Why was Yugi so retarded?
>>
>>284066494
I'm more surprise Pegasus did not disqualify his ass
>>
>>284066533
Not like Pegasus was even there to do so. He didn't meet with the competitors until they were on the island.
Besides, there were a lot more blatant cases of cheating on Duelist Kingdom than that, like Mai's perfume cards and Bandit Keith outright taking his cronies' star chips by force.
>>
How many copies of Exodia exist in-universe? Like, we know there were four Blue Eyes. We know more than one copy of Exodia exists, even in just the Duel Monsters era, but I'm curious if Yugi could've gotten another set down the line if he really wanted to.
>>
>>284067039
I was reminded of Mais perfume cards when the FBI broke that rigged poker game recently
They were using a special ink with glasses that could see it
>>
>>284066494
yugi never bought a single card or booster pack his entire life. his grandpa owns a card shop, so he just gets all his shit for free. he legitimately does not understand the value of them outside of the silly little game
>>
>>284067264
Makes sense. Runs in the family too since his Granddpa valued his Blue Eyes solely for sentimental value than for monetary ones.

DURO MONSTA KADO
>>
>>284067103
I doubt they ever said but my assumption is that the pieces aren't quite as rare as blue eyes on their own but considering you need all five to actually use them, the functional rarity is exponentially higher
>>284067264
>>284067685
it clearly takes a backseat to the whole power of friendship thing (and is kinda undercut by his blatant hax) but there's an undercurrent to the entirety of yugioh about not being a slave to the meta. kaiba isn't successful because he bought the rarest card, he's successful because he's painfully autistic about his oneitis with that card

Modern Yugioh designs are terrible. Too robotic. Too much weird orbs and weird looking aura stuff. And of course too many waifus. I know that Yugioh always had many waifu cards since the beginning and even waifu archetypes like the harpies, amazons (both Mai's cards) and the valkyries (anime original filler) but it is too overwhelming nowadays and they look like generic waifu whores. Just look at this. She looks like a terrible FGO design. There is even a new card that looks like the Arknights character Surtr. Someone calculated something like 30% of modern archetypes or modern cards are some kind of waifus.

Like I said there were many waifu cards in the very beginning of Yugioh even in the first Konami Yugioh card game video game predating Dark Magician Girl but they weren't as overwhelming as it is nowdays and their designers were a lot better, not that generic more DnD like and old fantasy anime like.

I tried Master Duel and it is insane
I wonder if I could figure out how to actually make my deck playable. I try to copy one of the Cyber Dragon recommended deck. I
bought the starter deck for it and it was still terrible. I couldn't do anything against the opponents. Duel Links is more fun because you can fight against computer enemies.
I have to agreee with the solitaite statement.
>>
>>284068873
Prom Princess is cool though. There's only so many ways you can make an anime girl and Yugioh has 3000 different ones. A similar design is bound to pop up here and there.
>>

Although I find Raye kind of cute. I never watched her anime, Konami is competent in making Yugioh anime but her anime looks too much like a generic gacha one and seems too much heavily loaded with yuri.
>>
>>284069103
>>284069221
Raye is also not currently avaiable in the game from what I know.
>>
>>284069221
>too much heavily loaded with yuri.
Homoeroticism should be expected in YGO at this point.
>>
>>284069261
What? Raye has been in both Master Duel and Duel Links for ages. It's literally one of the most popular decks of all time.
>>
>>284069296
I saved both her recommended deck and the cyber dragon recommended deck for new deck building. I looked up where to find her card and it said currently not avaiable. I found the Cyber Dragons in their starter deck and they were also in the booster that had Cyber End Dragon on it.

