How do you anons feel about showing your power level in public?Do you at least are open with your family and friends about liking anime/manga? Or do you hide it to everyone?
Never.I will take all of this into my grave.
>talk to coworker about anime>he complains about sexualizing JKs>pretend to be a shounenfag so he won't judge me>this week he pointed out how hot was hayasaka from kaguyaThis normalfag can't criticize me anymore!
>>283899045Don't even bother discussing anime with outsiders. it's horrendous and a waste of time.
I always do but nobody gets my references.
Yeah I'm open about my hobbies, these days both manga and anime is commonly accepted so no need to be weirda bout it. Some of my coworkers lit up when I sent a TTGL-meme in a chat, and when I go on dates manga/anime is always an interest/hobby that people are interested in and positive about. There's a clear difference from 5-10 years ago. Same with video games. But obviously I'm not gonna tell them I hang out here, or about every manga I've read
>>283898586I import manga and have a scroll hung behind me so...
>>283898586Only have a scant few pieces of clothing and even then if you don’t know what it is the design is still cool.
Only showed 100% to one person and she used it against me. I keep it 40% for my day to day and it scales from there to about 85% for those I trust the most.
>>283898586Bro I'm over 30At this point I've showed my coworkers pics of my BJD dolls and plushes and everything, I don't give a fuck. That said whenever they ask "Do you watch anime? What are you watching?" I ask "What do YOU like?" because I know they're gonna say KnY, OPM, etc and there'll be no point in telling them "I'm watching princession orchestra" only to have them look at me dumbfounded "I don't know that one", why of course you don't you normalfag.
>>283901363i opened up 10% to a girl and even that didn't go well. it's all so tiring
There's no point for me to hide my power level; my bedroom speaks for itself.
>>283898586I don't really care. I remember this one time I was watching Maid Dragon on my breaks at work and no one made fun of me(that I know of). Someone even came up to me and said they're favorite character was Lucoa. And another time a coworker gave me a Demon Slayer hoodie for Christmas. People are chill when you're an open book. I think I would be more wary of someone who is on guard all the time. It makes me think they're into something illegal.
Never have revealed my powerlevel in all my 35 years of life and 20 years of watching animu and reading mango. Not one person knows.
>>283898586where's the gangrape follow up
I don't exactly hide my power level, but if I'm unable to relate to others I just don't say anything about it. Like, none of my friends have watched the full Gundam franchise like I have, or seen Gunbuster and Patlabor, read Mieruko-chan or Tengoku Daimakyō or anything relating to things I like. They're more interested in DnD, which I don't really care about. So I cope by shutting up and letting them rant and talk about their interests, cause I have the patience and tolerance for that, while knowing they'd be completely uninterested in the things I'm interested in.
>>283898586I dont show my powerlevel in public. Sometimes I had let it leak a little but thats it. I daresay we oldfags, or at least most of us are wired differently, because we came from an era where anime was frowned upon and every fucking normalfag felt with the right to do every type of remarks about your entertainment choices.I do comment anime with people that I know that like anime, which are more and more these days, but even so, I tend to restrain myself because some of the "new era" fans are even more annoying than those pestering fans in the past, or worse, some are conflicted moralfags that try to lure you into discussions. So outside conventions (its been years since i assisted to those) or some gatherings, I do not show my powerlevel.
>>283900432This depends I think. I am rural white working class and I'd never share it with any one of my friends or people I work with. Also I don't know a single one that didn't give up videogames by the end of their teens. You'd get seen and judged as a massive weirdo if you liked 'cartoons' in your 20s and 30s unless it was The Simpsons or Family Guy (which I don't enjoy anyway). For some reason I have the idea in my head that this is less prevalent among middle class and/or university students or those that went. Like there are literally no nerds, or nerdiness, in my work/social (very limited social, mind you) enviroment. That's not to say there are hidden nerds like me, but outwardly it has to be adult/masculine/work & money earning related interests.
>>283903269>I daresay we oldfags, or at least most of us are wired differently, because we came from an era where anime was frowned uponThis. It used to be so on /a/ as well. We shat on those who revealed powerlevel in public, although that's largey because the sort that did were annoying weeaboos (i.e. "Japan is the greatest place on earth and Naruto is the pinnacle of human achievement" - a greasy faggot sperglord who makes everyone at school cringe and wears a trenchcoat)
>Gun...dam?>Yeah I remember Gundam Wing back when it was on toonami>I've watched every dubbed Gundam series>I've watched all Gundam series>My birthday is the same day the colony dropped with Operation British. I usually go one level below what I can tell the average power level in the room is, so I'm mostly at 1 or 2 and even with girlfriend I'm at a 3 or 4. Only time I went full power was when I ran into a guy named Alex with a license plate RX78NT and he noticed I got the reference.
