I just finished Blame! and I don't think I'll ever read a manga as aesthetic as this again.
If you like aesthetics you should check out Tower Dungeon! It's Nihei's latest manga.
>>284304999I would sex up Nihei out of gratitude for his countless kino works
all these "anon reads his first non-jump manga" threads are getting boring
>>284305226>nooo dont talk about anime or manga noooBro?
>>284305226Completely disagree.
>>284305226Not as boring as the coomer threads

>>284304999Glad you liked itFavorite shots?
>>284304999Checked and based trips, is the only manga which Im collecting its master editions. I do feel their volume covers are basic bitch tier compared to the actual content. Sad, covers like those from Tokyo Ghoul, Fire punch or Choujin X style would be more appropriate.
>>284305318This was a nice "Oh no, she's hot!" spongebob moment
what is this manga about?it has a good ending? i hate to read mangas just to get shingeki'd at the ending
>>284305358I like the master edition covers, they feel modern, less grungey than the actual manga.
>>284305399
>>284305318That shot of the safeguard in the grass field froze my blood.
>>284305399Its an ending, that you kind of know its going to happen anyway. IT may seem rushed, but is not, because you have to assume you are looking at small important chunks of a reaaally long story. The timeskips are insane, like decades in an elevator, hundreds of years walking on a empty path, etc.
>>284305399The ending is pure poetry, in the best sense, actual kino. Manga is a solid 10/10 from start to finish.
>>284305318
>>284305358There was some controversy around the master edition, Nihei redrew panels in Sidonia style. A lot of the character that comes with the black ink was lost, arguably in favour of readability.

What edition is the best one? I remember I wanted to reread it a couple years back, but I downloaded one that read left-to-right, then downloaded one with fucked up white/light grey colors instead of white/black, then gave up.
Anons this thread stirred up a memory of reading a similar themed one involving a colossal structure setting with a lone male mc but I can't remember it. Was some one-shot. I wish I had more details to search for it, maybe if I don't remember it it wasn't good.

Multiple galaxies would be needed to be consumed to build it, or perhaps they have the technology to harvest matter from infinite parallel universes. Gravity manipulation would be needed to keep the whole thing from collapsing into a supermassive black hole.>>284307353The Mori box was a male during the time Killy talked to him. The girl was the original occupant of the preservation pack, she mentions that other people's data (the guy) was written over hers but she was the original "official" occupant of the pack so her self was restored and stored in the Netsphere by the GA agent.
>>284309703>If it occupies this whole volume, the mass of the city is several times greater than that of the entire galaxy.kek what
>>284309703>perhaps they have the technology to harvest matter from infinite parallel universesThat is suggested by the Toha Heavy Industries arc, and it is pretty clear they can engage in gravity manipulation. Also it is unclear exactly how much of the structure is, structure, and how much is open area. So calculating a mass of the structure would be hard. Of course the amount of gas that fills the open areas is certainly going to contribute a significant amount.
>>284304999I love that there's almost no dialogue and the story is open to interpretation (kinda, for the most part), so reading this feels like meditation

>>284313356Jumped the shark when he humanized the Gauna, the setting itself is spectacular.
>>284313395The running theory is that humanity had mastered gravitational manipulation to the point where they could spread the Sun's gravity across the entirety of the City to sustain 1g regardless of how big it gets. If true, that really is breathtaking technology prior to the Fall, and it really nails home how devastating that Fall was for humanity, now reduced to frightened tribes in the Dark Forest that was once their civilization.

>>284312175Like this?
>>284313405>the setting itself is spectacular.I know it doesn't quite fit in with either Blame! or Sidonia, but I do like the idea that The City being this immortal home of humanity was a follow up to their near extinction in Sidonia to ensure that never ever happened. But as I said, neither the origins show in Noise or the destruction of the solar system in Sidonia really match up with the other.
>>284313637I don't think they are, or ever were, all interconnected. Noise and Blame, certainly, but the others not so much.