I decided to play Yugioh again and I realized modern yugioh is fucking shit.
it takes like 10 minutes for your opponent to end his turn. He keeps summoning monster for an infinite amount of time.
>summon monster
>activate effect
>summon another monster
>summon xyz monster
>summon link monster
>activate effect
>summon monster from graveyard
>summon xyz monster
>activate effect
>summon another xyz monster
>fusion summon monster
>now you have 4 monsters with 3000+ ATK that can negate card effects once per turn
>battle phase
>attacks with all monster
>he keeps summoning link more monsters
Its all so lame. I literally sit there for 5-10 minutes waiting for my opponent to end his fucking turn.
And the duels only last for like 5 turns too (maybe me and my opponents are just too shit to last longer).
They should have stopped at xyz

>>284058296
When you think about it, it was a good way for Yugi to lose his I win button given how the Pharaoh's powers work, otherwise the whole tournament could have been about either the characters playing around Exodia or making you think "Yeah but he still got Exodia even if this plan fails".
>>
>>284069600
You generate an SR to get access to the secret pack. Sky strikers just got some serious fucking support in the previous pack so they are very strong
>>
>>284058296
How did Yugi win the tournament when his deck was all about delaying the match until Exodia was summoned? He was missing a full deck, while also having cards that did not have a means of creating a cohesive strategy together. He should have lost.
>>
>>284068873
I never noticed that she doesnt have forearms
>>
>>284068896
You’re yearning for a bygone art style more than finding fault with character design.
>>
>>284070540
Now that I think about it.
Would Yugi have been disqualified if he didn't have a full deck? Could you enter a tournament with less cards than the rules stated? Was there even a rule to begin with?
>>
>>284070191
Metaslop is not true yugioh. Duels used to have more interactions than I NEGATE YOU.
>>
>>284062109
Duelist Kingdom happened long before the ban list, and I don't even know if Exodia's ever been on it.
>>

I think yes. I have to look into the Duelist Kingdom cards rule but the 40 cards rule is there since day 1.

Canonically we've only seen one real one, but four people have used it in the past:

I'm not arguing about that, YGO meta has been disgusting right from the beginning (teleDAD, airblade turbo, Relinquished etc etc); just don't play competitively.
But summoning a million times per turn and doing overcomplicated nonsense combos is the main attraction of this game, at least for me. If you let your opponent create a doom-board with 6 negates, you aren't playing the game right.
>>
>>284069600
You're trying to generate her alt art which you have you roll for and not craft
>>
>>284070830
I guess he had back up cards.
He lost three of the Exodia pieces correct? I wonder what he grabbed to fill up those five empty slots, he sure as hell wasn't going to keep a bunch of useless Exodia pieces..
>>
>>284069845
You should try playing Genesys format, it does in fact stop at xyz.
>>
Was Exodia some super god or something in lore? He is a pain in the ass to summon, but instant win makes him technically a more powerful god summon than the other Egyptian deity cards.
>>
>>284070944
He was an overwhelmingly powerful Ka on par with the Egyptian Gods and so had to be sealed in five different stone tablets to keep him from running out of control. At the time the Blue-Eyes White Dragon was also nearly as strong. None of them could stand up to Zorc Necrophades though.

Yugi would, but only if Pegasus had taken his own tournament more seriously, which he didn't.
>>
>>284071037
I like how the moment Kaiba lost the Battle City tournament he threw a tantrum until the very last moment, from seething at Yugi to threatening to blow up the island before the finals were complete, to setting the detonation before everyone else could leave the island and retiring from dueling until he built Kaibaland, locking his deck and duel disk in the KaibaCorps vaults so he wouldn't be tempted.
>>
>>284066533
Like he cared the point was to set up a stage to get the puzzle and prove to the KaibaCorp board he was worth backing
>>
>>284071420
That's only in anime. In DSoD movie which is a continuation of the manga, he decides to create
>new holographic technology
>a space elevator
>a huge ass expedition to Egypt to find the temple where they had the ceremonial duel so he can get the millennium puzzle
>a quantum computer to solve the puzzle
>a big brother surveillance system to watch over the entire city which he controls
>a transport machine that uses the 8th Millennium to travel to the afterlife, which is basically a one way trip and because the living can't last long in the afterlife he's also slowly dying
All that just to get his salty rematch
>>
>>284071838
Do GX and 5DS still happen in the future of the manga? Earth's level of technology is rather high by DSoD, which fits for a distant future, but not for one that already had an established future.
>>

Pegasus stole his grandpa's soul.
>>
>>284068843
I don't pay attention to the card art. All I know is that the anime TV series had degraded into baby shit, when this was supposed to be the more adult alternative to Pokemon.
>>
>>284070986
Fun decks (e.g. Speedroid) can absolutely churn out multiple negates in turn 1 (e.g. 2 or 3 of the Clear Wing variants) without relying on any broken meta engine. They just won't be able to do it as reliably or with as many negates on the field as meta decks.
By the way, since you're avatarfagging as Joey: Red-Eyes decks have their own negate cards too.
>>
>>284071937
Didn't his gramps wager it in a game? Why did Yugi's grandpa accept a challenge from a weirdo like Pegasus?

