You could do without a macro but why make your life harder, just go straight for it. And the light can be any kind of light, a flash, a ring light, leds for product photography, or even the sun. That's all you need.

I've returned several books when I compared them to the Japanese ebook for how ridiculous they made some characters lines, bad translation, and awful proofreading checks. There are advantages and disadvantages. Even ignoring the translation part, the fact some things made it through proofreading and editors just shows you how shoddy management is for those companies. Your level will go up as you read more but if you want fast gains it only take 3 months intense studying (2 lessons a week) and 6 months casual (one lesson a week) depending on book using.
