Day 500 of trying to finish tybw after season 1. This is unbearable
>>284121605>The squad numbers are not power levelsI think they low key were in the beginning.11 & 12 lost to ichigo and uryuu before ichigo even learned bankai. 13 was struggling with illness and often less usefull than his vice-captain in flashbacks. 10 was the dedicated jobber who was coasting off his potential. 3 was able to disable 6 & 11 instantanously for a gag. 4 was able to scare other captains (though none with a lower number) with nothing but a smile. 6 was the first or maybe second captain we learned of and generally middle of the road. yoruichi was former 2 and thus stronger than many of the current captain roster.I think 11 solo-ing 7 & 9 was the first major upset before the '5 is actually superman in disguise' reveal. but yeah Kubo just changed his mind regarding power levels over time and did whatever he felt was funny or would diss the audience.

Bleach is such an incredibly under discussed anime. There are other "big" anime that get so much coverage like one piece, bnha, demon slayer or Naruto. Bleach is like the forgotten one but it really mogs the fuck out of everything, even berserk. What a wild ride.

Something of middle path between Byakuya and Omaeda. His being strong enough to one-shot Chad and principled enough to go against the Central authority's judgement regarding Rukia's execution defies expectations for his character archetype.

Kyouraku's finess in manipulating them into doing his bidding, is more a show of class than something he was chosen for. Central 46 is probably thinking more about empowering the the Gotei to best of their ability rather than thinking all that much about the balance of power in the future, given that YHWH might realistically deny them any future. Kyouraku could have done everything he choose to do without underwriting from the Central 46 under the banner of necessity from the moment they confirmed him as captain of squad 1 and the head of the 13 squads, but he chose to go through official channels anyway. I honestly think they should have provisionally made him head captain rather than bump him up immediately, though that is somewhat of a moot point given that he had a huge glow up after his appointment. As for alternatives there aren't any. Ukitake could feasably be a rallying point for his fellow Shinigami, Shinji could easily be a rallying point for the Vizard captains, as could be Mayuri by virtue of the safety his lab grants but they'd all face significant challenges in their leadership. Byakuya and Unohana would be sound choices on paper as well, though I imagine the Central 46 of the time didn't have a perfect grasp of Unohana's strength and appetite for battle nor did they have a feel for Byakuya's strength after he completed his training with the royal guard or even a clear timeline on his recovery after the battle with As Nodt.