Yes, in the manga you actually were only allowed to bring 40 cards into the island, the spares had to be left with the staff.
Which technically means Joey cheated by having Red Eyes.
>>
>>284070621
YGO was a negate fest a few years ago but Konami has actively tried to move towards more nuanced and layered interaction in recent formats. Occasionally cancer cards slip in (Pair-A-Dice Smasher, Artifact Mjollnir), but the meta has actually been pretty decent-to-good recently.
>>
>>284071906
I think so for GX. IiRC Duel Academy get brought up in the manga. I could be thinking about the R manga though. The GX manga is way more of a sequel to DM then the anime tough
>>

Weevil was lucky he pulled this shit on season 1. Had he done something like that on season zero Yami would have retaliated by making him play a shadow game and he would have never even reached the duel kingdom. Seriously, season zero Yami runs laps around Bakura and Marik.

Are there any good solo player video games for the XYZ, Pendulum, Link formats?
Yugioh used to have good video games for the original series, GX and 5D's. They are an easier way to learn the game and a few tactics.
I wonder why Pokemon only made two TCG video games (the original TCG one and a remake also for GBC that was only published in Japan). I wish Duel Masters had more staying power. I also loved that game. With Pokemon my only experience is the video game. I don't know much about Magic. Until recently I didn't even know that it had life points. no, Rush Duel is it's own thing (although Duel Links lets you play it)

Rush Duel is a Japan-only game with it's own cards (picrelated) and rules. largely similar to normal Yugioh, but it's a different game
Speed Duel is a game mode for the normal Yugioh game, it uses the regular cards (but a much more contained cardpool), a smaller playing field (3 monsters zones, 3 s/t zones), smaller decks, and special character abilities. I think Konami has abandoned it by now. nowadays they're promoting Genesys, which is another alternative format with it's own cardpool and point-based banlist (it plays closer to modern Yugioh, but with a less bullshit)

Duel Links is a digital game (mobile and PC) that primarily focuses on Speed Duel gameplay, but also added Rush Duel more recently. has a variety of gamemodes you can play, but the gacha is extremely predatory
Master Duel is another digital game (PC, console and mobile) that lets you play the modern card game. it almost exclusively focuses on competitive play, and the gacha is surprisingly user-friendly with every card being accessible for free and little grinding in general
>>
>>284077750
Speed Duels and Rush Duels are different things but both are playable in Duel Links. Speed Duels uses normal cards and there is only one normal summon per turn. The deck size is 20 cards I think they can get up to 30 cards. There are skill cards in Speed Duel. Speed Duels were published in the West but not in Japan and Rush Duel wasn't published outside of Japan.
>>
Are there any specific OCG/TCG rule differences or are the only differences between these two formats the cardpool and the banlist?
>>
I often think about 5D's Turbo Duels when someone mentions Speed Duels. I wish they brought that format into real life.

there are very small differences on specific card rullings, based on how judges determine certain interactions
for example, this guy's second effect that summons from the GY after detatching two materials: on the TCG you can't pick that effect if your GY is empty, even though the detatched materials go to the grave before you choose the effect. why? because a judge said so
>>
>>284078650
Are there any differences regarding the when can and if then rules? Or the chain rules?
>>
>>284079447
I'm not really familiar with the intricacies of rulling, but I believe most of it is the same between OCG and TCG outside of specific judging calls. the nuance in card text tends to stay accurate to the japanese too, as far as I know
>>

addendum: yugipedia has at least this one page showing some rulling differences

No and thinking its a bad thing is silly. Of course the game is going to change over time. YuGiOh even does what Pokemon did and revamped their Gen1 TCG to fit into the modern game by adding new abilities to old cards, look how the God cards were redone. You can still make the game more interesting and play with old cards and original rule sets on your and many card shops do this for fun. I do like YuGiOh for also reprinting older cards too.

