What's the difference between CGDCT, moe, slice of life and iyashikei?
Half of those are retarded /a/ terms for the same thing
Mio will die without finding a husband
>>284082371Is like the difference between isekai and native isekai.
>>284082390Crayon Shin-chan and Madoka Magica? Same thing.
>>284082614>>>>native isekai
>>284082371CGDCT is a catch all term for shows with an all girl cast doing low-stake activity, usually some sort of hobby.Slice of life typically is a show that lacks a major plot and just shows off the lives of the cast. There may be a long overarching plot but character growth will be slow and gradual. I would generally consider most comedies to not be SoL, but a show like Nichijou sort of straddles the line. A non CGDCT SoL would be Usagi Drop.Iyashikei are shows that illicits a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Usually slower and more contemplative, can take on a more nostalgic or melancholy vibe. Non CGDCT iyashikei would be Mushi-shi or Moomin.Moe is too vague for me to even consider it a useful classification, I'd say it's primarily an art style focusing on cute characters. If you want to define shows as "moe" it's even more broad that CGDCT.There's major overlap with the bulk of each label residing in a more broad label. K-On is iyashikei, Nichijou is slice of life but not an iyashikei, Sora Yori is a CGDCT but not a slice of life. All use moe character design.
>>284082371CGDCT is those hobby shows.
>>284082614>There is one native isekai and it is picrel>Frieren etc are definitely NOT native isekai
>Slice of LifeGenre where nothing dramatic really happens and there's generally no overarching plot driving the narrative, it's a look into a bunch of characters' everyday lives>CGDCTSubgenre of SoL focused on cute girls>moeHistorically in the 90s it meant the attraction to vulnerable, youthful characters, which was a synthesis of paternal instincts and sexual attraction. In the 2000s nobody could agree what moe meant anymore because people were attracted to different things and everybody argued whether kuuderes were more moe than tsunderes or if meganekko were more moe than nadeshiko so instead moe became a nebulous word to describe romantic feelings for anime girls, or 2D traits like twintails or skinfangs or whatever that elicit reactions from the audience. Moe isn't a genre or a type of anime, nor is it an artstyle, though "moe anime" generally refers to anime made with the intention of evoking feelings of moe from the audience, usually through an all-female cast, or a male MC surrounded by an all-female cast where as much popular "moe traits" are given to each of the girls who fit a bunch of personality and visual archetypes. You could argue all CGDCT anime are moe anime, or even all harem anime are moe anime, or just slapstick comedy anime with a focus on female characters are moe anime. >IyashikeiHealing anime, subgenre of SoL. focused on creating a warmer, cozy atmosphere. Iyashikei anime often have a significant focus on their environments/settings or a focus on the more mundane things that the audience genuinely want from life but don't have. Iyashikei anime tends to be more down-to-earth and "personal" with its character interactions and theming.
>>284083431It's also worth noting in the very early days, all of the first characters that were called moe mostly came from mecha and shonen; Cute girl-centric SoL didn't really take off until To Heart's anime adaption in 1999
>>284083431>>284083506Another side note though it's probably unrelated to contemporary moe, but female mecha/sci-fi otaku in the 70s-80s sometimes used to call emotional or high energy scenes stuff like Ideon and Getter "moe", sometimes calling the hotblooded male characters "moe" too.
>>284083712no they were referred to as GAR
>>284083904Almost fell for it
>>284084166it's true
>>284084090western shit
>>284083431What was the term for the late at night SoL that are anime for sleeping?
>>284082465But we are happily married with children.
>>284084090What is this garbage? That last option is such utter bullshit
>>284083431>Genre where nothing dramatic really happensNot even kidding, stopped reading right there, you are already wrong, not reading the rest.
>>284083431>Genre where nothing dramatic really happensNot true>Subgenre of SoL focused on cute girlsI wouldn't call it a subgenre but there's significant overlap. I consider GuP CGDCT but it falls more into the sports genre than slice of life. The focus isn't just on cute girls but also on them doing something.
>>284083712That's moeru, you idiot.
>>284083712>>284086974yeah, different kanji
>>284084590honorary japanese
>>284082371CGDCT>subgenre of slice of life where all/most of the main cast are cute girls. was originally a meme, but sites like MAL literally made it a tag.Moe>not a genre at all but the Japanese word 萌え, which is used by Otaku to refer to the love someone feels for a character. became conflated with cute girls and shows with cute girls.Slice of Life>self explanatoryIyashikei>a subgenre of Slice of Life. the iyashi (癒し) part of iyashikei means 'healing', and the shows in this genre are made with the focus on comforting and soothing the soul with relaxing images and stories.
>>284083712>>284087226yeah 萌え vs 燃えsometimes you see it used as a pun
"Slow life" is worst and most autistic genre. It's so bleak to watch because the consumer is someone who's life is full of despair and its entire purpose is escapism to treat it.My favourite one is the slime witch.
Moe is whatever the fuck I want it to be
>>284085682>>284086382You can literally count the amount of SoL where terrible, dramatic things happen on one hand and most of these were primarily old adaptions of european kid's stories in the 70s-80s.>>284086974Did I imply otherwise?Female otaku shortened moeru to "moe"; or at least, there's three-ish instances of "moe" (rather than "moeru") being used to refer to mecha/sci-fi anime in the 1980s before the mid-80s. Men didn't shorten moeru to moe.
