My main complaint is the music is Gintama music at home. Not memorable at all. They clearly really badly want to use the main show's music but they can't. Otherwise it's just more episodic antics with Gintama characters.

At least making him a student means things are much more normal and he can be beaten up by Otae or other students as well as be beaten by Hijikata and Sogo. Hijikata needs to be able to be violent towards Kondo so he needs to be of the same status so student since Kondo being a teacher doesn't work there.MADAO I'm tossed up on since he could work as both a student or as the grounds-keeper/janitor even though he'd be employed he'd still be MADAO and regularly made fun of or treated poorly.Katsura being a student fits with his childish personality and lets him interact with the main cast far more. Takasugi is the only one I don't think it really works for aside from him being a delinquent in his episode but then he's heavily under-utilized as being a gag character at the end who barely bothers to wake up in the morning.

The show seems more like taking a volume, selectively picking through jokes and then adapting that into an episode than a full adaptation. There's only a few chapters ever adapted and you can see how much gets cut out even though the jokes that do get adapted are done faithfully.
