It's because DQ The Adventure of Dai was super popular and was heavily based on DQ3.Sadly, the SteroidBulk Z style basically became the ONLY way Toriyama could draw in the 90s, so he violently rejected that style and went to the weird chibi, rounded style he was using in the 2000s.

It's not just the fact that it's uncropped and in original 4:3. Every other torrent besides Seed of Might's is just official Toei/Funimation rereleases of the series which use overly aggressive anti-grain filters. "Why do we want grain"? Because the filters in the official releases SMEAR and BLUR the linework to absolute hell. Plus there's the color restoration where the SoM team went through every individual shot and adjusted the colors to how they would have originally been drawn/first broadcast - the official releases use colors that have degraded over time with no adjustment, or apply bizarre oversaturated or green filters over the scenes. There's some great comparison shots you can look up online. Once you notice how much better it is than the lower file size alternatives then unfortunately it becomes really difficult to go back.
