One Piece had never been the kind of manga that tried to break too much of the mold. I like G5 but I understand why many don't. I was very iffy on the nika stuff until egghead and elbaf. The anime does make it worse on average since they have to pad out the gags so much. maybe in 20 years witpiece will fix it.
In principle, I like the Looney Tunes stuff, it's clearly not only paying homage to the golden age of american animation, but more directly to Tezuka's generation who were deeply influenced by Hanna-Barbera, Fleischer WB, Disney, etc. It's the lore baggage that's soured me on G5 after the initial reveal, paired with the fact that Oda is couching every appearance of G5 im month-long flashbacks now, trying to stuff in as much background information as he possibly can. I get why he does it, he set himself up for it after all. But if Luffy doesn't care about anything but fighting funnily anymore, why should I? Toriyama, whether instinctively or intentionally, understood this. Oda simply doesn't land the stylistic clash of overly serious history-spanning satanic conspiracy contrasted with the self-aware cartoon protagonist who just doesn't care at all.

Some of the issues with "why didn't they destroy Luffy earlier" may be quelled by the fact that although for us, it seems like they've had a long time, in the series, Luffy had appeared and then became huge within a month or two, then disappeared for two years and now it's only a few weeks to a month later and this is happening. Only some of the issues though, because they had the best opportunity to kill him at Marineford with a special order. On the other hand, "it's only a rumor", but on the other other hand, if a rumor could have that impact, wouldn't you act anyway, but on the other other other hand (three arm tribe), they didn't know Luffy was at Marineford until he was there, and it's questionable that they could have sent an order to have the admirals solely kill Luffy when that would distract them from Whitebeard. Perhaps we can view it like an issue that has the potential to be huge, so you're nervously side-eyeing it, but other things are more important right this very minute. In retrospect, a lot of Imu's actions are very schizophrenic, since he's afraid of awakening Joyboy by pressuring things too much, but also afraid Joyboy will emerge anyway, so he tries to have his men handle things until he becomes too frustrated and jumps in. But even then, as we've seen with Rocks, he infected him but then escaped once he thought his lineage was destroyed. He didn't stay to fight. Everything about the Gorosei and Imu is that they seem desperate to have the system they set up work, and they only intervene when they feel they really really have to, and now it's the final war and the old system is destroyed, so there is some degree of separation of this being a new circumstance. So you can kind of justify all this, but it's written very awkwardly so it makes the Gorosei look foolish.
