Okay, this OVA was pure misery porn and the MC was kind of a fucking dick, really. He accepted Shirō's offer to surrender his life in return for the lives of Christian women and children, but Shirō gets tricked, and then becomes possessed by the devil I suppose? So that makes the whole deal moot then? What in the fuck? Then the Shogun's forces end up murdering every single christian anyway.

I don't know, but for some reason I think that the creator of this OVA really fucking despised Christianity. Like, you can see the hatred through all those visceral scenes of carnage and torture of Christian followers. Its's as subtle as the fucking Anti-American sentiment in Genocyber & Angel Cop, that is to say, not subtle at all.

Also, what the fuck is up with the clifhanger? I wanted to see how it ends after ep 2
>>

The ultraviolent OVA genre was already on its last steps. In fact, it only got an episode 2 because it was popular in America and that was because the distributors sold it as a Ninja Scroll sequel
>>

Watching this as an edgy teenager was orgasmic.

>In fact, it only got an episode 2 because it was popular in America

Source for this? It was supposed to get 6 episodes but ''was ultimately discontinued following a real-life crime incident.'' I wonder what that was all about?

Isn't that backwards? It's to show injustice against Christians to make you angry.
>Its's as subtle as the fucking Anti-American sentiment in Genocyber & Angel Cop, that is to say, not subtle at all.
Again, missing the point. Those weren't anti-American. They were anti-Jew.

>The ultraviolent OVA genre was already on its last steps

The OVA in general was on its last steps, really. 90% of the current Hulu & Crunchyroll zoom-zoom audience does not even knows what that term stands for.

>They were anti-Jew.
Okay I give it to you that Angel cop was anti-jew. But Genocyber was anti-American. Episodes 2 & 3 are literally a critique of operation Desert storm and US invasion of Iraq in 1991.
>>

Being against the US militar complex mean to be anti-American?
>>
>>283613050
Japan continued making OVAs until the mids 00s, even if sporadically, but this specific subgenre of edgy gorefest was already passe when Ninja Resurrection was made
>>
>>283613168
Japanese didn't knew what the ''military industrial complex'' was, anon. They saw ''Desert storm'' as an invasion and incursion against sovereign territory. You can read about how this changed the perception of America in the eyes of the Japanese in the early 90's.
>>
>>283613235
In any case, Japan has many valid reasons to be anti-American. Maybe things will get better when the American bases are closed but to be fair America is on its last days as a global empire
>>
>>283613050
High budget OVAs. We still got OVAs even during the 10s, but by that point they often looked no better than tv episodes, and were often just made as DVD/BD box bonuses rather than standalone releases.

Such as?
>Maybe things will get better when the American bases are closed
No, they won't.
>America is on its last days as a global empire
Not at all. And you really think that China, a nation that Japan literally rampaged through during WW2, is going to treat them any better?
>>
>>283613285
I think only schizo boomers still hate America. Like the Shoujo Tsubaki director.
>>
>>283613395
Still not as bad as Baki's writer Keisuke Itagaki. One of that manga's volumes has Yuujiro Hanma making fun of G.W Bush for running America like a moron (granted he did, but still)
>>
>>283613489
He also rapes Trump.

Firstly, the creator didn't make anything. The story is from a novel.
Secondly, christianity has always been seen as a subversive force in Japan.
Thirdly, the shogunate really did kill 37.000 christians (including ronins and peasants who revolted.)

I learned about this from Fate/Apocrypha. I also learned that Jack The Ripper was actually the combined soul amalgamation of a hundred little homeless girls.

Oda and a bunch of feudal lords may have been, but Iemitsu wasn't.
Shiro Amakusa is often portrayed as a warlock or a demon.

>>283614083
OVAs would have been good if it adapted the entire story, actually it would have been better if it was much more faithful.

Ninja Resurrection was only titled this way in English in a bizarre attempt to capitalize on Ninja Scroll's success simply because they vaguely share some ninjas and supernatural techniques.

The original title in Japan is Makai Tensho (Demon Resurrection), and it was based on a novel. I guess the OVA wasn't very popular so the rest of the plot wasn't adapted.
