I've seen the anime and there wasn't anything interesting besides the action. I'm sure the manga is the same. There is no great theme in this series besides that friends are important and other small basic themes that have been done a lot. There are a lot of manga issues so it would take a while to read and that's time that could be spent reading a manga that has a more complex story. I recommend made in abyss. The manga has some good details the anime is lacking.