Honestly, fuck Konami. What's funny is that they only started mass printing this garbage only after Takahashi died.

Also if people think that only female designs are attrocious then they should see the male ones too.
I guess Konami wants to turn YuGiOh into "modern audience" type of game.

that's complete bullshit, and you're huge prick for trying to use his death as artifice for your agenda. waifushit like Sky Striker, Dragonmaid, Exosisters, Tearlaments and Labrynth were all printed before his death. the Yokai Girl handtraps have existed for a decade, the Charmers have existed for two. DMG was his own creation. the early game was full of "cute girl" cards and you'd be equally buthurt about them had they been printed recently

Since duel monsters are spirits in the anime. Does every new card that's made mean they just create a new life out of thin air? What if a duelist has multiple of the same waifu card in their deck? Are they jealous of themselves?
>>
>>284084963
Don't most of the series after 5D's take place in other universes?
The manga and anime are also different dimensions. The way Duel Spirits are portrayed in the Doma filler arc and the GX anime contradicts the way they are portrayed in the original Yugioh manga. I'm not sure about the GX manga. I've only heard that Chazzs's Duel Spirit there is Light and Darkness Dragon and Jaden's Winged Kuriboh or it was someone else for manga Jaden.

>>

The timeline in GX doesn't make much sense. When was Kagemaru principal if the school was just founded 10 years ago?
He was a very old man already in GX.
How can there be Duel professors already? The game wasn't that old in the original series and it only recently got famous in Japan at the start of the origonal series.

>>
>>284085144
The manga claim about the videotape were stupid. Something about subliminal messages and that's the reason why they were in synchro with the videotape. I went through the Duelist Kingdom portion of the Manga, and Yugi's deck showed 35 individual cards out of 40. There was a polymerization of two cards, but I don't know if the 'fused' result is its own actual card that needs to be accounted for.

Also, as best as I can figure, the 40-card rule is a maximum. I don't think anything is said about it being a minimum. Not that you generally would try to play less than 40 since you automatically lose once your deck runs out of cards during the game.

Older waifu cards are superior because they still had influence from kazuki takahashis sharper, angular artstyle. They had a cool edge to them that the newer designs lack because they just take after the dominant 2010s round and soft style. BMG, Silent Magician, Burst Lady and the like are all great and memorable designs, newer waifus blend in with generic fantasy/scifi girls.

They have a Spider-Man collaboration one day and a Final Fantasy collaboration the next. Same as Fortnite, bouncing from collab to collab to stay relevant via nostalgiafagging. At least Yu-Gi-Oh cards are all in anime art style- even if that style shifted to ugu kawaii girls in recent years it's not like they're mixing fucking Batman and Simpsons designs in the same card game.

Magic stopped having a concise and coherent worldbuilding in favor of quick cash grabs.
Look at: >>284086062
As an example. But it's also Spongebob, Hatsune Miku, Final fantasy, Spiderman, The Walking dead, Star Trek, Marvel, Ghostbusters, Monty Python, Clue (the board game Clue), and that's not even half of it.
And they stopped pretending it's just a few cards here and there, and it's now just simply full legal sets to be played in standard. Without to mention that blatant commander bait cards.

They stopped caring for its players and have been focusing on the ones that are spending the most: investors. People who buy cases and cases of magic products without opening them. To WotC, this is the best cash cow possible, since it's selling sealed products, and not flooding the secondary market driving the prices of the individual cards down.

From google AI:
The Marriage Contract/Dowry (Ketubah): The cards Spell Chronicle and its related effects are seen as representing the reading of the ketubah, the legal and financial marriage contract that outlines the husband's obligations to his wife.

Witnesses: Syrus Truedale and Ojama Yellow are noted as the two unrelated witnesses, a requirement in Jewish law for the marriage to be valid.

Placing of the Veil (Badeken): The card Rainbow Veil is interpreted as symbolizing the badeken ceremony, where the groom covers the bride's face with a veil before the main ceremony.

