Frieren is literally the same thing as To Your Eternity. I don't get why modern mangaka keeps doing this. The amount of plagiarism in the manga industry is insane. Even China is trying out new ideas instead of rehashing the same shit over and over. There's barely any originality left, just endless generic isekai and clones of each other.
>inb4 butthurt Frieren fans start malding
Go watch To Your Eternity first, then come back and tell me it's not the same story.

There is no original work, everybody copies off each other
Tolkien stole all his ideas from Finnish mythology, mixed with Beowulf and repackaged it for 20th century Anglo
>>
>>283622660
There's no such thing as a new story, just a new storyteller
I don't think Frieren has much to apologize for
That being said, I don't excuse the endless deluge of isekai slop like holy shit it's so uncreative, how does someone even write that without just dropping the pen and asking what the hell they're doing this for if they aren't even going to try
>>

>Frieren is literally the same thing as To Your Eternity
It's closer to Shinsekai yori than to Fumetsu
>>
every work of human imagination builds upon what was previously seen, told, written or experienced. since forever and always forevermore.

>Closer to Shinsekai Yori
Explain further.
Depending on your answer I may actually watch an episode of Frieren.
>>
>>283622918
Honestly, saying it's anything like SSY at all is probably extremely generous for Frieren. But if an SSY fan watches it, they should be able to see a clear influence.

Your favorite manga/anime also copied from a lot of works. There is simply no such thing as purely original work.
>>
Nearly everything within the sortiment of manga/anime is some sort of trend-chaser. Editors are well known to suggest themes to authors/artists instead of the latter coming up with it.

its closer to Dragon Ball(not z) than it is to Fumetsu

OP will learn that eventually it all comes down to presentation and execution of the premise instead of hanging by its novelty.

i read ~15 chapters of this and liked it but dropped for some reason. is it worth picking up again?

Dunno why would you drop it at that point? But yeah I guess you can continue from there.

im asking if the series as a whole is worth reading

To your eternity was much better than Freiren.

Freiren feels like a oneshot idea that got stretched out into a seemingly endless shonen manga mould. Doesn't really feel like anything's really progressed in either the story or the character arcs. The main characters just perpetually bumble into new boring story arcs and solve them with zero fanfare.

99% of the characters coming across like deadpan robots doesn't help.

I tried, but it was abysmal.

I don't know what's worth for you. You already dropped it so maybe it's not worth your time. As for me, Ramune's autism is worth my time.
>>
I haven’t watched this show yet, but I know it’s going to be really great because all the hate it gets is as shallow as it can be
>>
>>283624472
it's not tho. any avg isekai or even shounen brvtally mogs this tryhard trash. only ironic weebs and pseudo-intellectuals like this moeshit garbage

Therefore there is a "previously never seen" somewhere.

I wonder how many of these obvious (if you know both works) similarities I'm missing all the time.
It's the same with vidya OSTs. Cool soundtrack? But oh, it's an almost 1:1 copy of Yngwie Malmsteen.
>>
>>283624737
care to expand?
I can't see the similarities, not in genre, in tone, in pacing or even the premise.
>>
>>283624559
Way to double down on "all the hate it gets is as shallow as it can be".
>>
>>283624944
>it's deep because characters die from old age
It's actually Frieren that's shallow.
>>
>>283622660
>Frieren is literally the same thing as To Your Eternity
I don't see it. The only notable parallel is pondering immortality, but in Fumetsu it slowly creeps in as it goes on and on, while in Frieren it's viewed as a snapshot from later on.

>Tolkien stole all his ideas from Finnish mythology, mixed with Beowulf and repackaged it for 20th century Anglo
He also copied several things from the Sienkiewicz trilogy, the most notable is Boromir's death. Ironically the movies actually changed that particular scene by adding the movie-original character Lurtz there, which gives further credence to the idea.

I dropped To your eternity after the 3 first arcs were literally the same shit.
1- introduce cute new characters
2-have a couple of episodes of stuff going well so you get emotionally invested
3-they die
4-go to 1
>>
>>283625934
>>283622698
That's really interesting and I had no idea about any of that. Would you say Tolkien is a base of most TTRPG or typical isekai JRPG worlds at all though?
also, feel free to report for off topic but I made a group as a secondary place to post what you're enjoying and invite anons sometimes. If you're okay with being genuine and kind to each other you can take a look here, it's much easier than it seems. pastebin.com/RFk9GRmH

>Go watch To Your Eternity first, then come back and tell me it's not the same story.
It's not the same story.
>>
Did you know Code Geass is just a really shitty ripoff of another mecha anime made in 1979? Did you know Lelouche is just a really shitty copy of another character that is famous for having a bunch of shitty copies of him?
>>
Why do you think there are a minimum of 2 or 3 daily threads with the same picture shitting on Frieren?
Is it really impossible for tourist-filled modern /a/ to ignore obvious troll threads?
