You're coming at it from a very western (individualistic) perspective. It's hard to make assumptions like that since people in different cultures view things deferentially. Like try to rationalize victims of crimes that made the news publicly apologizing for being victims being a thing in nipland. The same principle could be at play here. You're not supposed to shine light on problems that don't concern most people since that would break the illusion that everything is perfect. MC very much acted in line with that. She protected her friend and the entire schools charade at her own expense like a good bugman is supposed to. But like I said I could be wrong.
