A manga that started out as "hey, let's visit a bunch of different worlds with drastically different settings in order to find Sakura's feathers and restore her memory!" and ended with "your clones are your parents who were trapped in interdimensional tube" isn't the best way to sell your manga to a new reader - I get it that you already have a CLAMP manga dedicated to the concept of "going on adventures and gathering MacGuffins" which is Cardcaptor Sakura, but the execution of Tsubasa's cryptic plot wasn't that great and the payoff at the end wasn't really worth the wait.What I can say without spoilers is that I can rewatch Holic's anime adaptation and enjoy it, but I can't say the same about Tsubasa's anime adaptation.

>>284080160Basically, you can take Tsubasa out of Holic and it still works because, like I said before, it's mostly about Japanese folklore, superstitions and supernatural stuff, and anime adaptations worked because all multiverse content wasn't that impactful. And yeah, by greatly reducing the cast (Yuuko, Kohane and Himawari basically don't exist in story anymore, it's just Watanuki, Doumeki, Mokona, Maru, Moro and supernatural beings now, and three shop mascots are cute but don't add much to the plot) the story just fell into very boring loop where stuff happens but not really and reader's being blueballed for eternity just like Watanuki (not to mention that Rei happens before the last chapter of Holic, so everyone knows Watanuki will still be waiting for Yuuko and Doumeki #154 still won't use the egg to end Watanuki's suffering).You can't take Tsubasa out of Tsubasa because it turns out it was always going to be convoluted and pretentious from the start. Second season looks miles better and I can't recall any QUALITY moment in OVAs, so I guess first season sold well enough to cover the costs for higher production value.And I might sound biased but I do prefer anime adaptation over the manga - anime kinda expands (and sometimes fixes) on some episodes from manga and make them a better experience, even if in some cases it's just filler episodes from manga (but this filler feels on par with Sailor Moon anime filler, aka stuff you actually enjoy because it fits characters). For example, I vastly prefer snowball fight in anime than in manga - adding Ame-warashi, Zashiki-warashi and Himawari to snowball brawl felt natural compared to manga where it's just Doumeki and Watanuki making some snowmen with Yuuko watching them... and then it's over.

By the end of the manga female readers end up commenting stuff like "omg poor thing", "he's such a nice person by always cooking and cleaning after Yuuko", "I hate Himawari that bitch, keep your cursed hands away from Watanuki" and some other cliche comments, but I do feel they like Doumeki way, way more. Lo and behold, Watanuki goes full cow mode for a day after that.As for fixing some story moments from manga anime outright drops Himawari's presence during lying woman's scenario - Watanuki never meets Himawari there and only finds lying woman walking towards the road (who actually survives truck-kun in this adaptation). It actually makes sense because by anime's release CLAMP have probably set the rules for Himawari's negative luck aura, so her inviting Watanuki to cafe and her patting him and grabbing his arm would make no sense later on - Himawari intentionally avoided Watanuki's one-on-one invitations and her physical touches would permanently fuck him up as early as Chapter 2.
