manga. It doesn't even compare to a lot of Tezuka's later stuff.
>>283616981>The thing manga of that era did where they did a lot of looney tunes fourth wall breaking comedy undercuts the otherwise self-serious plotsI love it
>>283619277>A few of the arcs are good but I don't know how you could consider it better than 99% of manga. It doesn't even compare to a lot of Tezuka's later stuff.is a masterpiece
>>283612583We still need 009 translations, same for Galaxy Express 999
>>283619277it just has something about it that's missing almost everywhere, or maybe i just like older manga writing a lot more for some reason, its just that awesome
>>283619397lol its translated in french, total baguette victory
>>283619436>lol its translated in french, total baguette victoryEverything is translated to French, what is your point?
>>283612275idk but fujiko fujio has a lot of kino shit
>>283619472i just felt like it
>>283619472Everything? I get the French have their fair share of weeaboos, but I want to know how deep the rabbit hole goes.
>>283619557its not just manga its comics in general too because they have the french stuff obviously but almost all the other stuff translated as well, which makes twice the amount of comics youd find anywhere else
>>283619397How is gun frontier fully translated but ge999 isnt?
>>283620211>How is gun frontier fully translated but ge999 isnt?Same reason Arata is untranslated
>>283620342>Same reason Arata is untranslatedSo many fun Manga
>>283618727violence jack was good
>>283618727>Every sequel he wrote was dogshit :'(TAKE THAT BACK!
>>283618727You mean sequels to devilman or anything else go nagai made?
>>283618727Not all of them
>>283615935Of course. No one on here buys physical manga outside of the people who can read moonrunes and in that case they're just getting it from Amazon upt. Own ~250 volumes of manga
>>283612275Depends on what you mean by "modern". 17th century onward?
>>283622608>Depends on what you mean by "modern". 17th century onward? This
>>283619397009 seems like it was mostly translated but it might be hard to find the way it's scattered around.
>>283612275nomodern readers use their phones to read manga
>>283618727Grimoire is pretty good.Devilman Lady is... not good, but kino.
