not at all, the VN is actually very well regarded, a proper kamige. it is true that the adaptation is among the better ones, but that's only because they are usually terrible. but the fact is that in cutting down the story, it loses a lot of emotional impact, and as an anime, ends up coming short against others of its era.

People who self-insert as Okabe and Kurisu and ship them will find it absolutely amazing.

I really enjoyed the ride of the VN, but looking back, it has a few issues of plot holes and plot convenience. And 2 minutes in, if you're not naive, you see that Kurisu will be the main heroine and will have heavy author bias, so it's hard to cheer for the ship that would 100% happen anyway (even though I like the character and have no problems with her).

Steinsgate is so bad that it made me hate the characters for their stupidity.
At some point I had no more pity but just wanted them to die.
The moment when I stoped caring was:

And then I stopped caring.
