They never really connect much at allTokio then reconnects with his family for one chapter before he decides to run away from home for a few years, showing that at least he still had a connection with them. You would expect to have him want to go back home after he gets back into town, or for his family to react when they learn he's a chojin, or for Tokio to keep thinking to himself he wants to visit home but he always keeps coming up with excuses to not do it out of guilt, so that it has impact when he regrets not coming home sooner when its too late. Like the emotional connections have always felt oddly detached in this story. Any sort of connection I expect him to have with them since they mattered originally just never really materializes, and now suddenly he cares when its too late to matter, just so he can feel grief over it. I assume they're going to save the sister because there's no real point otherwise, now that he understands loss he might value his relationships more. Maybe they'll have zombie girl bring his dad back, which Tokio isn't happy about.