Circling the Groom: Yubel's attack animations involving thorns encircling Jaden are linked to the tradition of the bride circling the groom under the chuppah (wedding canopy).

Drinking from the Cup of Life: The effect of the Air Hummingbird card is likened to the shared cup of wine over which the seven blessings (Sheva Brachot) are recited at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The Seven Blessings: The seven effects of the Rainbow Neos card are seen as representing the Sheva Brachot.
Breaking of the Glass: The cracking of the Duel Academia's windows during the duel is considered a parallel to the breaking of a glass at the ceremony's end, which traditionally serves as a reminder of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and that joy must be tempered.

Private Time (Yichud): The culmination of the duel with Jaden and Yubel becoming united forever through the Super Fusion card and retreating alone is seen as the yichud ceremony, where the couple spends their first moments of private time together after the wedding.

That combined with the Jaden's name being Judai makes a bit of sense but I think it is a coincidence.

There is a stupid theory that Exodia is the jewish God Yahweh. It is much more likely that Exodia is based on Osiris or Seth and that maybe have been Kaz's intention. But there is an ironic connection betweem Seth and the jewish God because some egyptians interpreted the jewish God as being Seth. I don't think that the people who make the Exodia/Yahweh theory or Kaz even know about this.

Exodia could be just its own thing. A God that our world doesn't know but who existed in the Yugioh universe. I've heard the theory that Obelisk is supposed to be Seth which makes sense. Seto Kaiba was menat as a one-off villain but his name somehow fitted into the egyptian setting because of Set(h). There were also pharaohs called Seti.
Seth is the enemy or rival of Osiris. They are both brothers. Priest Seto is the cousin of Atem, cousins are also often called brothers in many other languages.
Atem is assoiated with Osiris, Seto could be associated with Seth and there was some kind of Slifer-Obelisk rivalry going on with Kaiba and Yugi. I don't know if it is true but I've heared the theory that priest Seto was supposed to lead a rebellion against Atem with the help of Obelisk in the original manga but that plot point got abondened because of Kaz's health and Shomen Jump wanting to end it soon. This would also fit with this theme.

I never was into Magic. I think I got a booster pack from a card game magazine I used to buy. The land cards were confusing because nothing was written on them. I think i got a full Duel Masters Structure Deck from the same magazine. If it wasn't from it then I don't know how I got it, I don't remember buying Duel Masters card. It was a fire dark type of Structure Deck with the boss monster being both types.
I used to love reading card game magazines and buying Yugioh cards.

It's a win-more card. If the effect goes through you are definitely going to win the game but if you're in a position where the effect could go through you were probably going to win anyway. In any other situation it's a dead card in your hand so your deck is worse for including it.

It sounds like it is nowdays mostly copy and paste.

I dunno, like I said I only learned there was an archetype for ol' barrel dragon today. I do know that Gatling's effect requires you to destroy as many monsters as you can, so it'll target your monsters too (or itself) if you can't destroy anything on your opponent's side of the field.

This is why I could never get into the game. It sucks to not be able to use my own judgement and freely build a deck I like since the strong cards are always matching parts to a single whole and are largely incompatible with one another.
>>
>>284097070
it's not so hard to build modern decks, since it's all archetype based these days. as long as you have a basic understanding of how a deck is structured, you can tell which cards are meant to be your starters/extenders that you play at 3 copies; which cards are in the deck just so you can search so you play at 1 copy; etc. and depending on the deck it's easy to tell which generic (non-archetypal) cards you might wanna play, like a deck that clearly focuses on rank-4 monsters will likely want to play some of the best generic rank-4s. also, nowadays most decks are 33-50% non-engine cards (good cards that don't specifically benefit your strategy, but are strong interactions against the opponent) which are common place regardless of the deck you're building
"expert" deckbuilding mostly comes from optimizing all those aspects, understanding the meta when it comes to non-engine, and sometimes finding engines that work well together

early cards were Takahashi basically trying to have the characters play literally legally distinct MtG, the designs weren't because that was his vision, it's how he interpreted western monster design that was popular here and trying to replicate, but no duplicate it, especially in the first duel

There's a card called Yu-Jo Friendship that features Yugi and Joey.
Interesting card too because it requires a handshake with your opponent.
They can decline unless you also have the Unity card in your hand in which case they are forced to shake your hand.
Could be an interesting meta really.