I was relatively glad Blam wasn't a dialogue-heavy "story" and instead I literally got Samurai Jack with a gun.In fact I enjoyed the first 20 or so chapters because so much stuff happens in it and I love very short 1-2 chapter stories, I got bored when he kept doing those 20 chapter long stories which felt generic as hell and I did not care for the secondary characters.I was very impressed that the 1st chapter gives me villains that die at the end and it isn't 20 chapters of Killy chasing after that kid.>>284313878I'm pretty sure I accidentally opened one of these because I remember Evangelion Shinji looking dumbass in a city surrounded by giants and lots of dialogue. I'm pretty sure I tried reading Blame a few years ago but accidentally came up a different Japanese comic book. One thing I didn't like about Blam was that Cibo does have a personality as a cheeky skeleton lady(which unfortunately she promptly loses after the company president dies) which makes a comeback as the other dead lady and USB memory thing which tries to hijack Killy only for Killy to off screen drag the USB stick all the way atop the 3000km staircase as punishment.I was instead very glad that Killy wasn't autistic like he was in the movie. He's actually quite a talkative and emotive bastard despite not communicating with a person for hundreds of years at a time.I wish the world design and logic was better with somebody questioning why the hell the administration doesn't give Killy wings and teleportation abilities but then it wouldn't be spaghetti western esque, it wouldn't be like Samurai Jack. The people reviewing it and all the images about it feels like watching the intro to Batman Beyond but waking up with a more sanitized simpler version and only sometimes backstory heavy dialogue that doesn't tell much.Still what you get is pretty good. Biomega was also pretty good and I treat it as a prequel to Blam, but it's also much more generic and action-oriented with a big bad.
>>284316760>Biomega was also pretty good and I treat it as a prequelThere is an actual prequel though in NOiSE
>>284316833Yeah but it's way too short and it only explains who Sanakan's human form was instead of explaining Killy and explaining the hackers and the plague, even when it explains stuff it's still very ambigous and it really puts your head to thinking. Difference between Blam and a detective novel is that with Blam you can't get spoiled even when you do read the story by yourself, whereas a detective novel gets ruined if you watch in the reverse order and already know who the killer is. Before I read Blam I thought Killy was the one to blame for the plague and post apocalyptic state.

>>284305045
>>284319747>probablyThe city was only made with the mass of the solar system wasn't it? So it's not just "probably" more massive, it's millions of times more massive.
>>284323112i think the issue is that there is nowhere near enough mass to build the city with just the solar system. like all of space the solar system is 99.9% reocurring empty space.
>>284323112>>284323885The implication is that the Builders aren't using just the mass of the Sol system for construction purposes, one theory posits that humanity's control over gravity was so complete that each Builder is drawing mass from an adjacent dimension for its labors, and they have been for thousands of years. They literally can make things from nothing, on purpose, as needed.
Any other manga/anime with similar settings? I have read everything by Nihei. The art doesn't need to be as good, i just like the transhuman sci-fi horror aspect. I know the classics like Texhnolyze and Ergo Proxy, I'd even say something like Kemurikusa counts, and also Girl's Last Tour. There's also Kaira, which imo is really really good for a small anthology of short stories and very Blame!-like in atmosphere. There's also the oneshot Jack and the Beanstalk, and the webtoon Chokepoint. I am so deep in the sauce now I need something really obscure. I'll even take a light novel. I even know about Maison and the Man-Eating Apartment. There's also the Marshal King I guess. Another anon already mentioned Yokohama Station.
>>284324191Oh, and there's also the western comic Ion Mud
>>284323885It would depend on the material they used to construct it. It's possible they used a "puffier" alloy that is more voluminous but isn't as massive as let's say concrete. Plus the city itself has tons of gaps and holes. It's not a continuous solid structure.
>>284324098>>284324457Doesn't Cibo get replaced by a version of herself from another dimension/timeline? It seems pretty spelled out the city is reaching into other planes of existence.
>>284324538I honestly don't remember that.
>>284323112>>284323885>the issue is that there is nowhere near enough mass to build the city with just the solar systemyou're missing my point, I'm not questioning that partthere blatantly isn't enough material in the Solar System to make something of that sizewhat I'm questioning is anon's assertion that you would need to disassemble multiple galaxies to make something of that sizethat just seems like it couldn't possibly be true
>>284324760>there blatantly isn't enough material in the Solar System to make something of that sizeI disagree. >what I'm questioning is anon's assertion that you would need to disassemble multiple galaxies to make something of that sizeYeah that was a tarded statement. Not sure what he was thinking of.
>>284324457Even with such tech, the solar system has the density of grains of sand with hundreds of meters between them. It just doesn't add up.The galaxy is much less dense than the solar system still, but it's also incomprehensibly large with hundreds of billions of stars and dark matter and shit. Probably still more massive than the city?

