Literally all it takes to write a believable smart character is to have them come up with things that would take a normal person (such as the author themself) 5 hours in 5 minutes. Yet so many anime and manga writers go overboard.

The problem is that a character's intelligence is limited by how much the writer is capable of understanding
If a smart character demonstrates their intelligence with plans that wouldn't work if they didn't get extremely lucky/predict something would happen that they have no reasonable way of knowing would happen, then that's because that's the limit of the writer's ability