>rub your balls thoroughly before aforementioned handshake
>opponent refuses

The Toei anime seems to have also been for shilling the cards somehow although it predates the Bandai Game.
There were only two card games in the manga before Duelist Kingdom, both with Kaiba or three if you count the duel with Pegasus as pre-Duelist Kingdom.
Toei created some more duels an invented some new characters for them and evem new cards most of these characters where connected to Kaiba except for the three sisters who played the Hecate cards. Kaiba rescued Yugi from the duel with them because he wanted to be the one who defeats Yugi. This created a plothole because Kaiba revealed there that he also obtained a Blue-Eyes which was only revealed during Death-T in the manga.

IIRC Yu-Jo Friendship was banned for a while because of hygiene issues until the judges determined that you can wave or "accept the idea of a handshake" in lieu of an actual handshake to remedy this, then it was unbanned.

But I'm imagining someone dueling Kaiba who has three copies of Yu-Jo Friendship and Unity in his deck and it exists to stall and use YJF as many times as possible to summon Kaiba's most hated rivals as many times and force him to handshake, over and over and over, until he forfeits in rage.

What is the official tournament ruling if your opponent kills themselves mid match?
>>
>>284097717
I mean, you need to understand modern deckbuilding theory, which is extremely different to the way people built decks in the past and you can see this in how people approach more historic formats more modern than Goat today. Many of the top decks of old, just don't cut it with modern theory anymore. Modern deckbuilding theory was only really developed around the Zoodiac era (only 8 years ago), because Zoodiac was one of the first decks that truly embraced the way people play yugioh today (cramming as many ways as possible to get to the Rat into the deck)

Even standard (the premier tournament format) isn't being played most of the time at stores. Its all casual commander nowadays and for some fucking reason the staple cards are still priced high despite the lack of tournament scene. They're trying really hard to make commander a tournament format, but more often than not it just ends in a disaster because its a free-for-all multiplayer format. The Millennium Pendant/Puzzle grants a wish to whoever completes it. For Yugi, this was "to have friends". It also allows the wielder to manipulate fate to Destiny Draw. The soul of Pharaoh Atem is sealed inside it.

The Millennium Eye lets you read other people's minds.

The Millennium Ring guides you to whatever you seek, like a compass. The soul of Yami Bakura is sealed within it, which is actually the soul of Zorc Necrophades fused with the soul of Thief King Bakura. Zorc is the creator and master of the Shadow Realm, so banishing his soul there won't stick for long.

The Millennium Rod lets you brainwash other people, including control them remotely.

The Millennium Scales lets you measure the heart of other people to determine if they're good or evil. It also lets you fuse summoned Duel Monster spirits, reproduced as the Polymerization card.

The Millennium Key lets you enter a person's mind to explore their memories, and manipulate it to your will.

The Millennium Tauk/Necklace lets you see the future.

All Millennium Items, being made from molten gold mixed with the blood and bones of the slaughtered villagers of Kul Elna, are cursed with Zorc's shadow magic and can easily warp their wielders' minds, and enables them to start Shadow Games at will, as well as conditionally manipulate souls. Yami Yugi swore to not do any more Shadow Games after Mind Crushing Kaiba to remove his most evil aspects, and Atem's goal is to defeat Zorc for good to end the threat of the Shadow Games forever.

There's also the Pyramid of Light and the Quantum Cube, pseudo-Millennium Items made after the original set. The Pyramid of Light was originally designed to grant Priest Seto power on part with Pharaoh Atem, and so can oppose the Egyptian Gods. The soul of the evil sorcerer Anubis is sealed within it. The Quantum Cube can use shadow magic to transport people to alternate dimensions, and can transform into a Duel Disk/DiaDhank. I have no idea how these two were made.

In Summoned Skull's original manga artwork, this monster is nearly identical to the artwork of the Magic: the Gathering card "Lord of the Pit". "Summoned Skull" was Level 7 in the manga, much like Lord of the Pit's Converted Mana Cost of 7.
