The power gain from the gates is clearly exponential, not linear. 4 gates is NOT half of 8 gates. Kakashi once opens 1 or 2 for a slight power boost just so he could finish climbing a mountain with one arm. 3 gates was enough to let Lee smack around Gaara like a bitch. 7 Gates was just enough to no diff Kisame, while 8 was suddenly enough to no diff Madara until it killed the user.