>>284327937It's not just a solid sphere, we've been over this. Also I doubt the city starts right at the edge of the sun.
>>284328392None of the shit you said was in that post. I've only stated getting within an order of magnitude of the megastructures size needs more than one solar system worth of rocks, even if you're building it out of manifold and paper mache
>>284328502It doesn't cover the ENTIRE volume between jupiter and the sun. We don't know where the city begins and we can see there are gigantic empty areas all throughout, one empty area being larger than the diameter of jupiter.
>>284328628dude we're talking orders of magnitude of differencefinding a small exception here and there doesn't even begin to cover the deficiency
>>284328734My impression was that the city is made out of several dyson sphere-like structures poorly connected to one another. >>284325080>>284326494The city would have more mass than the galaxy even with lots of empty space inside. The galaxy is mostly empty space. The solar system is mostly empty space. They call it "space" for a reason. A solid mass, even with lots of empty voids inside, occupying most of the space within Jupiter's orbit would dwarf the rest of the galaxy.Jupiter's orbit IRL is like a gumball machine with a few specks of dust inside. Jupiter's orbit in Blame is like a gumball machine filled with gumballs, there's many millions of times the mass. And it's solid mass, unlike stars which are gaseous. Also there aren't that many empty voids in the megastructure if what we see in the series is representative. The only big void Killy encounters is the Jupiter-sized gap, the rest of the time he goes through one megastructure attached to another in succession. If there was much empty space inside his journey would be more about navigating through it rather than climbing through floors and floors of buildings.

>>284316760>why the hell the administration doesn't give Killy wings and teleportation abilitiesSO the reason why Killy stands out from his peers is that he's off teh grid from even their own system. The only reason he's so effective is because he was given infinite regeneration, the best gun available and basically free reign to accomplish a single goal. if they strapped his ass with wings or a teleporter it would backfire, if the admin kept track on his, it would backfire, if he was connected to anything, it would backfire. He's meant to be a darkhorse Frodo. >>284343846Sure, that is most likely the case. But it is also interesting if the opposite could be true. Considering how magic the blame universe is compared to the more realistic world we saw in that "simulation", perhaps it is the opposite and the blame world is the simulation.
>>284344554>go to the "Real World">Safeguard exists there and immediately murder you if you don't have permission to wake upThere's a lot of evidence against this, and nothing really supporting it. The person Cibo uses to connect in volume 2 just wakes up in the grass, there are no facilities connecting her to the netsphere that is The City, so how was she being sustained and kept alive while she was "connected" to it?And the Safeguard that kills her, is that a real murderbot in the real world? If so it seems we're truly fucked, since it showed up immediately to murder her and cause a localized nuclear blast at BEC.If the blame world was a simulation, and the Netsphere's more natural world the "Real" world, it would need to follow some kind of real world logic, and it simply doesn't.Davinelulinvega at the RiverCibo in the Builder getting scissoredThat fuckhuge whale person thing in the epilogueThe City may be magical in it's technology, but the "realistic" world of the Net lacks any internal consistency, and has no way of connecting into Noise's narrative.