>>283898586I’m only open about it with my brother and very conservatively open about it with like 2 of my cousins. Have a few friends that I can mention Dragonball (even though I haven’t watched hardly any of it) or Naruto with. That’s about it.
>>283903216Those are all entry level shit that I guarantee you they've seen if they're nerdy enough to be interested in DnD. They just don't like listening to you talk because you are an eternal tourist in mind and spirit. I know guys like you.You are like walking MAL reviews. Pest.
>>283904404Doubt
>>283898586I dont care and i realize that im the normalfag now in ignorance since i havent kept up with the majority of newer anime post 2010.
>>283904495Undeniable reality
>>283904404Not that anon, but this reeks of projecting. In the past even some nerdy circles werent that intop anime. I also have acquaintances that played magic the gathering and did DnD, read comics, etc. One group were cool, but they werent into anime as deep as I am. The other group, they were super into anime, and also played DnD, read comics, etc. but some of them were annoying cretins that thought they knew so much about anime that their farts didnt smelled anymore. This, mind you, were in the 90's when some of us had to make pilgrimages to our nearest anime dealer / VHS bootlegger and get ADV copies of the stuff we liked. Every fandom has its annoying fucktards, and anime / manga is not a exception.
>>283898586That picture is wrong. The captions should be> Fitting into society> Being Tackle
>>283898586I'm up front about my interest in anime, its just a hobby like any other. The time for being embarrassed about watching 'nerd shit' stopped being relevant when the biggest film franchises were all superheroes and scifi and fantasy. I have tasteful anime figures on display, and a couple of pictures on the wall. I would go to conventions and do cosplay, and even non-nerds would take one look at my Gunbuster cosplay too big to fit through doors and go "Holy shit, thats you in there?"All things in moderation, if you go too hard on talking about obscure weeb shit with people who don't care about it you'll look like a fool. But thats no different from sperging out about the superbowl to people who can't even tell the difference between a discussion about baseball and soccer. Just know your audience and recognize if someone is supremely disinterested in the topic and wants to talk about something else. Its that easy.
>>283898586I have a Hidamari Sketch mousepad but I hide it when people come over
Every single person I've met who was openly into anime was unattractive.Yes, I am talking about women too.Yes, I do hide my powerlevel.
>>283905391I'm pretty attractive/in good shape and it's always fun (and a little sad) seeing people get confused or shocked when they hear that my main hobbies are ttrpgs, osrs, and manga. It's such a strong prejudice and established stereotype. Though it helps me identify boring/uninteresting people.
>>283905300Now I'm curious, can you post it anon?
>>283906447desu I haven't really used it in about a year since I moved.I got it when they had those custom $1 mousepad deals almost a decade ago.
>>283906741I also use Yuno's text jingle on my phone, but nobody's gonna pick up on that
>>283906741this is tame af. i thought it would be a tity pad or something. i doubt anyone would even notice it was there.
I'm super open about my power level, I'm often shocked that other people aren't.
My friend and brother knows to a degree and parents know that I am interested in "those chinese cartoons".Not gonna bring it up at work as all coworkers are blue collar near middle-aged men whose interests start and end at discussing football matches.
I feel basically zero urge to do so. None of my coworkers talk about anime and if they aren’t watching anime they definitely aren’t reading manga, so I have no reason to bring it up. My wife doesn’t have any interest in any of it either, but she also doesn’t give me any grief about it.
>>283907887>all coworkers are blue collar near middle-aged men whose interests start and end at discussing football matches. That sounds really nice
>>283909010>>283907887God, I read that and my mind immediately imagined some anime plot/setting>My blue collar near middle aged coworkers () who's only hobby is discussing football matches become victims of the TS Syndrome and now I'm the only man in the company!!!Something like that
>>283909608>()I tried to add the male symbol but it was deleted
>>283898586Nope, never revealing my power level to anyone except for maybe a fellow /a/non but I haven't met one irl.
>>283898586I had some anime shirts made for me a few years ago, one of them having picrel stamped, back when I was in college. For some reason, I think my parents hid those.
>>283907887>Not gonna bring it up at work as all coworkers are blue collar near middle-aged men whose interests start and end at discussing football matches.I thought I was the only one.
>>283898586I don't deny or hide being into anime, manga and games, but I don't go out of my way to talk about them either. Sometimes I watch anime at work during break time and that's it.
