What's the difference between Eastern retcons and Western retcons that allow the former to go down easier? Eastern media is just as guilty of constantly retconning things as Western media, but its retcons don't get nearly as many complaints.
i dunno mani dunno
Can you give a single fucking example instead of talking in generalizations assuming everyone knows exactly what you mean while not willing to reveal the specific time it happened that made you write a shitty post on 4chan?
>>283626903Because oriental comic series are written by a single individual, compared to the 95 billion writers involved in a single occidental IP.
>>283626903Anon you are being way too vague, we need examples to know what are you talking about.
>>283626903If you're talking about comic books, then the issue is mostly that western retcons involve the 34th writer of a series retconning out elements from the earlier writers' material he doesn't like, then a couple years later another writer retcons his retcons, etc etc. With manga, you have one author retconning shit because he actually changed his mind and feels the retcon benefits his story.
>>283626903I guess asians generally aren't attached to a dogmatic canon because they aren't Christians
What the fuck are you talking about, you hear WAY more criticism about Japanese retcons than western ones. Watch any random westoid movie. Nothing at all is foreshadowed. Everyone loves Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back yet randomly out of nowhere "lol the villain is the main character's father". Meanwhile even Narutard plot twists have better foreshadowing, yet that series catches unending flak for its asspulls.
>>283626903That's literally not true.
>>283628193>Tailed Beasts are never even alluded to in Part 1, Shukaku and the Nine Tails were two completely unrelated demons, the former being the ghost of a monk>Gaara's entire backstory getting retconned so that his uncle hating him is a lie>Madara transplanting his Rinnegan eyes into Nagato instead of Nagato just awakening it
>>283626903what made you even think of this
>>283626903As said before that's vague. I might presume it's about the cape industry. In cape the same IP keeps going for 80 yrs and randomly resets, that's a problem of cape specifically being an oddity, it's that excessive so comparing to anything else that'll look good.
>>283630799Rebooting something and retconning it are two completely different things
Primarily it’s authorial intent when you’re talking about comic books written by a dozen different writers at a time. Some authors might do some utterly massive retcons, only to have said retcons get retconned. Some characters might even just be a battleground for two writers to get into petty squabbles over.
>>283630823>completely differentIf you pay attention they're not that different. A franchise goes on long and you need to rewrite that a character's power is X not Y. vs. You write the entire thing again and character's power is X not Y. It's a symptom of the same thing (it's been going on for too long and it's badly planned slop).
