ppl often refer to araragi as being an unreliable narrator are there any actual times when he does this?
>>

The idea that his sisters want to sleep with him is entirely in his head.
>>
He's unreliable by omitting certain things he considers unimportant. Like how he assumes nobody in school really knows about him due to him skipping class so often when it actually has the opposite effect of making him stand out.
But every natrator is unreliable like that because we see things from their biased POV.

Pretty much all of owarimonogatari and everything involving Ougi. Ougi punishes liars, Araragi is indeed lying to the viewers about how he conveniently "forgot" everything.

This is mostly it. Araragi is quite truthful outside of what he says about himself (like denying he is a lolicon). He'd more be a poor narrator than unreliable since he is prone to inserting his thoughts and obsessions in between each event he describes. This is part of why Yotsugi is so good as a narrator. She is straight forward in describing everything without talking about her emotions too much. It is actually kind of weird since it is pretty much canon that Yotsugi is crazy but just can't express it. Maybe the narration is supposed to sound like how she'd say it to you though.

It was all because Sodachi needed to be added in after the fact. It is pretty funny how Nisio turns the process into the story.

Pretty much, yeah. For the most part he's unreliable in the way the narrator in Of Mice and Men is unreliable for not outright stating that Lennie is a retard.

Hanekawa's cows are in truth as seen is Kizu, Ramuragi is repressing his sexuality with her afterward.

A good example is that scene you posted. In the novel version, Araragi spends the entire thing insisting that Nadeko isn't trying to seduce him.

I don't think he ever outright lies about the actual events playing out, but his descriptions of what's going on are always filtered through his personal biases.

Nobody helped me understand the Tooe bath scene in Zoku better you bastards. Last thread died as I posted my room temperature IQ questions.

She washes that hard to reach part of his back for him. But she ends up scratching a map to Ougi into his skin. He has Yotsugi observe it and they follow the directions.

I mean I realize how the plot progressed but I feel like a lot of the meaning from what they actually talked about went over my head. let me find my questions.

1) Why does she keep calling Suruga an idiot. I mean even if she is an idiot I can't understand if she calls her that based on something obvious we should realize about her character. I can definitely connect it to Hana and how she can be very unstable about how she defines herself but that's it.
2) They mention Hanekawa for a bit and if Koyomi really understands her or thinks he knows her. I don't know if Hanekawa was mentioned on purpose or if it's just an example meant to be applied to all aspects of his relationships to get across the importance of understanding vs knowing. I guess keeping your mind open to change and a readiness to assess a situation without preconceived notions of knowledge keeps you from being stagnant?
3) Koyomi mentions that Izuko's description of Tooe is completely different from what he's witnessing. She mentions that she chilled out after getting a husband too, yet it's still a mystery what kind of a person she was. She says she raised Suruga on proverbs like "毒にも薬にもならない" but maybe she said that to hear it herself. That she viewed herself as a weak crybaby devil and the only path she saw was getting rid of that side of her. She says that there are a lot of reasons that she shouldn't be one to teach things and if there is one thing to tell Suruga it would be "Don't end up like me". We don't really know how she ended up other than dead really, so I'm a bit confused.

4) Then there are the obvious connections to Koyomi I guess. She is familiar with him through the monkey's arm (Seishiro's whole energy drain and Shinobu's consumption). The question of why she brought the arm into Suruga's life can parallel the question of Ougi's existence in Koyomi's life if it's neither mean to help or harass you but simply mirror you so you can view yourself from a different angle. Apparently what Koyomi did with creating Ougi is something the Gaen family has been doing for generations also, facing your other self.
I don't understand what the importance of killing the Rainy Devil is over protecting Ougi. Maybe just a more mature way to handle changing? It would help to know a bit more of her backround because we can only assume that the chilling out she did after marriage was very abrupt or painful.

Was it just an after the fact thing though? He's lying in the very start of owari about forgetting about that class event that made him lose faith in humanity, hence Ougi's catch phrase being "I don't know anything, you know everything." I think it owari was written with the intention of Araragi lying to the viewer throughout from the start.

Sodachi is a nice character and all. But I still feel like her being the explanation for why he went fully into isolation mode doesn't feel that impactful.

I feel like Koyomi's arc doesn't fully need an explanation about the initial existential issues and it can work on its own with just the progress we see. Sodachi's existence is a nice bonus that perfectly encapsulates his failures to act upon a selfish justice with the expected overcorrection effect we witness through the series. These types of issues have to stride the line between absolutely traumatic and impactful enough that we can see the character push it out of their mind while simultaneously affecting them. It's always the case with existential issues that you cannot avoid sounding like a bitch if you attempt to explain them to another and that's part inherent to their nature. I still greatly prefer it versus something forced to feel justifiably impactful like say, a person dying due to your actions.