>>284345869The fun part about silicon life to me is they seem to be just living life in the city and thriving. They're fuckers, but they don't seem to have a unified goal like gain control of the netsphere, destroy all humans, etc. Just a bunch of folks with their own goals and a unified desire for things to stay as they are. With that said, Killy was right to shoot first. Better safe than sorry around siliconiggers.
>>284346491Most of them did want to destroy all humans. Technically only ones with the net terminal gene, but the one cibo hacked said they just kill all humans they see instead of checking. Obviously there were a few that didn't but most we saw did do that

Maybe he's something like a proto-Safeguard and that confuses some of the Safeguards he runs into, or maybe he's essentially the same kind of being but has been working for the Authority or something else instead of the Safeguard proper for however many millennia even if his memory's so bad he forgets it most of the time

>>284359524How do you get one? Asking for a friend.
>>284347226>>284345689Not even the anon who posted it, you slobbering retards, but please, keep whining in every direction that you read spoilers on 4chan against your consent.Again, no one needs your permission to do anything, if that anon felt like posting that copypasta, there's no rules against it. You read and partake of all media on this website at your own risk, there are no guardrails, and anyone who thinks that's a problem should probably just go back.
>>284363657>Least mentally ill blame fan
>>284363657It's called common decency. Just because you can be an ass doesn't mean you should be. Also how come you say anyone is allowed to do whatever, but me calling that guy a fag for being a spastic is too much? I should go back? You can't bring a single argument here and only spew your buzzword shit and then you pretend I am the person that `can't handle it` and need to go back? lmao
>>284363800you need to go back because you're the one who's mad.end of discussion. (you) are not the focus of this thread.go file a complaint with the management if you feel so hard done by.
delete that gross image, retard
>>284363800Anon, this manga ended in 2003. I first read it with yellow box translations flipped left-to-right. There is no reason for the rest of us to cater to you, it's not like this is a currently serialized manga.By the way, Sephiroth kills Aeris.
>>284366612>uswho?
>>284363800You must be new right? the spoiler tags exists for something my man.The manga ended loong time ago and when you enter a thread about a long finished series you can always expose to spoilers from one way or another.Take it or leave it.

>>284352131>>284352458went to the Geiger Museum, got hyped seeing this piece (its in the very first room) but the rest is pretty much all alien/penis stuff.
>>284366673honestly, just shut the fuck up.
>>284369460who made this?
>>284369460>Moomin if Tove Jansson kept drawing it as she slowly succumbed to schizophreniaFuck I just made it up but now Iwant to read this so badly
>>284305045Biomega is better than blame, and abara is great too. All by Nihei obviously. Tower dungeon is fantastic too.
>>284369460kek cute
>>284370850Couldn't really get into Biomega. I remember it having Blame's surreal setting with a completely off the walls plotline (in a bad way). Tower Dungeon's been great though. Almost couldn't believe Nihei could write somewhat normal but likeable characters, even if they are a bit more trope-ish. From what I've read, Blame > Tower Dungeon > KoS = Biomega
>>284373312>I remember it having Blame's surreal setting with a completely off the walls plotlineI thought it did it in a good wayThat spread of the bear on the motorcycle lives rent free in my head

People will disagree with me but MiA is on par with blame in term if environment art.

>>284377078>MiAwhat's that?
>>284379762made in abyss
>>284380345made by abyss is made by an obvious pedophile thougheven the interesting setting and anime's amazing ost cannot make the magical realm tolerable in the long run

I hate that I can't talk about this series out loud because I have to explain why it's written "Blame" but pronounced like "Blamm"dude should have spent more time paying attention in english class instead of sketching giger ripoffs in his notebook
>>284305399>what is this manga about?>future>AI robots build structures (buildings, space stations etc.)>humans kind of go extinct>cyborg goes on a quest to try to find a human or DNA of a human because only humans can shut off the AI robots which have been continuesly building and the structure has by now reached the size of our whole solar systemthat's it in a nutshell, it's a wacky adventure trip through the eyes of the protag and because he's literally traversing billions of miles throughout the story you have sudden timeskips like when he walks across a room where the planet Saturn once was in and it takes him like hundreds of years or something.
>>284375316The existence of the second half of the manga really sticks in your nibd and the first half had the best action the author has ever done.
>>284382293It being called Blame is just more evocative. Sure it wasn't the authorial intent and "Blame" doesn't actually have much thematic or narrative relevance to the series, but it stuck for good reason.
>>284383873I just read it like the English word "blame"franky it's a better namealthough in fairness, this is exactly the kind of thing purists point out, where readers of the translated work give undue weight to elements that are mere artifacts of localisation
