Do you think anime has ever reached or will ever reach the sophistication of prestige television or film? Discuss.

Anime created strike witches which is the greatest piece of media ever created. Culture peaked with it and it's downhill from there.

IDK about prestige but animation is as valid a medium for storytelling as cinema, in fact, one could say it even possesses a superior plasticity when it comes to achieving a style or artistic vision due to the fact that it´s not limited by the constraints of reality.

But you know, during the past decades those limits have blurred. We now live in an age of hybrid media on which hyper realism is but a choice. Ships, black holes, public property destruction, cars, armies, crowds, trees, storms... all of it is CGI made with the intent of looking realistic and blending with live action footage but just because it looks like that it doesn´t mean it´s not animation.

So, basically, it all comes down to having better stories, better cinematography, better control over how to manipulate the audience into feeling something. That kind of stuff. That´s not something that´s inherent to a medium but rather something that varies from piece to piece singularly.

No, I don't think any anime has given me the same feeling as watching a good live action movie. But that's okay because I don't need everything to be the same thing and anime has its own unique things that make it worth watching (and manga for reading).

>uh yeah these are so overated dude heres an obscure ova from the 80s with no plot and 30 seconds of good animation its better becuase you havent seen it

Have you seen television and films lately? Even the worst isekai you can think of tops.

Eva is unironically the greatest piece of modern art ever created, anywhere in the world.

t.has read the whole of the western canon inc. e.g, Shakespeare, Milton, Dante etc..

Television is a worthless medium. There still isn't a single anime this decade on par with Bi Gan's Resurrection and Koberidze's Dry Leaf and this is the worst decade for cinema ever.

>prestige television
lol, lmao

Lain is the only one that comes close here

Perfect Blue is your typical 90s thriller but anime

GiTS and EVA are very typical mass appeal sci fi media not much different from the matrix or planet of the apes in tone or substance

I'm eternally disappointed Boogiepop Phantom is never considered amongst this canon by many others

These aren't really sophisticated though. They're cartoons that are fun to watch
>>
>>284124897
ALL OF THESE ARE BAD. WHO WOULD YOU BE WITHOUT ANIME? ASK YOURSELF THAT.
>>
>>284124897
Anime surpassed it a long time ago, sadly most people won't admit it because they're too busy circlejerking about hollywood or whatever stuff normalfags care about.

What is the anime equivalent of the Sopranos?
