People will keep pointing to them and asking why anime is not 'manly' anymore, not realizing that they are decade-specific (80s was defined by ultramasculine media like Predator, Terminator, Rambo, etc) and the Japanese were just following the trends of the time. The cutesy style of anime was already present going as far back as Tezuka and they simply reverted to it as soon as the ultramasculine trend was over.
